Rep. Louie Gohmert: I Wish to God that the Principal Would Have Had an M4
Townhall ^ | 12/16/2012 | Leah Barkoukis

Many people are insisting we all sit down and have a thoughtful, calm reflection on the Second Amendment after the Connecticut massacre. Others, particularly on the Left, are more forthright and are demanding more gun control. If we are to engage in the former, however, I want to share some of the arguments Rep. Louie Gohmert made today on Fox News Sunday with Chris Wallace.

The segment with Gohmert began with footage of Eric Holder saying we need to discuss who we are as a nation, talk about the freedom and rights we have, and how they can be used in a responsible way. In other words, he wants to talk about gun control. Rep. Gohmert’s response, which brought up Fast and Furious, was priceless:

“Well I think coming from him that’s really important to note coming from a man who’s in a department that forced the sale of guns to people that would bring about the death of people like Brian Terry and there should be national outrage about Mexicans, our neighbors, 200 or more that have been killed by the guns his department have forced to be sold, so he’s right. And Sen. Durbin is right but the conversation we’ve got to have has got to have everybody open-minded. I mean, we all react emotionally that’s why we’ve all shed tears…”

Wallace then brought up the Aurora movie theater massacre and Gohmert making the argument in its aftermath for more people to carry weapons to prevent a similar situation from happening. Wallace asks: “Do we really want folks in movie theaters, and shopping malls, and schools, armed?

CLICK ABOVE LINK FOR THE VIDEO

Gohmert responds: “Once we have this actually open dialogue about the situation you find out…every mass killing of more than three people in recent history has been in a place where guns were prohibited, except for one. They choose this place. They know no one will be armed. You know, having been a judge, having reviewed photographs of these horrific scenes and knowing that children have these defensive wounds, gun shots through their arms and hands as they try to protect themselves and hearing the heroic stories of the principal lunging trying to protect…Chris, I wish to God she had had an M4 in her office locked up so when she heard gun fire she pulls it out and she didn’t have to lunge heroically with nothing in her hands, but she takes him out, takes his head off before he could kill those precious kids.”

Then the obligatory question by the media: Why do people need semi-automatic weapons? Wallace says these are weapons created for law enforcement, for the military, but why does the average person need these “weapons of mass destruction”?

Gohmert: Well, for the reason that George Washington said: A free people should be an armed people. It ensures against the tyranny of the government if they know that the biggest army is the American people, then you don’t have the tyranny that came from King George. That’s why it was put in there. Once you start drawing the line, where do you stop? And that’s why it is important to not just look emotionally – emotionally our reaction is to immediately say lets get rid of all guns…you do it as a judge. You react emotionally but you use your head and you look at the facts and the facts are that every time guns have been allowed, concealed carry have been allowed, the crime rate has gone down. Washington, DC ought to be the safest place in American and it’s not…”

My new “Mosquito” would have done it. People these days are stupid. A single round to the body would have changed everything. A “Gun FREE zone” is just the place for evil to occur. Liberals are the dumbest people on the planet.

Here in Michigan the gun free schools didn’t come about till around 1999 or so. When I was in high school in the 80s we were OK to bring guns to school for hunting after. They had to stay in our cars or in the principal’s office but nobody batten an eye about seeing them in school.

Reply to post #22......

That would work here, but will never happen....Obama, the media, communists politicians in our government, ect. are playing this to where there will be a huge outcry from the general public to do something about guns.....Even China, the UK ect. are in on it.....Where is this leading to?.....

I could have stopped this guy with a .22 pistol.
Liberals hate anybody having the power to defend themselves.
I could have stopped this as could have countless freepers.

The SOB showed armed in camo with a mask at an elementary school. They were helpless.

FU Liberals

Much better than a principal trying to save lives by going hands on whit a crazed gunman. While we will never know how ot would have turned out if the office staff were armed, they would have had fighting chance.

We need the equivalent of air marshalls inside schools. Some teachers and administrators are secretly trained and armed.

