The author makes a good case, but I still prefer my Marlin 39M Mountie.

The IDF uses a .22lr for urban fighting/sniping.

I have read more than once that both organized criminals as well as government assassins prefer the Beretta model 70 for murdering or killing civilians. The model 70 is one of my favorite pistols. It is light handy and totally reliable.

I have two Walther model PP pistols. One in .380 and one in .22. I would prefer the .380 loaded with hollow points for protection but if I could not get HPs I think I would choose the .22. I definitely would choose a Ruger 10/22 over either one. I have hunted with and shot a large number of animals including feral dogs and hogs and a .22 out of a rifle barrel is deadly, very deadly.

What is the most effective .22 LR round?

I cast my vote for the M-1 Garand.

I have the Garand, by my daily carry rifle for walking the properties is a Ruger Ranch. It has the same basic layout as an M1A1, but is much lighter, shoots what was, until recently, a widely available NATO round, and is adequate for the coyotes that prowl the properties.

Also a big fan of the AR platform, but it serves a much different function, especially in its HBar configuration.

For going into battle, I'd definitely grab the AR. For fending off an attack from a distance I grab - well, nobody needs to know, but for just an everyday, do it all rifle, I've been well served by the Ranch.

If you could only have one gun, what would it be?

A Beeman Kodiak pellet rifle with scope in .22 cal. (Or any comparable spring driven pellet rifle)

500 round tins for approx. 5$ - 9$ each depending on brand. For a hundred dollars you can have well over five thousand rounds of ammunition.

It will easily provide you with plenty of rabbits, birds, squirrels, etc.....to supplement your stored food stuffs. Plus, they're quieter than a typical rifle.

Beeman Kodiak

With this particular air rifle you can easily nail a rabbit at 50 yds. (I say 50 because that's the farthest I've ever shot one even tho the distance of accuracy is greater)

Ok, from what I’ve been able to find on that topic, the .22lr is chosen for use from a suppressed weapon. This is for advantages of stealth, not lethality.

You did, however, prove me wrong.

I saw a couple of pictures of the IDF using a .22 with a bull barrel. What I’ve been told is it’s used under crowd control. They go for the groin shot.

I like my Remington Nylon 66. If I didn’t have it then I would consider the Ruger.

I still like my Win 74.

Gunblast.com has a video review on this. I think unless you use long magazines you can have some issues. It looked fun but not refined enough to match the price tag.

Exactly (though not to you LOL) but yeah, they have sniper teams that are used in crowd control. The leader goes down and the riot pretty much takes care of getting away. You don't hear much on the media about this.

They're using a Ruger 10/22

Love my Takedown......probably my favorite gun to shoot. The fact that it breaks down and can be taken anywhere is the icing on the cake.

A more accessible gun is one which will get used more.
