Sen. Scott Brown says he now supports a federal ban on assault weapons
masslive.com ^ | 12/19/2012 | Robert Rizzuto

Posted on 12/19/2012 1:46:16 PM PST by massmike

Although he once said banning so-called assault weapons fell under the category of issues best left to the states, Republican U.S. Sen. Scott Brown told The Republican / MassLive.com in an exclusive interview Wednesday that he now supports federal action.

Brown cited the Newtown, Connecticut school shooting that killed 26 people, including 20 children, as the turning point in his stance on the issue.

"What happened in Newtown where those children were subject to that level of violence is beyond my comprehension. As a state legislator in Massachusetts I supported an assault weapons ban thinking other states would follow suit. But unfortunately, they have not and innocent people are being killed," Brown said. "As a result, I support a federal assault weapons ban, perhaps like the legislation we have in Massachusetts."

Earlier in the day, Democratic U.S. Senator-elect Elizabeth Warren, who defeated Brown in November's election, reiterated her support of a federal ban as well as increased measures to strengthen the background check process.

Assault weapons definition: all firearms available to civilians.

I think the crisis that the "progressives" can't afford to overlook -- and the kind that Lincoln talked about in 1854 -- is here. Abe will explain from "the other side."

If you could first know where you are and whither you are tending, you could better judge what to do and how to do it. You initiated a policy to tolerate the Marxist-Alinsky radicals and let them rant; not only has it not ceased but was constantly augmented by decades of infiltration and indoctrination. You now have two Americas. In my opinion, it will not cease until a crisis shall have been reached and passed. A house divided against itself cannot stand. I believe this government cannot endure, permanently, half statist and half free; I do not expect the house to fall; but I do expect it will cease to be divided. It will become all one thing, or all the other.

The question today is either the opponents of statism will arrest the further spread of it and place it on course of ultimate extinction, or its advocates will push it forward till it shall become permanent.

Have you no tendency to the latter condition?

Let anyone who doubts carefully contemplate that now almost complete legal combination — piece of machinery, so to speak — compounded of the Republican Party hands-across-the-aisle doctrine and the dreadful actions among statism's chief architects.

529,000 Americans die each year from tobacco related illnesses. When will the ban on tobacco products commence???

195,000 Americans die from medical errors each year. When will the banning of medical practices commence???

107,400 Alcohol Abuse deaths occur each year. When will there be a ban on alcohol??? Oh, wait! Never mind!

There are on average 34,485 motor vehicle deaths in the U.S. each year. When will private ownership of motor vehicles be banned???

31,758 people die each year from accidental poisoning. Where is the outcry??? There are approximately 16,799 non-firearm related homocides each year. When will the government ban homocides???

FBI statistics show that the number one weapon used in violent crimes is a baseball bat. Why is there no outcry for restricting ownership of baseball bats???

I’d feel a lot better if they went after the illegal gun-running operations that bring guns of all kinds including assault weapons into the country. Then I might feel that they are sincere, instead of a bunch of hypocrites who want to take guns from honest, law-abiding citizens.

Maybe I shouldn’t expect too much from people who deliberately put guns in the hands of criminals who used them in crimes. (Fast and Furious, a serious of crimes/felonies committed by the justice department which has refused to acknowledge its crimes)

What a fricken Constitutional ignorant RINO. Even changing his position he is wrong.

Where does this moron think State Rights trump the FEDERAL GOVERNMENT guaranteed rights (given to us by our creator) in the US Constitution? Can a state institute a restriction of the press? Didn’t think so.

So now he has move off his incorrect position to another incorrect position.

They must not teach English in Mass. What about “SHALL NOT BE INFRINGED” does this RINO not understand? There are 2 clauses in the 2nd Amendment separated by a coma. The Militia portion in no way changes our right to arms and that right SHALL NOT BE INFRINGED.

The ONLY legal way around this is a constitutional amendment but we have all allowed the Nazis in the Federal government to chip away at “SHALL NOT BE INFRINGED”

The 2nd Amendment could read: “Guns are inherently dangerous and a threat to government, the right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed” and once again the first statement does not negate the 2nd statement.

Only an affirmative action failure OR a person bent on our destruction to get EVEN for HIS people does not understand the 2nd Amendment.

You seem to have it right regarding Fast and Furious but writing “I’d feel a lot better if they went after the illegal gun-running operations that bring guns of all kinds including assault weapons into the country” has me questioning what you are saying. When you refer to “assault weapons” do you speak of such in the same manner as the MSM and that you are against the importation of semi-auto rifles modeled after their military counterparts? By the way, welcome to Free Republic.

Note that these numbers have been revised upward to 262 million in the last century, by R.J. Rummel. These numbers represent "democide" victims of mainly Marxist governments, and not combat deaths. Read his excellent book "Death By Government" for more well researched information.

Let me get you up to speed.

The Kenyan appointed “Dead Eye” Biden to chair a kangaroo commission consistiting of the Commissars of Education, Justice and others to “explore” this violence situation that we seem to be having where a particular type of firearm compels people to do bad things. I suspect the commission’s findings and recomendations are already written up, but they will withhold publishing until after “Dead Eye” hosts the show.

Fauxcahantas is doing the “meetoo” dead kid’s blood dance. She was kind of surprised when “Two Face” Brown wanted to join her. He said that instead of singing a swan song he felt like dancing. And all this time we thought he just knew how to do the RINORAT two step.

Sodom by the Bay was heard from as Diane Feinstein threatened to introduce AWB legislation before senility sets in or when the Day Care Senate re-convenes, whichever comes first.

Seriously, just a lot of posing by the usual politiwhores and presstitutes. Keep your ear to the ground and check in here, the Freepers are covering this pretty well.

One last thing, ammo is a great stocking stuffer!!

That’s on the leftist agenda. The commies want us herded into big city slums, so we’re easier to control. That way you’ll need to walk or bicycle everywhere while the leftists Morlocks sit in French-style sidewalk cafes, sip absinthe and watch the drones head to their slave-labor jobs.

The time for the ultimate reckoning is coming up much more quickly than I estimated.

I’m still glad that he took Ted’s seat, and glad that I helped him accomplish it, my happiness is related to something very specific that I had wanted since the 1960s and is not much affected by how weak the guy turned out to be.

Ted’s seat was taken by a republican, all of us old enough to have learned to totally despise Ted Kennedy and what he did to this once great nation, will always get a kick out of that.

The people who should feel ashamed are those who were calling for Brown for president, for a couple of weeks after he was elected, those were some truly misguided people.

these people seem to speak without checking their sources. An assault weapon is one that can fire automatically, that is, one pull of the trigger can expel all the bullets in the magazine. An assult like weapon is one that can’t do that, but RESEMBLES one that can...it looks real mean, but it is the avarage semi-automatic weapon. If you pull the trigger once, one bullet will come out. Remember Gene Autry and Roy Rogers??? They shot six shooters which meant that if they pulled the trigger six times, six bullets would be fired (it always seemed to me that they must have been carrying 100 shot magazines because the gunfights went on forever!!!!) that having been said, only law abiding people obey laws, therefore more laws will be worthless.....don’t we ever wake up????
