Gunman had "altercation" with school staff day before masssacre

The gunman in the Newtown massacre had an "altercation" with four staff members at Sandy Hook Elementary School the day before he killed 20 children, six adults and himself there, Connecticut and federal officials told NBC News Saturday.

Three of the four staff members were killed Friday in one of the worst school shootings in U.S. history. The fourth staff member was not at school that day and is being interviewed by federal and state investigators, NBC News’ Pete Williams said.

Two days before that, Adam Lanza, 20, went to a sporting goods store in Danbury, Conn., and tried to purchase a rifle, but was rebuffed because the state has a waiting period for gun sales, the officials said.

If he got three of the four that he had confronted the day before, that would explain half of the staff fatalities. I imagine that he was looking for the fourth one as well and not finding her took out her class. Assumably the other adults were in the wrong place at the wrong time or trying to intervene.

If something beyond vengance against the four he had had the confrontation with had been a motive, it probably could have been much worse, as it sounds like it wouldn’t have been that difficult to take out more classes given the lock-down respons adopted.

In that part of the country it will occasion a groundswell of demands that more laws be passed to outlaw the shooting of schoolchildren as well as laws to outlaw gun possession by sane people who don’t shoot schoolchildren. In a more rational area they just might consider that schoolteachers should be allowed to be armed and that fact be made public.

Yup, the "gun control laws" currently in effect WORKED...

No they didn't work. The law stopped that purchase the perp still found a way. Someone hell bent to commit a crime WILL find a way. Yesterday in China, 20 schools kids were killed with a knife.

Does it matter?

I'll see you that question (Yes, it matters. Dispute over a parking ticket? Angry about a mural? Upset the Principal may have an inappropriate relationship with his mother?) and raise you another question: Do you really believe it doesn't matter?

Been there, spent time in jail for defending myself, would do the same again.

This POS should have been immobilized either right after his altercation or at his gun purchase attempt. This kind of trash is allowed to continue their BS until they kill someone.

The whole pansy a$$ system is broken. The psycho should have been dealt with before he was able to kill.

Got scared last night because my wife came home from work and said that maybe we (Americans) should start looking at some gun control legislation.

This shooting spooked her in a brand new way.

I think there's going to be a lot of people who now feel the same way as your wife.

I've previously posted that I wasn't too worried about Obama taking up gun control, that it wasn't worth the political capital he'd have to expend. Twenty dead kindergartners changes things. I now firmly believe that we'll see myriad new gun control laws coming down the pipe in response to yesterday's tragedy and there won't be a damn thing the NRA can do to stop it. Obama now has the political capital he needs and, most importantly, he'll have full support from those minority and female voters who returned him to the White House.

Come Christmas morning when Americans turn on their TVs and see images of grieving parents, unopened presents and little kid-sized coffins being lowered in to the ground, every minivan-driving soccer mom in the land is going to be screaming for Obama to do something.

"What was the nature of the "altercation" the day prior?"

Does it matter?

Really?

Actually, it may matter. If it was the kind of beneign altercation that happens a thousand times a day across the country and is forgotten a few minutes later (i.e., a verbal dispute over a parking space, who's next at McWendy Kings, or abuse of the express lane at the grocery store, that never goes beyond a dirty look, mumbling under the breath, or an obscene gesture), then that's one thing; but if this guy became enraged, took the altercation to the next level and made specific threats of violence, and nothing was done about it, then there are a lot more questions to ask.

That’s damned interesting.

It’s 4Chan, so yeah, it could be a fake, but then again, it could be real. Only way to know is to get into the kids’ computer and see what he had on there, provided he didn’t wipe it first.

Graphic, but interesting. Where the hell did he find a photo of Harris and Klebold dead, I wonder? I should say, who posted that on the web? Pretty morbid.

First, there are already more than 20,000 gun control laws actively on the books today and none of them prevented this tragedy. Second, millions upon million of people in America own guns and 99.9999% of them have never and will never do anything like this.

So, let’s lose the hysteria and analyze the facts - a PERSON did this, NOT a hunk of steel. In Portland, a PERSON killed two people in the mall, NOT a hunk of steel! In Denver, a PERSON shot up the theater, NOT a hunk of steel!!

NONE of these facts will matter to the gun-grabbing nanny-staters, because they focus solely on the gun and nothing else. So, what happens if ALL guns are outlawed and forcibly collected by the feds? Someone bent on committing mass murder may turn to knives, hatchets, chainsaws or machetes. So, we outlaw those. The next person to commit a heinous crime may use a bat, poison, poison gas or a semi-tractor. And the one after that may use a car, a pen or pencil, a rock, his hands . . . . . . so when do we blame the PERSON and NOT the inanimate weapon!???

The fact remains that until the left understands that murdering humans by ANY means including their favorite method, abortion, human life will be valueless and more copycats will come out to exercise their demented mass murder of innocent people.

All of that said, it occurs to me that the gun-grabbers are from the leftist school of complete control. What that means is that if 1 person commits a gun crime then, under the leftist theory of the “collective” and “groupthink”, they believe that ALL gun owners will commit mass murder unless they eliminate guns (good luck with that!). So, the calls for more gun control by the left after these incidents is twofold - eliminate the “balance of power” the Founding Fathers so carefully wove into the Constitution and gain total control over the people.

Another part that affects all of this is the fact that laws, whether gun laws, robbery laws, or whatever, are written solely to affect law-abiding citizens. People who commit crimes are called “outlaws” and criminals because they DON’T adhere to the laws created to control or stop their illegal activities.

So, should the left create additional gun control laws, will it prevent the next gun-related crime? Of course not. Laws only affect those of us who obey them. Those who disregard the law won’t be stopped from committing whatever crime they want to commit.

As a final note, Adam Lanza did not own the guns he used to murder all of the people at Sandy Hook Elementary. They were his mother’s guns and they were all legally purchased and registered. Which begs the question, what will any NEW gun control laws accomplish?

So they did not beef up security after the altercation ?

Oh, but there would be no need to beef up security! The school was a gun-free zone, don-cha-know...

Rather than gun control, they should stop the mind control our youth experience when they watch Hollywood trash, play violent video games, listen to vicious hate-filled music and consume mind-altering drugs.

Pen: In case you missed, see post 28 for background for this post.

Maggief: “I wonder if there was a recent crisis intervention of some sort.”

Certainly something to keep in mind. This could have been building for a week or two-—one day more emotionally escalating than the day before.

Could have started with an extreme argument with mother.

Mon?, Tues (reports he tried to buy gun), Wed, Thurs, Fri.

Motive then being, not so much an attack on mother & her precious school class, but an attack on the “system” -— mother being part of the system “against” him.

Then, it is possible that the classes he chose to shoot were opportunistic-— the closest ones available.

I’m wondering now if the personality disorder wasn’t Narcissism. Folks like that get absolutely outraged over any personal slight, from what I’ve seen. They have this “How dare you offend me, I will show you what happens when you offend ME...”

Now who does that remind me of? Hmmm. Oh, yeah, that usurper in our WH. He's going to play this for all it's worth in getting guns banned so that only his civilian army has them.
