SAN JUAN CAPISTRANO (CBSLA.com) — The mayor of San Juan Capistrano is recovering Monday after being attacked while walking with his wife over the weekend.

Mayor John Taylor and his wife were leaving a Christmas event around 11:30 p.m. Saturday when the attack happened, Orange County Sheriff’s Department officials said.

The couple was walking along Old Los Rios and Del Obispo Streets when they heard someone walking behind them, authorities said.

As Taylor and his wife moved off to the side, Taylor was punched in the face and knocked to the ground by two heavy-set Hispanic suspects.

The men continued to punch him and kick Taylor in the head as his wife screamed and tried to help her husband, officials said.

No property was taken and the incident is not being investigated as a robbery.

Taylor was treated and released from a local hospital for face and head contusions. His wife was not injured in the incident, sheriff’s officials said.

Deputies are investigating the random attack and do not believe it was linked to Taylor’s position as mayor.

No arrests have been made.

This was the queue for the wife to take her gun out of her purse and start shooting.

Oh... wait... that was in CA.

This reminds me of a cartoon from about 45 years ago in Playboy Mag. (I only read it for the articles).

A man and woman are held up by an armed man. The woman swings her purse and coldcocks the perp. The husband says...

“My God Ethel! Can’t I take you anywhere without you embarrassing me!”

How about the one where two friends are walking down the street. They look up and see two bandits approaching. One quickly reaches into his wallet and says to his friend, remember that $500.00 I owe you.

Went to school at the Old mission. I still have fond memories of riding my bike through acres or orange trees, lettuce, vegis, avocados, and the small sleepy town of San Juan Capistrano. Can't ever recall there being many fights or nastiness.

Sad story of a country without many morals left. Lived down there( not much different up here morally but is what SJC once looked like in a way) in Capo Beach caring for my granny over 20 years ago and one could not really discern where one city began to one ending from Basoline Road South of San Clemente all the way north of past Ventura. Too bad he didn't have a gun

How about the one where a masked bank robber walks into a bank and trips and his mask falls off. He picks up the mask, puts it back on and then asks an elderly man standing next to him if he saw his face. The elderly man says yes and the bank robber shoots and kills him. The bank robber then turns to a husband and wife standing nearby and asks the wife if she saw his face and she says “No I didn’t. But my husband did.”

I remember that one. Playboy is a liberal rag, but the jokes are funny.

Deputies are investigating the random attack and do not believe it was linked to Taylor’s position as mayor.

Brilliant. Deputies made this determination without a shred of evidence or any investigation. So we can assume that “undocumented” wet backs are just attacking males when encountering couples and not robbing them or anything else. Is this a case of an undocumented wet back hate crime?

We used to live in San Juan when my kids were young. It was the perfect little town to raise children. You never had to worry about your kids playing outside. We lived up Camino Capistrano from the mission and I used to push the baby carriage with kids toddling alongside me and always felt perfectly safe. Don’t remember ever hearing about crime when we lived there. The world has gone to hell in a handbasket!

I keep my fingernails long so they click when I play the piano.

I'm gonna keep them that way till the sparrows fly back to Capistrano.
