School: Sorry About Hammer & Sickle (HS Marching Band Commemorates Communist Revolution)

A Pennsylvania school district has apologized and made significant changes to a high school marching band’s halftime show that commemorated the Russian Revolution with red flags, military-style outfits and giant hammers and sickles.

The New Oxford High School Marching band’s show will no longer be called “St. Petersburg: 1917″ and the performance will no longer include the hammers and sickles, according to a statement from Rebecca Harbaugh, the superintendent for the Conewago Valley School District.

What they are doing in Russia on national holidays is turning out & marching in the pre-1917 uniforms of the Imperial Russian Army, with double-eagle emblems and Orthodox crosses.

What if these kids had turned out in traditional Russian garb with no red stars or hammer & sickles? Sang Russian folk songs & performed peasant dances?

Where they really pushed to display communist symbols at the behest of their ideologically inclined teachers? If so, said teachers need to be fired for child abuse.

Celebrating other cultures is fine if the goal is not brainwashing. Now.....we’ve seen Islamic observances where non-Muslim students were required to adopt Muslim names with male & female students kept segregated. Way different.

According to the article, the revised halftime show will be dedicated to the music of Dmitri Shostakovich. Perhaps they'll play selections from his twelfth cymphony entitled "The Year 1917" and dedicated to the Bolshevik Revolution.
