This photograph, released by the White House on Thursday, reveals the terrible moment when President Barack Obama was told the shocking news about the massacre at Sandy Hook Elementary School.
The President, who has described the day of the shootings as the worst day of my presidency, is seen bowing his head and closing his eyes as John Brennan, his deputy national security adviser, informs him about the tragic events unfolding in Newtown, Connecticut.
In the wake of the tragedy, the president has tasked his deputy Joe Biden with leading a task force to look at proposals to tighten current firearms legislation.

And notice that the door to the oval office is propped open with the brass hardware, like this totally transparent administration has an “open door policy”, so anyone passing by can come in to worship the “won”.
Me too. He has always has given me the impression he is in over his head - totally incompetent - does just as he is told!
This son of Frank Marshall Davis is really thinking about how he can use this shooting to chip away at the 2nd Amendment.
I believe that about as much as I believe Joe Isuzu.
I think he just got told they were having liver and onions again in the white house cafeteria.
Look how thick that door is. 3-4”?
Oh gosh, I got a cold chill up my spine seeing that picture again.
That would really tick off Mooch, with her obesity program.
;)
Obama: "Were they white kids or black kids?"
That door propped open? There is no wood trim around the opening - looks like it is a secret door - with “secret” being more in line with this pResident.
And that “pose” is odd. I imagine some expert could get something from it. But the crossed legs and arms seem very nonchalant. When I turned on my computer that morning and saw the headlines I was alone at home and cussing and yelling and banking the desk with my fists - seriously. A mix of anger and sadness at the evil that had happened.
learn not to 'freak out'.
Driving the 'Choom Wagon" doesn't instill the same sort of discipline.
No kidding. He is sitting on the back of a couch and has his legs crossed over and his arms crossed. Looks kind of casual.
You would think he would look more animated and agitated, and would be directly looking at his staff member who is relating to him a very horrible incident.
I think it is a photog set up to "catch the moment...the worst day for him".
Why doesn't he acknowledge the worst day for the families; I'm sure that their days are far worse than Obama's.
“Convenient that the WH photographer just happened to be in the Oval Office to catch the historic moment. I call BS.” _______________________________
My thoughts exactly....
"Wake up, Mr. President! There's been a crisis we mustn't let go to waste!"
Obama looks like he's sleeping. So, he closes his eyes. That says nothing.
The eyes show the soul. Obama closes his and cross ankled leans on the couch. Bush's eyes are aflame - no doubt he was taking info in and making next steps in his mind.
Bush is criticized for continuing to read the children's book to conclusion.
What should he do? Get hysterical? Walk out on the kids? Scare the kids getting hysterical and walking out before finishing a children's story.
He probably didn't want to freak them out. How long would it take to finish reading a children's book.
He was roundly criticized but, for the sake of these children, I think he did just the right thing. After finishing the story, he got on to the business of what had been laid on his and the country's shoulders.
