Leadership: After the president rushed back to the White House to watch the Weather Channel, pundits said he acted "presidential" as if he'd be judged by the last four days and not the last four years.
Acting presidential is one thing and being presidential quite another. In the aftermath of Superstorm Sandy, President Obama is doing all the right things, such as telling FEMA to do what it's already tasked to do, even as the sequestration he pushed as part of the Budget Control Act threatens to cut $900 million from the agency's budget.
Pledging to cut red tape, signing disaster declarations, releasing emergency funds and saying the administration is with the victims all make for good photo-ops, just like the one showing the president having rushed back to the White House to watch the Navy SEALs get Osama bin Laden, an act made possible by intelligence-gathering and interrogation techniques employed by his predecessor and opposed by candidate Obama.
"The federal government's response has been great," New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie, whose state bore the brunt of Sandy, told NBC News on Tuesday. "I was on the phone at midnight again last night with the president, personally he has expedited the designation of New Jersey as a major disaster area."
Well, almost all the right things. There was no criticism when Obama urged Americans under siege from Sandy to stay inside and keep watch on ready.gov for the latest as the power went out for millions, or when FEMA urged those without power to use social media to stay informed.
The media that give him praise on Sandy are still looking the other way on Benghazi. That was also a time to look presidential and show leadership.

Just more of Obama’s agenda driven leadership...FUBO!
A president has essentially no role to play in hurricane relief. He can show up for a photo-op but otherwise its the mayors and governors who run the show.
Thats the way our system is designed.
Did he “show leadership” or just show up?
It’s really not a big deal when anyone can see there is a major disaster, to speed up the designation as a “major disaster”. I mean, please, is there anyone who could not easily do that much?
Benghazi liar ping
I live on the Jersey Shore. I’m in a few miles from the coast and we lost power for a few hours on Tuesday night but we’re back up and running and my house suffered no damage, Praise God. My step-son and his family live near by and are without power so they’re kind of camping out with us. My wife is a nurses aide at the local hospital and she’s been busy. The local paper here, The Asbury Park Press has been preforming journalistic fellatio on Obama for four years and their coverage of his visit here is sickening. “Obama sends help’’ they’re touting as if the a-hole has come down from the clouds to dispense help. God Almighty I can’t wait till this clown is gotten rid of.
Solyndra, Fast and Furious, Libya, the economy, fuel prices,,, Obama knows nothing. He is busily seeking the facts.
Osama, Hurricane Sandy,, Obama is right there, captain at the helm, taking the credit.
If it fails, he is never to blame, if it works, he wants all the credit. Everyone had worked with, or been on a team with someone like him.
Hmm according to the Stafford Act and a few other statutes, the President gets to sign the disaster declarations, and then he places Federal resources under control of the state.
So Obama’s show here is just like when he dressed up as Lincoln and took a train to Washington.
Benghazi, though, as commander in chief, he actually had authority and responsibility to act.
New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie should retire after his term ,he’ll never win anything again , Jinks is in affect and things go very wrong with storm cleanup ,Obama will dump all blame on him
Good analysis of the head snake in charge...
I used to ride around in helicopters all the time. Nobody ever accused me of “looking presidential”. Why is Barry so special?
It’s a charade.
Troubling thing is, lots of folks are taken in.
I’m with you though. Can’t wait until he’s out. And I think he’s going down big time.
I agree. I think back on Bush, when he visited the 09/11/2001 site. He was grim. His actions were presidential and geared toward encouraging the nation.
Mitt Romney’s statement about Hurricane Sandy the other day lasted about 4.5 minutes. Obama’s lasted about 11 minutes.
Romney encouraged participation in philanthropic outreach, and uplifting everyone.
Obama spent 11 minutes listing all the things he was going to do. After a while he was just repeating himself, and those standing nearby looked somewhat disinterested.
With Obama, it’s all about him.
With Romney, it seemed to be about others.
While Obama was talking, nobody was able to do anything.
While Mitt talked, people were still turning in donations.
I’ve not been a big fan of Romney, but the more I see of him, he’s head and shoulders better than Obama. Mentally, he reveals Obama to be a child. I’d say about a nine year old child. ;^)
Keep praying FRiend and pray hard like I am. There’s every chance this moron could be re-elected.
