I am the Resurrection, and the Life;
he that believeth in Me, though he were dead,
yet shall he live. – John 11:25

Heavenly Father,

Thank you, Great God, for the gift of life; for the gift of love; for the gift of our Saviour, Jesus Christ; and for the gift of the Resurrection and Life eternal in heaven with You. May Your mighty Name be praised above all other names because of who You are---the Great I AM. You are the Light of the world and in You there is no darkness at all. Father, please shine forth Your light of understanding upon our lives, upon the leaders of our nation, and upon America. We are thankful that You remember us and bless us; and we extol You, Lord, both now and forevermore. We who fear You place our trust in You, for You are our Help and Shield. We give thanks to You, Lord, for You are good and Your steadfast love endures forever.

Father, we mourn for the American citizens who died in Libya and our military who were killed in Afghanistan last week. We pray for Your comfort and peace to surround their families in this difficult time. We know that You are a Shield for all our military people and we pray that in these days when they hear criticism and discontent verbalized from many sources, that You would strengthen their resolve and grant them tremendous success in bringing about peace. Help them to come home in victory at the appointed time. For every child who awaits the safe return of his father or mother, for every spouse who longs to be reunited with their loved one; we pray for Your grace and protection to sustain them as You place people in their paths to help them.

Father, we sometimes become distracted by the rancor and vitriol of the political climate in this nation. We see our beloved country being turned into an unrecognizable confluence of competing priorities and agendas. We ask You, our Master, to restore that which has been lost: our love for You, our obedience to You, and our desire to make You Lord of this nation. Heal us, Father. Raise up for us prayer warriors who will stand in the gap for our beloved America and for Israel. Knowing that You are the same: yesterday, today, and forever; we are confident that You are able to answer these prayers in mighty and awesome ways. In the powerful Name of Jesus Christ we pray in agreement, Amen.

PRAYERS GOING UP FOR OUR AMERICAN HEROES AND FOR OUR BELOVED NATION!

GEN. GEORGE WASHINGTON
THE PRAYER AT VALLEY FORGE

In the coldest and darkest days of the American Revolution, General George Washington raised his prayers for the survival of his beleaguered Army and of the new Nation. The Lord answered those prayers, upheld his Army through a punishing nadir to everlasting glory and bestowed His manifold benefits upon the new Nation.

In like manner, let our prayers now rise lie a fountain for our Heroes in the American Armed Forces who seek to secure the benefits of Freedom on behalf of a people hungry for them. Father, look on our prayers for them with favor, guide their steps in righteousness and keep them in the shelter of Your Healing Wings. Bless and uphold them in the performance of their Mission. Through Jesus Christ, Your Son, with the Holy Spirit, one God, forever and ever, Amen.

Heavenly Father, Lord of the Nations, unto Your Divine Mercy we commend the souls of these brave men and women who have fallen in the service of our Beloved Nation and in defense of the Freedoms we hold dear. We pray that You gather them in Your loving embrace, that You cause Your countenance to shine upon them, and that You vouchsafe their souls to dwell eternally in Your Divine Presence. Through Jesus Christ Your Son, with the Holy Spirit, one God, forever and ever, Amen.

Quaking Aspens

October 1, 2012

While I was visiting Michigan’s Upper Peninsula, two trees caught my attention. Though the leaves on the surrounding trees were not moving, the leaves of these trees were fluttering with just the slightest hint of a breeze. I pointed them out to my wife, and she told me they were called quaking aspens. I was struck by the visual effect of those shaking leaves. While all the other trees appeared calm and steady, the quaking aspen leaves shook, even with only the faintest breeze.

Sometimes I feel like a quaking aspen. People around me seem to be moving through life without issues or concerns, apparently steady and secure, while even the slightest issue can unsettle my heart. I see others and marvel at their calm and wonder why my own life can so easily be filled with turbulence. Thankfully, the Scriptures remind me that genuine, steadying calm can be found in the presence of God. Paul wrote, “Now may the Lord of peace Himself give you peace always in every way. The Lord be with you all” (2 Thess. 3:16). Not only does God offer peace, He Himself is the Lord of peace.

When we enter the disturbing, unsettling seasons of life, it is good to know that real peace is available in the God of all peace.

Prince of Peace, teach me to find in You the
calming power of Your presence. Strengthen
me today with Your peace, and grant me the
stability I need in this turmoil-filled world. Amen.
Peace is more than the absence of conflict; peace is the presence of God.
