{{HUGS}} Dearest darlin’.

Sadly, I had to fly yesterday to come here to the Nation’s Capital.

It is a very cool place to visit but you could not pay me to live here! These inside the beltway folk are nucking futz!!!

I will be home Thursday and will happily contemplate all the Honey-dews in my queue. I might even do a few of them. ;)

Mrs. FD says howdy hi as well! :)

I SO want one of those to make the left lane change when the stupid designers shovel me into an “Exit Only” lane.

Absent a tank, what the heck am I supposed to do?

Any chance I can hire you as a driver in North Texas?

;) :)

Aloha West Texas Rose ((HUGS)) and Doc!

The laws are different from atate to state which makes this quiz nonsensical. some things I know are if you're in Texas amd there are snow flurries, pull off the road as far as possible and watch the locals spin out; if you're on the Bronx River Parkway and it's bumper to bumper 55 mph traffic, the quickest way to stop is get off the parkway and hit a tree. If you're in Hawaii and it's raining so hard it's causing flash flooding just stay home or you'll go with the flow.

On more thing about safe driving in Hawaii......if you're appoaching an intersection and you have the right of way but you see a car inching its way into traffic (but you can't see the driver) yield. There's squirrel behind the wheel.

Good evening, Sand...((HUGS))...you ARE a good driver.

Speaking about driving...what was the outcome of the dealer fixing your truck and its broken part? Tire carrier?

Oops! People keep getting in your way?

Hopefully all minor, or at least without injury. I know you totalled your van.

Aloha again Night Owl! ((HUGS))

I've been following you weather reports and if my memory of Anchorage holds true, you're in for some mountain thermals which can be pretty nasty. We've had them here too and once they blew the roofs off of a goodly portion of Hilo as well a bunch of trees.

Just stay safe and hope the power doesn't go with the wind.

Had a spectacular accident in September 1968 - lucky to be alive after that - about 8 months before I went to 'Nam - I posted a narrative about it on TWS Marines a few months ago. Perhaps I should post it here.

Evenin’ Kathy,...((HUGS))

Just got a call from GM and they offered to fix for 25% of the cost. Mrs. SR accepted. So, before the month is out my truck will have a spare tire holder again.

When I get home I’ll get out flashlights and hurricane lamps. Might ba a good idea to leave my car out of the garage....electric door opener. I need to keep thinking.

Hopefully the power doesn’t go out....rarely does. iPad is charged!

Any flickering and my Mom will have to stay upstairs. If we lose power the stairlift won’t work and I’m not sure she can walk up the stairs.

I haven't been watching it. A Cavalcade of Marxists, FemiNazis, Greens (who are nothing but crypto-Commies), Perverts and Traitors!

Actually, I've been engaged in a constructive activity these last several hours - working on Family History. Made significant progress this evening in my own family, my Wife's family and in my ex-wife's family as well. After many years, the resources on-line are finally starting to click.

Yeah, whatever. I know a driver observer, a race steward, a crew chief and several others who will tell you otherwise. :)

The Hidden Door

September 5, 2012

It wasn’t the first time it happened in sports, and it certainly won’t be the last. But perhaps mentioning it again can help keep us from making a similar shameful error.

A college coach—one noted for his Christian character—resigned in disgrace after it was discovered that he had violated rules clearly spelled out by the National Collegiate Athletic Association. One magazine article concluded: “His integrity was one of the great myths of college football.”

This was certainly an embarrassing time for the coach, but here’s the most sobering part: It can happen to any of us. The temptation to go behind the hidden door of secrecy in our lives and do things that dishonor the Lord haunts us all. Indeed, we are all capable of turning our own integrity into a myth—of turning our testimony for Jesus into a sham. No matter what the temptation, we are all vulnerable.

So, how do we avoid giving in? We acknowledge the universality of temptation (1 Cor. 10:13). We recognize the dangerous results of giving in to sin (James 1:13-15). We keep accountable to fellow believers (Eccl. 4:9-12). And we plead with God for help not to fall (Matt. 26:41). Only God’s grace and power can keep us from falling and pick us up when we do.

The devil is clever, deceiving us all,
He cunningly causes the strongest to fall;
But we his sly methods are sure to discern
By making God’s warnings our daily concern. —D. De Haan
Each sin has its door of entrance; let’s keep that door closed.

Blessed is the man who endures temptation. —James 1:12

Go ahead and post it. Glad you lived to tell it.

Here it is, Kathy and All! This was posted on the TWX Marines website under the title "2nd Lt. John Chase - Quantico, VA - 1968"

Brothers and Sisters, I have a story to tell about this Marine.

Late on a September evening in 1968, I was returning from home in Maryland to my station at USNH Quantico. I was driving southbound down I-95 in my 1970 VW Bug in Virginia approaching the Occoquan River when I apparently fell asleep at the wheel. I drove in this state for about a half-mile across what is now known as the Purple Heart Bridge and woke up immediately behind an 18 wheeler, which I collided with. I bounced off him and careened off to the left, crossing the median just south of the bridge. (There was no barrier in those days between the northbound and southbound lanes.)

I rolled across the northbound lanes until I reached the rightmost lane, where the front end of my car was flattened by a northbound 18 wheeler. He caught me with the rear wheels - if I had been there a split second earlier I would have been a goner. After bouncing off him, I came to rest near the right shoulder, still on the road. Flames began to rise from the ruptured gas tank. I struggled to get out of the car and was ultimately able to loosen the seat belt and open the door.

The impact of the second collision was so great that my pelvis was injured and I had to crawl away from the car. I made it only ten or twelve feet under my own power.

Suddenly, a number of Marines in utilities appeared on the scene. They were apparently returning from a night training exercise. They carried me 20 or 30 yards away from the burning car. Almost immediately the gas tank exploded, shooting flames high into the air. I was able to focus on the Marine who was taking charge and read his name tag - "Chase."

The ambulance came and took me to Quantico, where I was admitted through the ER to the surgical ward on which I normally served as Senior Corpsman. I saw the CO of the Hospital, Capt. Stalter, the next day. He asked me, and I was able to inform him, of the identity of the officer who led my rescue. I assume he received a well earned letter in his jacket at the least. He visited me during my hospitalization and we had a nice conversation.

I have never seen or heard of Lt. Chase in the many years that have intervened. He and his Marines very possibly saved my life. Had I lain in the spot where they found me, I probably would have burned to death. Everything in the car that was not steel was vaporized.

This event was my first experience of the Brotherhood that binds us together. Happy to say, it was not the last.

Semper Fi!

Doc
