Rubio Shockingly Convinced Rush Limbaugh That His Immigration Plan Was 'Admirable And Noteworthy'
Business Insider ^ | 01/29/2013 | Brett LoGiurato

Republican Sen. Marco Rubio — one of the bipartisan group of eight Senators proposing an overhaul of the nation's immigration system — managed to make a believer of conservative radio host Rush Limbaugh.

On his radio show Monday, Limbaugh dismissed the plan as blanket amnesty and said it was "up to me and Fox News" to stop it.

But Limbaugh took a different tone on Tuesday when speaking with Rubio directly.

Limbaugh opened the segment by asking Rubio, "Why are we doing this now?"

"The key is this was going to be an issue," Rubio said. "I thought it was critically important that we outline the key principles." He said he doesn't want the immigration debate to be "defined" by President Barack Obama and Democrats.

Rubio confirmed that he wouldn't support any bill that doesn't attach conditions for border security in exchange for a path to citizenship. Limbaugh said that he thinks Democrats don't want border security because they want more voters to come in that typically vote Democratic. "I am confident that given a fair chance, I can convince most Americans that limited government and free enterprise is better for them. Because that's the reason that they came here," Rubio said.

Limbaugh said he doesn't see where there's any common ground between Republicans and Obama.

Rubio said that the President has an "important decision."

"I'm not going to be part of a bidding war to see who can come up with the most lenient path forward," Rubio said. He repeats that he won't support a bill without any enforcement "triggers."

Limbaugh then asked Rubio whether he thinks Obama really wants reform or if he keeps wanting to use it as a political wedge issue.

"That's precisely why I thought it was important to get our principles out there early,"

I think Rubio’s case is right on...I am not sure his ideas won’t be morphed into something totally different by Shumer, Obama and Reid by the end of this. In fact, history tells us, the plan won’t work the way it is laid out. The fact is, our immigration laws need to be updated, our border security needs improvement, and we have to do something to deal with the illegals here that will involve making many legal workers. A way to get them into the standard immigration process once they are legalized as workers is fine with me as long is it offers nothing for free and nothing ahead of legal immigrants. It is a tricky road, but generally, I think Rubio is on the right path.

Rush is right almost ALWAYS, and this one time I think he’s a little star-struck. Rush has said numerous times Rubio will one day be Prez.

I think he’s giving Rubio way too much credit, this one day.

Rubio will be seduced by the Letterman-Jacket guys, and Rush is being a little seduced by Rubio.

Rubio is BETTER THAN AVERAGE —not saying much, IMO.

Rubio’s plan is stupid. It does not matter what guarantees are given about border security. they will no be implemented or enforced while the bargained amnesty will be wholeheartedly promulgated, implemented, and enhanced to include essentially anyone south of the Rio Grande who wants to come.

Rubio’s Rush interview was compelling, but Obama is a scofflaw. Getting Obama to enforce tighter controls on the border is likely a non-starter let alone the laws that are already in the books.

Rubio retorted to Rush that Obama will not always be president.

Rubio: “Yeah. ... I pray that it works out. I can’t guarantee that it will.”

I bet General Pickett said something similar to General Lee right before the charge. There is no Repub upside to this. It is suicide for Repubs and America. I hope I’m wrong.

Anyone who believes that this Obama/Dem-run government is going to enforce ANY of the regulations and requirements that are written into any legislative bill is an abject fool. It will become wide-open amnesty the moment before the ink from Obama’s pen is dry.

Republicans that go for this are either idiots or, as often the case nowadays, closet big-government statists that are in ideological allignment with the Dems and working with the ruling-class to further disenfranchise if not obliterate the tea-party/Constitutional conservative voice from the political process.

And if it doesn’t work, how will Rubio be accountable? Seriously. If he can’t convinve most people he’s right, what real repercussions will Rubio face?

Absolutely none. There’s no risk to him.

Been there, done that.

The last amnesty was going to shut down the border.

It didn't.

This amnesty is going to shut down the border.

It won't.

Rubio and Ryan are cut from the same mold... they know how to fabricate a superficially plausible plan that has no chance of actually working in the real world.

Rush just said we are being whipsawed. First it was getting rid of guns and now it is amnesty. Rush said we are witnessing an attack on the law abiding citizens.

You aren’t wrong. Rush just concluded that law-abiding citizens are the enemy and that we are being “whip-sawed” by a “diabolical” attack on the good guys.

Rush is promoting Rubio for POTUS candidate.

Rubio's parents were both Cuban nationals and not America Citizens when he was born so he's disqualified from the office of POTUS.

The Constitution requires that he be a Natural Born Citizen. To be considered a Natural Born citizen 8 U.S. Code, Section 1401 requires that the mother be an American citizen who has lived in the U.S. for five years or more, at least two of those years after the age of 14. If the mother fits those criteria, the child is a U.S. citizen at birth, regardless of the father's nationality.

Both of Rubio's parents were Cuban when he was born. He can never be the POTUS.

and nothing ahead of legal immigrants.

So, I assume you object to these illegal aliens being physically in the USA years ahead of the legal immigrants?

Illegal aliens are government growth hormone.

30 million illegals is enough to create some 50 new primarily democrat congressional districts with all the costs, pork, earmarks, entitlements, and liberal votes associated with them.

Anyone who supports amnesty and calls themselves a conservative is a liar.

the whole bill...enacted/enforced.. done.
anything other than that is "cheap wordplay".

I wish I could believe that he will not. If we do not have him in there for life, he will merely be replaced by Soros with yet another puppet.

Rubio’s not even going to try to talk them out of their affirmative-action goodies—which they will not vote against.

I have come to the conclusion that Rush is basically the consummate bullshit artist. He can offer simultaneous tepid praises and concerns on both sides of an issue, and then people hear and amplify the parts they want to hear, and Rush looks like he’s being fair and balanced. It’s all crap. He should stick to the free market economy mantra. Amnesty is a lie and a trap that will destroy the country, and people wonder why the GOP is going down the shitter.
