Transit officials call for restrictions if concealed carry law is enacted
Chicago Tribune ^ | February 23, 2013 | By Monique Garcia and Richard Wronski

Worried transit officials asked lawmakers to imagine a CTA train packed with inebriated, possibly irate fans after a Cubs night game, then consider the wisdom of adding gun-toting passengers to the potentially volatile mix.

Or what if a thief grabbed a bus rider's iPhone — a not-uncommon crime — and an armed commuter tried to stop the criminal?

Those scenarios were raised Friday by Chicago transit officials, who called on state legislators to prohibit anyone from carrying a weapon on buses and trains if a concealed-carry law is adopted in Illinois.

Transit agencies across the state contend that allowing individuals to carry firearms on buses and trains would be dangerous, even catastrophic, because "interpersonal conflicts are commonplace" among passengers, testified Jeanne Wrenn, a Pace official.

The issue boiled up at a House Judiciary Committee hearing in Chicago the same day that a divided federal appeals court rejected Illinois Attorney General Lisa Madigan's request for a rehearing on the case in which the state has been ordered to allow citizens to carry guns in public. . .

Oh, the horror. Just imagine, law abiding citizens would be allowed to protect themselves from murderous thugs in Chicago and elsewhere in Illinois..

This is ridiculous. It’s like they just expect to have cell phones stolen while on the train.

I guess it has become the norm.

Big city people have come to the point where they accept mugging as a normal part of life, and they want to force everyone else to see things their way.

and did even a single person say anything about ways to stop the thief? No? Just ways to stop the victim from defending themselves?

This from Chicago Channel 7-ABC two days ago:

. . .With the clock ticking, state legislators must fashion a concealed carry law that answers some basics: What are the requirements for a permit? What kind of training? What areas should be off-limits to concealed carry?

“Sporting events, farmers markets, street fairs, there are so many places that people gather. We want to make sure that people can't carry at those,” Colleen Daley, Illinois Council Against Handgun Violence, said.

“It would be a recipe for disaster,” Forrest Claypool, CTA president, said.

You have to ‘think’ like a liberal.
Granted, if more people are armed, the chances of random, violent crime will drop sooner rather than later.

Now, if you take normal street crime away from petty thieves, that just puts more of ‘them’ out of work.

It will basically be the same premise as speed and red light cameras. If they do what they are designed to do - reduce speeding and red light running,— while it is a ‘good’ thing, in the mind of the people that supply the ‘safety’ equipment it is a bad thing, if people DON’T break the law, they go out of business, or at the least, don’t make any money..

Much the same reason the ‘War’ on terror, ‘War’ on drugs, ‘War’ on crime will NEVER end...too much money to be lost and the unemployment rate would skyrocket....

This comes closer to confirming what I suspected all along- when criminals get into elected office, they disarm the citizens to help other criminals operate.

I believe - no, I know - that criminals are very adept at scanning their surroundings for easy victims to act against, and also for the sort of person it is better not to mess with. Without a rather uncanny ability in this skill, Darwin makes sure they don’t last long.

I also know that people who carry concealed have a subtle something, a certain quiet air about them, a sober, settled quality they project that I’m convinced a criminal can pick up on.

I think the man’s fears are not about what might happen, but about what might not happen.

An armed society is a polite society.

So the presumption is that a responsible, armed civilian will kill another because of a petty theft?

I don’t think so...

I don’t own a car,
because i want MY money to go far.
I don’t ride a bicycle,
because the local hicks weave on the white lines!
I don’t walk, as far anymore,
because my PAD legs get sore.
I don’t take a cab,
because its 20 bucks to the country mile.

Soooo, all ye Chi-cah-go aldermen,
I ride my Louisiana ‘grandma shopping mall’
transit system, stay inside the parish,
with my license in my wallet, and either
off-the-body, or on-the-body, off I go!

The liberals still hate Bernard Goetz!

Long Live The Republic!
