www.usdebtclock.org is a source of economic data for the U.S. This data is collected from the various government departments. The website has a tool that you can use to view historic trends from the year 2000 to present and also out to 2016.

Taking a look at the number of people on Social Security and SSI, which is found on the far right column of the webpage, and using the time tool, we can see that between 2000 and 2004 there was an increase of roughly 2.4 Million people, and from 2004 – 2008 approximately 2.8 Million were added to SS/SSI. Over the last 4 years of the Obama Presidency from 2008 thru present we find that the number added has risen to an astonishing 17.4 Million people that accounts for a historic 700 percent increase in the number of approved applicants on SS/SSI and the number is continuing to rise even with the so called recovery.

According to the Social Security Administration website: The SSI program provides a basic national monthly income guarantee, called the federal benefit rate (FBR), to children and adults with disabilities as well as to persons aged 65 or older.

Effective January 2012, the maximum Federal SSI payment for an eligible individual is $698 per month and for an eligible couple $1,048 per month. However, some states supplement the federal SSI payment. SSI benefit amounts and state supplemental payment amounts vary based upon your income, living arrangements and other factors.

If you spend time watching daytime TV, you will see advertisements for lawyers like Binder and Binder at least five times per hour, offering to take your SSI case on contingency. They’ll get you the money, but then take a cut, month after month.

SS is the Social Security program which provides a small monthly income for Seniors.

SSI is the Supplemental Security Income program which provides a small monthly check to supposed disabled people. This program suffers from rampant corruption. The fraud is overwhelming.

In all the discussions about cutting Social Security...no one mentions that the reason it is so costly is the SSI part

SSI pretty much is the new Welfare.....there are so many areas in this country that rely on SSI as the main income provider....and you see all the billboards of lawyers advertising “I can get you SSI”.

SSI is being used as a retirement plan for the elderly parents of legal immigrants. Once they are established here, they sponsor in their elderly parents (under “family unification” provisions of the law) and sign them up for SSI, since the elderly relatives are here legally but have never paid into Social Security. There are numerous publications in Asian countries explaining to people how to do this. If one gets his or her foot in our door legally, the rest of them follow along and sign up. We are suckers.

And the BS is infuriating. The unheathy state of SS is laid at the feet of normal senior citizen retirees. Nobody ever mentions the rampant abuse of disability.
In the past, that meant you were totally blind, lost both legs in an industrial accident, etc. Now it’s legions of obese 29 year old women, lazy guys, etc. Claim a back injury and you are home free.

where i work i see alot of these people. parents cashing their ssi for their kids who are mildly autistic or have ADD or people who have had sickly children. grown men who are on it because their alcoholics. its a freaking epidemic!! And its no small amount either!! enough to pay their mortgage payment or rent...think about it..your kids check pays your mortgage for 18 years!

What I am not certain of as of yet is if the Harry Reids, Bath House Barrys, and Nancy Pelosis of the American Communist Party yet realize that the more rats they eagerly invite on board the cruise liner (the USS Entitlement), the faster the ship will sink, run out of food, and be covered with feces.

There are diabolically clever American Communists - not smart mind you - but fiendish. Pelosi, Reid, and Bath House are clever. The Maxine Waters and Sheila Jackson Lees of the American Communist Party are simply dumb as a box of hammers. If their IQ is above 80 I am Howard Hughes. All they see if "git some mo stuff fo us." However, I don't think the "clever" Communists realize the ship is going to sink much, much faster now.
