The Obama Simulacrum - This administration sneers at reality and its consequences. (Mark Steyn)
National Review Online ^ | January 25, 2013 | Mark Steyn

Posted on 01/25/2013 7:45:48 PM PST by neverdem

If I’m following this correctly, according to one spokesperson for the Marine Corps Band, at Monday’s inauguration Beyoncé lip-synced to the national anthem but the band accompanied her live. However, according to a second spokesperson, it was the band who were pretending to play to a pre-recorded tape while Beyoncé sang along live. So one or other of them were faking it. Or maybe both were. Or neither. I’d ask Chuck Schumer, the master of ceremonies, who was standing right behind her, but he spent the entire performance staring at her butt. If it was her butt, that is. It might just have been the bulge of the Radio Shack cassette player she was miming to. In an America with an ever more tenuous grip on reality, there’s so little to be sure of.

Whether Beyoncé was lip-syncing to the band or the band were lip-syncing to Beyoncé is like one of those red pill/ blue pill choices from The Matrix. Was President Obama lip-syncing to the Founders, rooting his inaugural address in the earliest expressions of American identity? (“The patriots of 1776 . . . gave to us a republic, a government of, and by, and for the people, entrusting each generation to keep safe our founding creed.”) Or maybe the Founders were lip-syncing to him as he appropriated the vision of the first generation of Americans and yoked it (“preserving our individual freedoms ultimately requires collective action”) to a statist pitch they would have found utterly repugnant...

You gonna start shootin’? Tonight?

Mark Steyn is a foreigner who actually cares about the demise of the west and articulates the descent with ascerbic wit.

Polemicists have their place. Steyn is the best, as others like Ann C have attrited or moderated or otherwise spun off course.

Rush and Steyn are the best we have on the frontline. Lowry and VDH, Levin and a few others are second tier, IMHO.

We need these voices out there to grab the few inquiring minds on the fence.

As Steyn points out, "what difference does it make" is the perfect description of this administrations attitude.
They think they are untouchable.

As Steyn might say, taking responsibility means taking action when it counts and not merely lip syncing that you have taken multiple identical metaphysical actions (Clinton) or physical action at some undefined future point (combat_boots). OTOH, combat_boots, having taken no physical actions that we are aware of in this thread, should ask him/herself: what difference does he/she make?

And — as of yet — who has succeeded in laying a hand on them?

Perhaps the epic battle over gun control will change that.
Perhaps not...

It’s still a war of minds, IMHO.

There are some minds and souls yet to be influenced. Be prepared for bear, but exercise finesse.

I’m a career state prison guy. You’d be surprised how many inmates listen to Rush, even though they’ll never vote again.

When you come to your senses and realize that there is no such thing as right or wrong without God, it changes things.

Well, they’ve been untouchable, haven’t they? These are the people who, led by clever scoundrels like Bill Ayers, have figured out how to play the system that so many here, and not only here, like to think was created perfect by the Founders. You can beat the casinos at blackjack and you can beat a democratic republic all the time playing by its rules. The Constitution is not a suicide pact famously said a Supreme Court Justice, so famously that I can’t remember his name, but it was a false if brave declaration.

That reminds me of the old Chronicles magazine cover "Don't vote, it just encourages them". Your inmates might be better off than the rest of us.

Staring at your navel for 5-10 years can do wonders if a seed was planted. All the while, dealing with demon-possessed nut cases and gangs, etc.

We’ll see many of them in heaven.

I know inmates who have been there the whole time I’ve been there (1983), and others who came in later who will never get out.

Some of them have a scrap of humanity left, not all, but a remnant.

The first shall be last, and the last shall be first.

We have a former inmate who has turned himself around and is now selling art on the side to support himself instead of doing what got him in trouble in the first place. While he was inside he was able to produce a fair amount of it. He’s pretty good, he’s reasonable because he doesn’t have the ego problems typical of some artists and isn’t full of himself, and we have sold a three of his paintings so far.

Great Steyn! But it’s one of the most depressing commentaries I have read, or at any rate, its subject is. When Hillary made her breathtakingly callous and arrogant remark, I was sure that the Administraton had finally gone too far. But within ten minutes,I learned that it was being triumphantly tweeted around the world by the media as being the best defense ever, a courageous and devastating response to the petty minds of those who would question this regime, and the ringing final statement on the matter.

Steyn’s right. What does reality matter to this regime? We’re all being forced to live in the delusional world inside our dictator’s head.

I don’t know what can free us.

Thank you for your ‘vote of confidence.’ /ridicule.

The answer? You have no idea, and I won’t tell you.

But of course, your suggestion that “what difference (do I) make” has made my point.

“You gonna start shootin’? Tonight?”

No.

There is no action, no depravity, no ‘negligence,’ no evil act this Administration will not take, command, or hire as a result of whispered commands in sound-proofed, untraceable, coded conversations. None.

has made my point.

Which is what? That your "action" is more powerful than Steyn's words? Maybe it is since I have no idea and you won't tell me. But the pen is (mostly) mightier than the sword. Maybe your case is one of the rare exceptions. Also civil disobedience isn't worth anything if it isn't public. Maybe yours is, I have no idea. But I think it's more likely that you have no point.

