And so begins our annual 7th TexasCowboy Memorial Shoot.
Thank you humble gunner for the graphic.
TexasCowboy (aka COB1) was a true Texas gentleman, great friend, patriot, and a firm believer in the 2nd Amendment. It is truly an honor to continue a tradition he started many years ago, hosting shoots for FRiends around the great state of Texas.
Many FReepers are coming into town on Thursday so that they can have a tourist day on Friday. Those lucky people are going to be made (a good) miserable Thursday evening by enjoying TheMoms Kick Ass Enchiladas.
The only set tourist place is The Lady Lex.
Friday evening we will meet at Captain Bennys, 103 Fulton Beach Road Fulton, TX 78382, at 8:00 p.m., for a delicious seafood dinner. (They do not take credit cards or serve liquor ~ so remember to bring your cash & booze.)
Saturday morning we meet for breakfast at Alice Fayes, 910 North Fulton Beach Road, Fulton, TX 78358, at 8:00 a.m. The shoot is scheduled to start at 10:00 a.m. at, Schwenkes Gun & Pistol Range, 4407 FM 1069 Aransas Pass, TX, 78336. Mr. Schwenke has reserved the 25 yard shooting station for our group to use as home base. The only major rule at this range is do not shoot the livestock. A BBQ lunch will be served at 12:30ish.
Once the shooting is done some of us will be going to the Rockport Seafair, while others will go back to the Pelican Bay cottages for some R&R. Saturday evening will be filled with yummy junk food and margaritas!
According to the forecast, it looks as the weather will be perfect. Lows in the mid-sixtys, highs in the mid-eightys.
Hmmmm...
This one looks interesting. Sleeps 51 folks

The beach was very nice and the water temp was perfect.
Btw...how many people did we have in all at this year’s shoot?
It would help to know while looking for a place for next year. How many cabins did we have in all and how many had to stay elsewhere? I counted 17 at the cabins and 9 staying elsewhere but I may have left out someone.
I think when you divvy it up, its actually a better deal than motel rooms.
Better amenities too.
We seem to get about 25 every year.
Just an off-topic question for you...
Are full autos legal to own/shoot in Texas?
Just asking, don’t want to be nosey.
It looked pretty awesome. Lots of outdoor space too. I can sleep by the pool if the weather is nice and I drink enough margaritas.......lol!
A community place would rock.
I never even used my kitchen other than to make coffee.
Never used the living room at all.
We did use the big communal porch even if it was a bit shallow.
Damn! That place is really nice ~ I’m kinda afraid to ask what the cost is.
Including the two kids, there were 24 people at the shoot this year.
When you get some time, could you post your enchilada recipe?
Class 3 firearms licenses ain’t difficult here.
Bump-stocks are common.
Pinging someone who knows more than me.
Yup and Yup.
I Believe Class III is legal everywhere.
I could be wrong, But I think it’s just a matter of a tax stamp.
Full Auto was legal in Ca when I lived there.
Most of the places I have looked at are pretty pricey, but when you divide the cost per person it is a great bargain.
After staying in the cottages I am kinda hooked ~ beats the crap out of everyone getting a hotel room.
I was impressed with Pelican Bay.
It was a very good value.
Here you go . . .
TheMoms KickAss Enchiladas
Ingredients needed:
Corn tortillas
Hamburger meat (1/4 lb per enchilada)
Cooking oil
Enchilada sauce (Old El Paso is the best)
If you like spicy, get the hot. Otherwise get the medium
Cheddar Cheese, grated
Lettuce, chopped
Tomato, chopped
Eggs
Fry hamburger meat, season with salt, pepper, garlic powder, onion power and cayenne pepper. Drain.
Fry corn tortillas in oil until crisp.
Place tortillas in an oven safe dish (I use glass pie plates), cover with hamburger meat. Pour enchilada sauce over hamburger meat (one enchilada uses about ½ to ¾ can). Cover with cheese.
Cook until cheese is melted at 350 (about 15 minutes).
Here is the secret right before you take the enchiladas out of the oven, fry one egg per enchilada in oil you used for the tortillas . Take enchiladas out of oven, add lettuce and tomato, then place the egg on top.
To start with use one corn tortilla per person that normally is enough.
And we were able to get lots of porch time.
I am becoming a porch monkey.
June would be considered peak season, but if we get a 24 people..it would be about 65.00 a night per person I think. The bathroom situation would probably require shower schedules but that would not be too much of a problem. I think the first place had 4 full baths and 1 half bath. I love the seclusion and space at that red river ranch. Nice outdoor cooking area too. 250 acres to run around on.
The secret is the eggs over easy.
Makes the entire thing meld.
I loved the porches and being able to hang out together outside at Pelican Bay. That kind of set up was perfect.
