A suspect is dead and police are seeking three of his cohorts after an apparent home invasion Monday morning at a Las Vegas apartment complex.

Metro Police responded about 10:10 a.m. Monday to La Ventana Apartment Homes, 2901 N. Rainbow Blvd., near West Cheyenne Avenue, after a 911 call from neighbors.

Metro Lt. Ray Steiber said four suspects – at least one of them carrying a firearm – knocked on the door of a first-floor apartment occupied by a couple and their infant. The assailants barged in when the woman occupant answered the door. The intruders were met with armed resistance.

Witnesses reported hearing gunfire exchanged, first inside the apartment and then outside.

If I were fighting four intruders, I would want a 30 round magazine.

In 2000 I lived on that block. It was modern middle income suburbia. By 2005 the gangs ruled it.

Glad I left when I did.

I love these stories about “hostile work places”.

I am going to reserve judgement until we know more. The immediate instinct is to show this as yet another example of someone with a gun defending his/her family.

But for all we know this was one gang member or dope dealer using a street gun against other gang members or dope dealers.

This is an example of the need for high capacity magazines. Three got away.

I would say that this illustrates that one must be prepared to defend one’s family all the time and at anytime.

To let one’s guard down even for a minute on this Monday morning in particular could have resulted in disaster.

I think this shows that a loaded gun in the presence of a baby saved that baby and its family.

Had it been unloaded and locked in a safe, it would have not even been there.

No attempt should be made to disarm this country.

None.

To those people who choose to commit evil crimes with the tool of freedom, see to it that they get justice, and only them.

A semi-auto shotgun has roughly 2x the rate of fire of a pump.

Also suspect 00 buck has problems when used as a load for an interior firefight. I doubt it has much more stopping power than smaller shot at such ranges, while it is most certainly more likely to penetrate walls.

Which its why my Glock has 15 hollow points in it, another mag close by, and the AR has 30 hollow points in it. To hell with magazine capacity limits when you might be facing multiple intruders...

Screw the pump. I’d use my 930SPX.

Love my matched set of Browning 20 gauge and 12 Gauge. Keep them clean and oiled....they work every time.

Oh, yeah, my S&W 357 mag for a side arm.

I’m thinking any shotgun is better than a handgun, or rifle, for close quarters combat. The fact that only one perp is down is proof positive.

true but the sound of racking a round into a shotgun is universally and worldwide known as oh $hit I messed up. It is a good defense. on the other hand by the time they hear the semi auto rack it has already gone off once and the oh $hit moment maybe too late to mentally register before the lead met its target. pays yer money and take your choice.

This is exactly what the left wants to take away from us. They want the criminal to waltz right in and take what is “rightfully” his from the “oppressors.”

A modern sport utility rifle (carbine for maneuverability) with a 30 round magazine and soft-point/frangible ammunition will limit over-penetration yet penetrate most common body armor. Very controllable and very fast.

“A semi-auto shotgun has roughly 2x the rate of fire of a pump.”

NOT IF YOU PRACTICE! A semiautomatic SG is limited to the speed of the action cycling. A pump can shoot at the rate you can pump (which some can do faster than the speed of your semi.). Plus, a pump is less particular about which ammo goes through it.

Yes, I’d think birdshot would be plenty / more effective and have less collateral problems than 00 buck. Especially at room distances.

I sure as hell would not want to get hit with it.
