Just horrific news out of Kansas City this morning.

According to multiple reports, Chiefs linebacker Jovan Belcher shot and killed his girlfriend, and then drove to the team’s facility and killed himself.

The team confirmed the incident in a statement.

“We can confirm that there was an incident at Arrowhead earlier this morning. We are cooperating with authorities in their investigation.”

The 25-year-old Belcher, who started 10 games this season, reportedly fired the first gunshots around 8 a.m., and then drove to the facility a short time later. Making matters worse, Belcher and his girlfriend had a baby less than three months ago.

Several Chiefs coaches confronted Belcher, urging him not to take his own life, police say.

Police: #Chiefs player, 25, was met by coaches in the parking lot of the practice facility and then took his own life.

Head coach Romeo Crennel and general manager Scott Pioli supposedly witnessed the suicide.

There was some speculation that team officials are pushing for the NFL to postpone Sunday’s game between the Chiefs and Panthers at Arrowhead Stadium.

The league, unfortunately, isn’t listening.

Do not overlook that the murderer has a 3 month old baby that is now an orphan and that he committed suicide in front of 2 people who knew him well.

Such a horrible tragedy for their child. I can’t imagine what type of trauma his coaches must be going through. To see someone you know commit suicide right in front of you has to be one of those life events that never ever fully leaves you.

I meant it with no irony or sarcasm, but quite literally.

I’ll go along with banning football if we could ban soccer first.
If soccer were banned I would then ask for a do-over like libs do & keep football.

If I was a cruel, rude, kind of guy I'd respond to your statement by saying "I've *worked* for a neuropathologist (which is true,BTW),do you even know what a neuropathologist *is*?"

But I won't say it because I'm neither of those things. What I *will* say is that I've never been to medical school and, assuming you haven't either, neither of us are qualified to make medical judgments.Neurologists, neurosurgeons and neuropathologists are researching repetitive brain injuries and have been doing so for some time.Let's wait to see what *they* might have to say on the subject.

I doubt this happened because guns are illegal.

The devil was inside him.

One can certainly put that forth as one possibility.Another possibility is that he had some sort of serious brain disorder...a major chemical imbalance of some sort.Chemical imbalances can occur in *any* organ of the body...heart...lungs...liver...kidneys...brain.

I was thinking the same exact thing. We are given each day, a choice between a blessing and a curse.

People really don’t comprehend the power of evil in our lives.

Praying for peace and comfort for these families. How very sad. :(

Rush made a comment a few weeks back that they’d look for a reason to ban football, and he wasn’t joking.

Being a POS person made him do it.
No brains,no class, and no sense of responsibility are a bad mix.

Worse is the fact that so many of us don’t recognize the power to choose

The fact that choices can sometimes be difficult is what make some say “it’s not really a choice”. How we deal with evil in the world and the way it affects us is a choice, regardless of the difficulties involved.

He's probably a 'roid head.

That or "bath salts" would be my guess. Be interesting to see what the toxicology panel reveals.

That makes sense.

My life is far from perfect and I choose mild irritation and acceptance over the rages of my youth.
