EXCLUSIVE: Long-awaited 'Furious' report places blame on ATF, Justice
FoxNews ^ | 9/11/12 | William La Jeunesse

Dozens of senior-level U.S. government officials turned a blind eye to public safety as they pursued an ill-conceived and poorly managed investigation into gun trafficking in Mexico, according to a long-awaited inspector general's report on Operation Fast and Furious.

Portions of the Justice Department IG report, which has not been made public, were obtained exclusively by Fox News Channel.

The report and accompanying accounts cite a failure in leadership and a lack of accountability and oversight up and down the chain of command at the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF), the Justice Department itself and other offices. It says many senior executives knew the U.S. was helping traffic guns to Mexico that killed people but did nothing to stop it.

"We found no evidence in Operation Fast and Furious that the ATF or the (U.S. attorney's office) attempted at any point during the investigation to balance the risks to the public safety against the long-term benefits of identifying trafficking networks and participants," the draft report says.

Fast and Furious was the anti-gunrunning sting that helped send some 2,000 assault weapons to Mexico under the guise of stopping illegal trafficking. The operation ended only after the death of Border Patrol Agent Brian Terry -- two of the weapons associated with the investigation were found at his murder scene.

It just defeats the purpose of the system and makes the process worthless.

We need to simplify and go to the "purple finger" method.

If a 3-0 steel-clad door can “disappear” from evidence, and all record of it, why not an SKS? I think David Copperfield is on retainer at the FBI.

What bounce? It was a contrived bounce!!!!

Yup!

I told “my plan” to a liberal relative

- Vote fraud - lose one (1) finger for each incident - four states (4) fingers

-

Setting up voter fraud:

Lose your life immediately

-

Radical liberals/Progressives do not believe in the US Constitution - in the “Rule of Law” - unless they can use it in their favor to gain an illegal and/or unethical agenda or “ends”

-

She went nuts and said:

“You cannot do that!”

That told me she and/or her husband had been involved in multiple voting fraud in an election or in multiple elections in at least four (4) states.

More likely at least seven (7) states -

Many vote multiple times in each state

In 2000 - college students openly bragged of voting over 100 times

-

The next time Obama puts that “finger” up.....

Most Jews are liberal, THAT is the problem, their religion is liberalism. They dont give a rats behind about Israel. In 2008 I asked my liberal cousin “How can you vote for Obama, he doesn’t care about Israel” his response “Israel is not my problem.” Maybe now he thinks differently after visiting Israel but I haven’t discussed it with him, that is the mentality of many Jews, they dont go there so they dont feel like they have a connection with the country. If they actually visited Israel and see what a beautiful country it is maybe their mentality would change. Orthodox Jews vote Republican, the rest of them vote Democrat

Your correct in that it won’t sway Democrats in the least. But I do believe that a number of independents will take notice, and this is exactly what we need.

Okay. Fine, but who signed off, who authorized the operation?

"You can delegate responsibility; you can not delegate accountability."

You are directly responsible for teaching and training those you manage in the performance of their duties, which makes you directly accountable for their failures. Newell, Voth, and MacAllister could not have run the operations without direct assistance of the management in the DC offices of Justice, the FBI, and ATF. The fault ties directly to Holder.

“You can delegate responsibility; you can not delegate accountability.”

Hussein/Holder have been doing just that for over two years. If nothing erupts by the time of the election, Romney and Boehner will let it slip down the memory hole.

Federal agents can’t wipe the a**es without permission. Their warrants are drafted by Asst. US Atty’s. They then have to submit very detailed operational plans which go all the way to DC, so that they can be analyzed and modified, so as to shield the agency as much as possible.

This is why there are so many ‘Task Forces’ with local law enforcement. Federal agents are very restricted in what they can do. Local law enforcement is not.

So to say that this whole thing was the brainchild of some local supervisors and then ran by those same supervisors is absolutely ridiculous.

Hopefully, one(or more) of those about to be thrown under the bus, was smart enough to keep some emails and has already hired a good attorney to go see Issa and Grassley in the near future.

Well someone dropped the ball.

They are supposed to release bad news on a Friday, preferably very late in the day when no one is paying attention.

Something is wrong here.

>> DHS’s 1.4 BBBillion new rounds would have supplied US forces in Iraq at the height of the fighting for EIGHTEEN YEARS.

That’s because there are many more Citizens in the USA than there were insurgents in Iraq.

Of the 300 documented Mexican citizens that were killed by F&F, I believe the numbers are somewhere around 20% being children under the age of 18. Of that 20% over half were younger than 13.

So yeah, ATF’s pattern of reckless cowboying did kill innocent children.

Can’t tell you about Oklahoma. I didn’t do the investigation. However, there were more children killed by F&F than were killed by the bombers in OKC.

Okay. Fine, but who signed off, who authorized the operation?

A cogent question.

Given that Fast & Furious was a multi-agency caper -- also involving the FBI, the IRS, ICE, the Border Patrol, Homeland Security, among others...and that, while it was purportedly an ATF operation, it was actually run out of the DOJ's U.S. Attorney's office by Dennis Burke...one might wonder how the likes of AIC Newell, Supervisor Voth and Case Agent MacAllister could have arranged (much less authorized and commanded) all this inter-agency cooperation.

The I.G's report just lost all credibility, did it not?

Newt for Attorney General!

Perhaps Allan West or Herman Cain. Because you know if it's a WHITE GUY, the criminals in the DOJ will play the race card.

Maybe one of the scapegoats will rat on the big boys. The Fast and Furious plan DID NOT come from mid level agents.

Melson, the acting ATF Director isn't going to take the fall for Holder. From last year:

" July 6, 2011In a surprise pre-emptive move ahead of the next scheduled hearing, acting ATF Director Kenneth Melson voluntarily comes forward to testify before members of congress on July 4th. He testified that the main target of the investigation was in fact a paid FBI informant. In a stunning breakthrough disclosure, Melson also testified that DOJ lied to congress and intentionally obstructed their investigation. Rep. Issa and Senator Grassley report that the cover up includes ATF, FBI and DEA. Melson denied prior knowledge of Gunwalker, and stated that he moved to replace those execs responsible as soon as he learned of the program. He also wanted to fully disclose the operation to Congress and the public, but was forbidden to do so by DOJ officials. Rep. Issa has now backed away from his previous calls for Melson’s resignation. Reports: Fox News US News and World Report CBS Washington Times. “If his account is accurate, then ATF leadership appears to have been effectively muzzled while the DOJ sent over false denials and buried its head in the sand,” Rep. Darrell Issa, chairman of the Oversight and Government Reform Committee, said in a letter Tuesday to Attorney General Eric Holder. “That approach distorted the truth and obstructed our investigation.” The local Phoenix ABC affiliate reports that 43 guns recovered by DEA during a drug bust last April have been positively linked to Gunwalker. They also report that FBI and DEA were involved in the program. BREAKING NEWS: Another large-scale Gunrunner division operation known as “Operation Castaway” now exposed in Tampa, Fla.: Virginia O’Brien, Special Agent in Charge at the BATFE Tampa Field Division, ran a gun-running investigation that was walking guns to Honduras using the techniques and tactics identical to Fast and Furious, it was reported to these correspondents this evening via private correspondence from a proven credible source.
