I think that is where they will actually start.
I'm sure it would be implemented as a period of time that citizens had to turn in their weapons, after which very high penalties would be imposed for possession.
They wouldn't assume 100% compliance, they would just be happy with the 75% compliance they did get and the knowledge that the other weapons would be collected (and owners punished) over time.
It would all be very low key.
A liberals mind set, a box of shells = something to eat, a magazine = something to read, revolver= a beatles album, yeah “MAN” get out the MarYjaNe aNd tuRn uP tHe voLUme, grOovY man where’s mY FloWers, poWer to tHe pEoPle, liKe my tyE dYe sHirt? This is your brain, this is your brain on drugs.
At that point, even a small group of Congressmen can have a great effect by going on TV and declaring such an action absolutely invalid, and that law enforcement and military, and especially citizens, should ignore this so-called "order."
Would it cause a Constitutional crisis? For sure.
A civil war? See how far Obama wants to take it.
How do I envision people getting hungry?
Selective use of the electrical grid. Crops are watered by electric pumps. Food is processed using electricity.
How about a serious conversation?
There are far too many guns to confiscate. Perhaps 20% to 30% of the population might turn them in but that’s about it. As some have pointed out there are far too many that are untraceable. Most cops I know wouldn’t follow through on such an order. Active confiscation would result in a hot mini-civil war. I say mini because I believe most Americans don’t have the backbone to defend their Constitution or rights and would just roll over.
So how could the government try to eliminate, reduce and or control gun ownership?
1. Ban certain types of ammunition Ex: .223 & 7.62
2. Ban all future sale and transfers of all “assault weapons” and their related parts
3. Review all recent background checks over the previous years and withhold income tax returns until those individuals turn in or register their AR’s & AK’s
4. Enforce EU style registration for all firearms
5. Prohibit gun ownership for a laundry list of reasons including misdemeanors
These are very plausible methods FRiends and don’t think Boehner or the SCOTUS will save you because they’ve proven they won’t.
So if you want a high capacity magazine you will be able to buy one only there will be a $100 dollar federal tax on it. They could also require a federal license to own firearms. You can bet it will cost thousands of dollars and will have to be renewed every year.
The dems will say that the fees collected will go to improving federal mental health programs. Its for the children you know.
Theres the plan. Its not a messy physical gun grab. Its about growing government and taxing taxing taxing taxing us to death.
Did you think about that, before typing?
If they wrote that stupidity today, how would it be enforced?
How many items in my collection were obtained in an untraceable manner?
With the almost cashless world we live in - leftist could cancel our banking and credit card access. It would still be difficult for them - but in the near future, it’ll be easy...l
Take away the guns and only the people with money will have them. $$$ talks no one walks. The gun running black market will prevail. It doesn’t take much to make your own. The Sten gun is a prime example. We ban Cocaine and Heroin and yet tons make it through. It will be just as easy to bring in ammo as the Rum Runners of the Prohibition era. AK 47’s from the factory in Venezuela should be easy to get into the country. It will become a big $$$ business.
That's actually insanely/disturbingly easy:
1 -- Our rail-system goes through one of [fewer than] 16 points in all lengthy runs -- destroy or control those locations and you have control of *ALL* rail-shipping.
2 -- Raise the price of Diesel fuel by another dollar (maybe even as little as 50 cents) and It's likely that a lot of trucking companies will go out of business.
Do both of those and there will be starvation. There are other things that our government can do to exacerbate starvation-enforcement.
>> It would all be very low key.
Not if (say) Gov. Perry publicly proclaimed that the executive order wouldn’t be enforced in Texas, and that no Federal gun collection points would be allowed within the borders of Texas.
That would bring things to a head pretty quickly, in a very high-profile way, don’t you think?
Illinois reviewing pensions for gun investments
6:42AM Friday
December 21, 2012
SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (AP) - Illinois public pension fund managers are reviewing their portfolios for investments in gun manufacturers after last week’s Connecticut school shooting.
Illinois State Board of Investment Executive Director William Atwood says that agency’s $12 billion portfolio includes about 84,000 shares worth $1.7 million in three gun-makers - Olin, Sturm Ruger and Smith & Wesson.
Hm, could you elaborate on that? I've not really been following the shooting reports, so I don't know the significance of those "supposed to" items.
As long as I have a gun I'll never be, "hungry enough".
Don't you know that some people know how to hunt and prepare game?
Other than my bills I pay with cash. My bills are paid online. On payday I withdraw a substantial amount of money and use cash for everything. Stores that ask for my ZIP code either put in a “standard” number or lose my business.
Which is why many countries forbid civilian ownership of "military" calibers.
That's why Glock makes a .380.
Really? You don't think they will try to make it illegal to sell your own weapons? Where you buy your dope might be untraceable but if you get caught selling it, guess what?
Which, I guess, means that, in the end, I need to possess enough "non-military" caliber ammunition to ensure that I can acquire a military weapon from an adversary who no longer has any need for it; which will then allow me to participate in my adversary's resupply chain.
