Fox News Declares Ted Cruz Ineligible To Be POTUS Due To Birth In Canada [American Mother]

Now we are finally getting somewhere. Just like Obama is ineligible technically because his fathers British Nationality 'governed' his birth status in 1961, Ted Cruz is ineligible too. Fox News has confirmed it and rightly so. Sean Hannity made a huge blunder the other day and declared Ted Cruz a natural born citizen because he was born to a American mother in Canada. He was so wrong. Cruz is a 14th Amendment U.S. 'statutory' (not natural born) citizen which is something completely different than a Article 2 Section 1 Constitutional natural born Citizen which is explicitly designed only for the presidency by the framers.

Fox has become ridiculous.

Just change the "ah" to an "uh."

Rand is a decent and good quirky fellow, but you are correct.

Cruz is focused and dangerous.

Because breach of the law is not binding precedent. True, over the course of time, a law can be so completely ignored that it has no practical effect. For example, it is against the law to play cards on Sunday in Alabama. Good luck getting that one enforced. But it is still valid law.

And that’s the point. “Rule of law” means we treat everyone equally under the law and don’t make exceptions except by legal means (amending the Constitution, for example). I am not taking a position on the Cruz eligibility question. What I am saying is it delegitimizes all our lofty claims to be upset over Obama’s flagrant disregard of the law we say we cherish, if we turn around ourselves and disregard that same law for one of our own. That is devolving to a nation of men, not laws, and such lawlessness is the taproot of tyranny.

If our side is as willing to toss out the requirements of the Constitution, just so that our guy (who isn’t any more “qualified” than their guy was) can get in because we like him — what does that do for our argument as desiring to “protect the Constitution”?

THANK YOU!... and well said!

Let’s assume that we are in a Constitutional crisis over the Punk’s eligibility. Will the crisis deepen if Cruz, who was born to an American citizen, is elected? Positively not. If Americans elect him, I’ll be very proud to call him President. Bob

Yeah, but Canada is sort of America-Lite, except for Quebec.

"If Obama was not held to these standards, why do you and Fox want to crucify Cruz?"

Because we aren't crooked Democrats. The law is the law. I don't even know if this is all accurate, I'm too lazy to go look up the birth date and read the laws definition of "natural born" at that time. If he gets nominated to run for President, I'll take the time and do the homework. But, if he doesn't fit the description, then he is not eligible. Pretty simple.

If his mother was a citizen and his father was a citizen, then he is a natural born citizen. We conservatives have played this game with citizenship logic so much that this should be obvious. Instead, we end up with the absurd.

I can’t find his father’s name, but it appears the dad came to the US from Cuba in 1957. Cruz was born in 1970, so that gave the dad 13 years to gain US citizenship. His mother was born an American.

Cruz was born in Alberta Canada, and as far as I can tell, unless his parents renounced their US citizenship while there, then Ted Cruz is a natural born US citizen.

By the way I’m a Natural Born Citizen and if you elect me POTUS I’ll put Obama, Biden, his entire cabinet and czars, and Pelosi and reid in federal prison. So vote for me!

How many otherwise qualified children of people in the military or in missionary service would be ineligible for the Presidency?

Let me see if I understand. John McCain, a child of two U.S. citizens, born in Panama because his father was an admiral in the U.S. Navy and there due to orders, would not be eligible to be president?

If he were born on base, then some people feel that yes, he would be a natural born citizen.

If he were born elsewhere, then he would be a citizen, not a natural born citizen.

However, if we use the currently popular standard for natural born citizenship, then McCain would have also been a natural born citizen of Panama, just as many say an anchor baby or a child born here to illegal aliens is also a natural born citizen.

These days? As they used to say in the 70s while slowly exhaling, "It's whatever you want it to be, man. Whatever you want it to be." Onward through the fog!

I recall when my sis was born in Ramstein in the early 60’s and we learned in school that she was eligible to be P. It was a very big deal back then.

If both parents are US citizens (US passport holders only, not dual citizens) then the child is a natural born US citizen regardless of where the child was born. McCain is a NBC.
