On March 31st, Easter Sunday, Google posted as their logo-based 'Doodle' a picture honoring far-left union activist Cesar Chavez. This was done instead of honoring the most important Christian holiday in America. Predictably, this led to a large and vocal backlash of Christians and conservatives who were angered that Google paraded out a leftwing icon, rather than acknowledge their Holy Day.
The next day, on April Fools Day, I posted this thread, "Google Apologizes to Christians For Easter Cesar Chavez 'Doodle'". Sadly, it was an April Fools Joke.... and while I was delighted at the number of people I fooled, I was also appalled at Google's REAL response to the uproar, in which they defended the decision by saying it reserves the spot for historical figures and events... implying, of course, that Jesus was not historically relevant and that Easter was not a noteworthy event.
Said Samantha Smith, Google spokeschick, “We enjoy celebrating holidays at Google but, as you may imagine, it's difficult for us to choose which events to highlight on our site, and Sometimes for a given date, we feature an historical event or influential figure that we haven't in the past.” Yet, an exhaustive search of Google Doodles does not show any honoring of the historical, influential figure known as Jesus of Nazareth, so one is left to wonder how Samantha Smith's statement has any relation to this controversy.
The April Fools joke thread had a noteworthy, albiet fictional, line: The [apology] appeared to appease some high-profile Christian figures. "I'm not much of a fan of Google," remarked Cardinal Timothy Dolan, "but I appreciate their apology. It shows a sense of respect for Catholicism and Christianity."
If only. If only Google had showed the slightest modicum of respect for Christianity. Instead, they chose to shove their leftwing politics in the public's faces. As Malkin's Twitchy website put it, "Google’s Doodle logo overlords sure have a way of rubbing their politics in people’s noses.”
What started as an April Fools joke, became a demonstration of the uberpoliticking performed by the leftwing Google, and their Obama-esque 'doubling down' when caught in a huge poltical gaffe.

Personally, they can post whatever they want.
They are a business.
As I understand it, Bing, had Easter Eggs and I rather liked the touch.
There are other search engines and I think the market will dictate what is important and what is not.
Clearly, Google is a highly secular organization and they want to penetrate the largest number of markets, some of which are not Christ centered.
Hence, they don’t want to be seen as pushing one religion over another.
For me, I’ve been using a variety of search engines and am moving away from Google for their underhanded market tactics alone.
As the other search engines act in the same manner as Google I’ll move away from them as well.
No, I won’t say who I am using. I don’t want to debate philosiphies of Search Engines.
It’s like two IT guys arguing over Cisco or Juniper for core networks or over various strategies of protection down to the laptop and other other handheld devices.
Experiences and preferences.
But they WILL push a political agenda - for business purposes? How is that less controversial?
Use Bing.
USe outlook for mail.
Dont use Android.
Google is to the left of Obama.

25 years ago I was sending Christmas Cards to my customers and was warned by my boss to reconsider as there were many who did not celebrate Christmas and might be offended.
At the ripe old age of 24 I replied “Then they can move to a country were they won’t be offended. It’s Christmas, we are a majority Christian nation and I don’t think anyone but, self serving jerk, will be offended. In fact, I’m sure they’ll appreciate the gesture they same way I would if I were in India and someone sent me a card during their special holiday time, even though I know nothing about Indians.”
I sent em and still do. I can’t be moored by everyone’s beliefs and send some generic “holiday” card. To what holiday is anyone referring to that is held around the same time?

After the google debacle, I switched everything to Bing. Is Startpage better than that?
From what I understand, they're both private search engines, no tracking, no data mining, no customizing your emails to what you were searching for, and no record of your searches.
It also has an adjustment page so that you can customize the site to suit yourself.
