Thank you for your sacrifice and I feel for you. I hope what you are doing by taking a stand starts to change this country for the better.

What some don't understand or believe is that many in the private sector (us rich people) have been sacrificing since 2008 with no mention except for the "unexpected" numbers every month.

I told all my reservists today that they should consider pulling IDTs on those days they’re furloughed - it’s still the gummint’s money, and their active duty units of assignment get some benefit. I also told them I recognized that I’m trying to find the pony in the pile of horse crap.

AND Obama and his fellow Cretins LUVS SOME Federal Employees(DHS, EPA, DOJ, Dept “Energy”, Dept “Education” etc) MUCH more than “Others(DoD)”.

I'm still waiting for the other shoe to drop. I already take in the the shorts by paying 100% of the cost of living 900 miles from my home to work for my employer. That is already an 18% income hit for me. I've accepted that hit since June 2009 because my opportunities dried up when Obama took office. Any employment I could take locally in Idaho would pay much less even after the hit for being out of town.

Another 20% hit would make my current employment income on par with employment available in Idaho. I could go home and be with my family again (a big plus) and have similar gross income.

Which means less taxes paid into the federal coffers.

And less miles driven to work so less gas purchased. And less money spent at walmart.

Et cetera.

Hubby works for a major heavy equipment manufactorer. The plant is now being shut down for a week every month, and this is on top of the three week shutdown over Christmas. I do feel sorry for those who are losing salary over this, but those of us in the private sector have been facing this for a few years now.

That was kind of a cavalier retort IMO. This guy is actually doing something beneficial I presume...does not seem to be one of those union reps or affirmative hirings. Frankly, they could let go all of the ridicules jobs and leave the workers on the rolls full time.

Yes, they will probably not see any loss of pay when everything plays out. Still, it is a pain having your mind messed with in some political drama. Someone called into Herman Cain’s show today and asked an interesting question: Is the government going to indemnify those businesses which did not adhere to the law and give the required notices of potential layoffs due to His Excellency’s demanding they not give notice before the election? His answer was it will be up to Congress because he was not authorized to make that comment. Seems to me encouraging someone to violate the law is a high crime.

What a comedy show it is DC...tragedy would perhaps be a better term.

the last time the government was shut down and Federal (GS) employees weren't fully paid on time they didn't lose any pay.

This isn't just a Gov't shutdown.

These are permanent cuts (or supposed to be).

The private sector has been tightening the belt the last several years. Looks like Gov't workers will now experience the same.

And that's the foolishness of it all - the furlough is supposed to result in a cost savings to the Govt. But when the civilian workforce gets paid back for the furlough days, there's a double whammy - no savings and no productivity. It becomes a paid vacation without having to use your vacation time.

“While some furlough notices will be issued to government workers, there will be few outward signs on March 1 that the cuts have been launched.

Under the law, retirees are shielded and so their Social Security checks will arrive on schedule at the beginning of March and every month thereafter. Similarly, the elderly and the disabled will not see their federally backed Medicare healthcare curtailed at all over the seven months.

Every U.S. soldier will get paid and the Defense Department will be allowed to shift funds to ensure that combat operations and “critical military readiness capabilities” are not degraded, according to the Obama administration.”

But that those in private industry won’t.

If government employees had the same salaries, benefits etc as private workers, there would be fewer government employees (and you can look up that comment about government employee total compensation vs private employees).

Moreover, this is a 2.5% cut in spending, not a government shutdown

Correction, it is NOT a CUT. It is a reduction in the rate of growth (you remember baseline budgeting). Even after the sequester is fully implemented, we will end up spending more in 2013 than we did in 2012. It is NOT a freaking CUT!!!

We have been through many of these “if we don’t do this, so and so is gonna be cut, people will be furloughed, etc.” routines. It will be the same here.

Besides, and I’d like to tell you that at least I had the foresight to look at his member page that says “I’d rather be fishing!” before I posted what I did.

Next time you go thru the TSA checkpoint, instead of three employees siting in the back eating donuts, there will only be two back there. The other one will be on furlough.

Opinion February 20, 2013

Obama Says The Sky Is Falling And It Can’t Get Up
Unless he gets another tax hike—like just happened a month ago—Obama claims we’re all in danger.

Not only does President Obama claim the sky is falling, he also says it can’t get up.
.

Unless he gets another tax hike–like just happened a month ago—Obama claims we’re all in danger.

While still pretending that he’s cut federal spending dramatically—which is totally false—Obama says hundreds of thousands of Americans will lose their health care access.

He claims tens of thousands of parents will lose childcare.

He claims FBI agents will be laid off and criminals will be turned loose. And Obama says there’s no escape, because air traffic control will be a mess.

There are better ways to handle scheduled slowdowns in spending—the sequester—Obama ignores them and now he’s trying to make public safety and our military take the hit.

The question is not whether the sky is falling, but whether we are going to fall for Obama’s scare tactics.

From The Heritage Foundation, I’m Ernest Istook.

Indeed, what Obama is doing, on a larger scale, is just like how PBS puts a gun to the head of Big Bird everytime their public funding is threatened.

Obama really needs to be called out on how the cuts are going against essential services, not bloat.
