If I am recalling correctly how the electoral college works, each state has two groups of electors, one from each party. Only the group of the winning party in that state (eg Republicans in Indiana) convene to cast their vote. Obama only needs 270, and he has 333, as the Republican electors from the states Obama won do not convene to cast votes. So, we’d need to convince 63 ‘rat electors NOT to vote for Obama...I’m sorry but I don’t see that happening.

” - - - According to Article II of the U.S. Constitution AND the 12th Amendment - if 1/3rd of the States do not cast their votes in the Electoral College, then the matter falls onto the House of Representatives to choose the President. - - - “

Thanks. I had forgotten that fact!

There is a greater chance of you winning the Powerball by not buying a ticket than an online poll doing something like this.

I though the electors were bound by the election in November?

I don’t know if it is even possible, but it is being proposed on the petition site, so I thought I would refer it here for comment.

The petition for recount on the same site is up to almost 115,000 and adding more each hour. That is just the people who are willing to put their information out there. http://www.petition2congress.com/8222/petition-recount-on-2012-presidential-election/

There is also another one calling for a new election that isn’t getting much traction. http://www.petition2congress.com/8269/urgent-new-presidential-congressional-election/

You are correct. Also, there’s no reason to believe any of them would listen to senators, who have absolutely no say in what happens with the electoral college, OR with the choosing of the President.

You’d have to either appeal directly to the electors, or to the state legislatures and governors. Not that this would help either, just that talking to democratic senators to ask them to tell democratic electors to not vote for Obama so the republicans can pick their own candidate is silly.

if 1/3rd of the States do not cast their votes in the Electoral College, then the matter falls onto the House of Representatives to choose the President.

Can they pick Sarah Palin?

Not all the states went to Obama. Seen the electoral map?

This is ABSOLUTELY BOGUS - and is AT LEAST the third thread about this since the election ...

Its NOT about 1/3 of the STATES not voting - its about ENOUGH ELECTORAL VOTERS NOT VOTING for their pledged candidates [Obama and Biden], in order for it to go to the House [for PREZ] or the Senate [for VEEP].

Since Obama [and Biden] have 330 electoral votes locked up - AT LEAST 61 of THEIR voters would have to REFUSE to vote in order for NEITHER political ticket to get a majority.

THIS IS THE ONLY WAY IT GOES TO THE HOUSE AND THE SENATE ...

Don't believe me? READ Article II, Section I AND the 12th Amendment of the Constitution ...

Um it doesn’t matter if the GOP electors don’t vote. The rat electors would laugh at this.

Some states like FL allow the popular election to be overturned by the state legislature and new electors slated but that’s not gonna happen.

As a side note to the electoral college, please bear in mind that the only reason that voters are concerned about who is in the Oval Office is because of all the 10th Amendment state powers which corrupt Congresses and corrupt presidents have been wrongly usurping from the states at least since the days of Constitution-ignoring FDR. In other words, Constitution-impaired voters are clueless as to the constitutionally limited powers of Congress and the Oval Office.

In fact, if Congress and the Oval Office actually respected Congress’s Article I, Section 8-limited powers, regulating mainly the postal service (1.8.7), treaties and international and intrastate trade as the Founding States had intended, then voters would probably have to guess who the current president is, citizens relying instead on their states for the social spending programs that they are now foolisly relying on the federal government for.

I would rather see the state electors vote, as did our esteemed former Senator from Illinois had voted :
stating only that they are “ PRESENT “ !

Some Dems in congress tried this sore loser stuff in January 2004 (Barbara Boxer was one) and they just humiliated themselves.

Better idea, get more Americans to come out and vote against the Dem in swing states,. Heck, it worked for Obama twice.

Yes, but our side only gets to vote once (if we’re lucky...). We don’t have rotten borough precincts manufacturing thousands of phony votes in urban areas.

This is completely wrong. The 12th Amendment states:
The President of the Senate shall, in the presence of the Senate and House of Representatives, open all the certificates and the votes shall then be counted;--The person having the greatest number of votes for President, shall be the President, if such number be a majority of the whole number of Electors appointed; and if no person have such majority, then from the persons having the highest numbers not exceeding three on the list of those voted for as President, the House of Representatives shall choose immediately, by ballot, the President, the votes shall be taken by states, the representation from each state having one vote; a quorum for this purpose shall consist of a member or members from two-thirds of the states, and a majority of all the states shall be necessary to a choice.
There is no quorum needed for the votes of the Electoral College. A simple majority of Electors appointed choses the President. The question of a 2/3 of the states quorum only comes into play if there is no majority in the Electoral College and the choice goes to the House of Representatives.