Stalin famously scoffed, “How many divisions has the Pope?”

Secretary Clinton was more audacious: How many divisions has reality?

Not enough.

Reality will have plenty of divisions - for us. We’ll bear the brunt of it, when the bill comes due.

The idea around which “liberalism” coheres is that nothing actually matters except PR - and our journalists presume that they have all the divisions there can possibly be in a PR battle. But that will only matter so much when the shelves are bare and the gas stations have no fuel for sale - and we can’t get electricity or heating fuel in the wintertime.

Boner and the republicans should hire Mark Steyn to teach them how to expose the lying scumbags of the democrat party. He has a gift of being able to put words together that make democrats look like the dishonest douchebags they really are. If Steyn was allowed to question Hillary at the hearings he would have made her look like the lying piece of shit she is.

Hey, what difference does it make? Lip-syncing the national anthem beats singing it. Peddling a fictitious narrative over the coffin of your “friend” is more real than being an incompetent boss to your most vulnerable employees. And mouthing warmed-over clichés about vowing to “bring to justice” those responsible is way easier than actually bringing anyone to justice.

Up is down. Black is white. Fiction is reality. Reality is whatever the Left says it is. 'What difference does it make?' indeed.

The media of this age is bought and sold out. They are the ones whose job it is to call BS on these obvious lies. They know deep down, every time they look at themselves in the mirror, that if this occurred under a GOP POTUS they would have run the entire Administration out of DC long ago. Shame and dishonor be on them. A pox on all their houses.

The following is a comment following the 1/25/13 article on National Review Online (NRO) by Mark Steyn:
The Obama Simulacrum - This administration sneers at reality and its consequences
The commenter speaks for many of us: “For shame Madame Secretary. For shame your too-late tears. And that’s just Benghazi”.

“What difference does it make that they buggered Amb Chris Stevens and dragged him still alive though suffocating on his own socks through the streets of Benghazi, the burqa-d evil hags ululating while al Qaeda’s henchmen desecrated him still more under the all-seeing eyes of our oddly ineffectual drones?

What difference does it make that former Navy SEALs Tyrone Woods and Glen Doherty deserted their posts at the Annex to go out into the night to save their Ambassador and fellow Americans, forsaking all because it was their solemn deadly duty – while David Petraeus and Hillary Clinton watched it all unfold in a Washington bunker, and did nothing?

And they died just like US Navy SEALs, ammo all spent, hunched over their guns. Oh, the brave brave honorable men. What difference does it make?

What difference does it make that computer specialist Sean Smith – husband and father of two – signed off with a last message before al Qaeda’s jackals came over the walls, with a premonition that he would not survive the night in a compound about which endless frantic requests for security upgrades / enhancements had gone unheeded?

For shame Madame Secretary. For shame your too-late tears. And that’s just Benghazi.

What difference does it make if this President now shreds our cherished Bill of Rights and the Second Amendment to the Constitution?

What difference does it make that our vaunted Free Press only speaks for the government – and does so willingly without duress?

What difference does it make if our front line offensive units – the finest Infantry * ever to march the Earth – are now feminized and neutralized and defeated piecemeal in battle wherever they are sent?

What difference does it make if in all-male barracks in China (Red China) and Russia and North Korea, in Iran and Venezuela and Cuba tough men are sharpening their skills to crush the soft sissified units of the United States Armed Forces and then rape and pillage and carry off our children?

What difference does it make that God is no longer welcome in our Public Square, that the institutions of Faith themselves have lost their way to the false gods of the Left, that our Churches are empty because our People no longer believe in the sanctity of Life, in the Greatness of their Nation, in their ability to achieve rather than to merely suck down the product of their neighbors’ efforts?

When all is now hopeless and lost, what difference does it make?

America will be back. I do believe that. We are and remain the New Jerusalem. The Left is the “What Difference Does It Make” Crowd. There is still some spirit and spunk within us. We are still a Nation of Believers. We still have our Second Amendment, for now - though our Free Press has cast its lot with Tyranny. We have to counter the lies of the pro-government / Tyrant’s Press. And, they will have to come and get our guns. We simply must defeat the Tyrannical Left if we are to survive as a Nation.

It All Makes a Difference, Madame Secretary. Benghazi makes a difference. The Second Amendment makes a difference. We shall prevail.

America shall prevail.

* I refer to all US Combat Arms. But, I, I am an Infantryman. An Infantryman.”

Honorable? I don't think so!

When it comes to facing the music, Obama is peerless at making a song and dance about tunes nobody’s whistling without ever once warbling the real big numbers (16 trillion). But, like Beyoncé, he’s totally cool and has a cute butt.

At one time in this once fair land, a Secretary of State (or anybody in government "service") making such an appalling remark would have been fired within 2 hours. Now, the outrages simply pile up one on another, and the politicians, their purring lapdog media, and their loutish followers just laugh until they are forgotten.

America is headed down the broad road to Hell. If the rapid slide isn't stopped soon, we will all end up in burning in the flames and we will deserve it!