* * *

I’ve been thinking the same thing. Many posters here are calling for all (or at least a bunch of) teachers in every school to learn about weapons and concealed carry. They are overlooking the fact that a huge number of teachers these days are progressives who would faint if you forced a gun on them. Far better, and indeed easier, to have “school marshalls” who concealed carry at all times, and the only person who knows who they all are would be the principal (or perhaps even the superintendant of schools). If an intruder has no idea which direction gunfire might come from, it should make him tread a lot more carefully, or perhaps even give up the idea altogether.

The cower and hide mind-set is ludicrous. I have told both of my teenagers at the first sign of an incident like this you run, ignoring all teachers, away from the gunfire and try to keep other buildings or cars between you and the gunfire to a location we have predetermined and call me. I will be there before the police.

I instructed both of them that if they are not able to evacuate then load your hands with books, staplers, small chairs, anything with weight and stand near the side of the door, if it opens start throwing things and run out the door and continue as fast as you can.

I will guarantee that if I wanted through your metal detector and check point bad enough you could not stop me. The Secret Service itself acknowledges that if someone is willing to sacrifice themselves they can get to the president outside the WH.

Besides if you have every been to a federal courthouse you will see the security force, members of the US Marshal’s office sitting around in chairs passively watching the metal detectors, not the doors. Most are also retired LEO or Marshals working the door. On any given day they are reading the paper and drinking coffee not watching who comes in the door. I would always “check” my main weapon but I had my backup, I trust nobody with my security.

Locking the doors, unless is it impenetrable, is useless.

***A “Gun FREE zone” is just the place for evil to occur. Liberals are the dumbest people on the planet.****

This reminds me of 1968 when the Government demanded that all shippers label boxes of firearms being shipped anywhere with a big red tape that said in BIG red letters, FIREARMS.

Many shipments got lost in shipment. I had a dealer tell me that the train conductors would throw off the FIREARMS labeled boxes at rural crossings to waiting cars.

>Schools need to be secure environments. Like court houses.<

.
Court houses are secure for no other reason that there are cops inside the building.

To: Kenny; All

The Israelis have guards at their schools, and teachers armed as well. They don’t have school shootings.

Every state here in the US has National Guard units.

Detach x number of personnel per month, on a rotating basis, for guard duty at schools, either in uniform, or undercover. There’s more than enough personnel to put at least one or two guards at all the schools in any given state. If folks get nervous about the guns near schools, then keep them concealed.

We have Air Marshalls since 9-11-01. Use the same idea for schools. That schools are left defenseless “gun free zones” is absolutely unforgivable.

Guys with training, kevlar, and a weapon to interdict a potential shooter - outside the school.

Arm the principle as well - mandatory handgun or longarm training if you hold that post. In ADDITION to the taser and mace scenario you outlined.

The only way to stop lethal force is with lethal force.

Much talk about the teachers “trying to protect the children by shielding them with their bodies” on the radio and TV broadcasts.

My question is this - how are you protecting ANYTHING if you are not armed? All you are is a dead shield and the person you try to “protect” is also dead.

So the teach, Principal and many of the children died for lack of a gun. That really is the real story here about which we conservatives should be angry. Because it was Washington who had disarmed them.

Liberals have a bizarre worldview.

They believe that since they have willingly disarmed themselves the rest of us should too. The fact is, that the rest of us never made that choice and don’t intend to.

We recognize that disarming ourselves doesn’t eliminate violence.

Indeed tell them the Teacher, Principal, and many of the students in fact died for lack of a gun to defend them not because of one.

Tell them that a Gun is nothing more than a tool, incapable of good or Evil on its own, and that all they have done is disarm the good of the one tool that would have enabled them to defend themselves again such evil, halting the progress of this evil.

Tell them it is useless to be angry at the wind for blowing! That if they wish to be angry, they should instead be angry at house incapable of resisting that wind. Evil on any scale has never be preventable, only manageable and stoppable as the unarmed teachers and Principal attempted to do in vain at the cost of their lives.

Had they had tools they might have stood a chance at saving not only their students lives but their own, instead they were found ill-prepared for the wind thou no fought of their own I might add. The fought is ours, for it was us who disarmed them, it was us who prohibited them from caring any kind of tool that might be used to protect them from this kind of threat.
