EMP – the unimaginable reality (Red Dawn?)
WND ^ | Arpil 5, 2013 | Joseph Farah

Exclusive: Joseph Farah warns of 'Red Dawn' scenario becoming real-life catastrophe

Have you seen “Red Dawn”?

I don’t mean the old movie starring the late Patrick Swayze.

It was good. But I’m talking about the more recent version.

I hesitated watching it for a long time, mainly because I thought the producers of the movie sold out when they opted to substitute a North Korean invasion of the U.S. for what was originally planned as a more likely Chinese invasion.

Supposedly they did so because the Chinese movie market was too lucrative to pass up.

But, having seen it recently, and having followed the news of recent weeks, I think the producers made the right choice.

Watch trailer here:

The new “Red Dawn” is worth seeing as it comes to pay-per-view and video rental release.

It’s not a bad action movie.

But, more than that, the tactic that facilitates a joint North Korean and Russian invasion of the U.S. is the one I would use if I were trying to take down the U.S. quickly and efficiently and inexpensively.

I won’t ruin the movie for you by telling you the invaders use what is described in the script as a “new weapon.”

It’s actually not new at all. It’s relatively old technology called an “electro-magnetic pulse.” The power of an EMP attack was first recognized during the Cold War era. It’s a power that has the potential to defeat overnight America’s strength – technology.

And that’s exactly what happens in the new “Red Dawn.”

If I were the lunatic Kim Jong-un, it’s how I would use at least one of my nine nuclear weapons in taking down the U.S. – something he threatens to do on nearly a daily basis now.

As F. Michael Maloof explains so adeptly

If they try to use one I think they would detonate over east or west coast population centers...more bang 4 the buck.

Cover your house with bacon.

You will still die, but at least you will have nice smells to die to.

Agree. But the author of the book does not know what he is talking about.

This is a serious threat, but not the entire nation....

what if the blast is a bit closer, and your house is scattered to the wind in a million tiny pieces?

Then we are going to miss poor Ansel's atoms. I know I will.

no not the whole nation, but imagine if they just did it to the center circle on this map.

Now consider the response that the government had for Katrina and Sandy. Now tell me how long before that circle becomes hell on earth?

Someone posted this link a day or two ago that let's you track it in real time.

If you click on the "5 day predictions" link, you can see when it's scheduled to pass over your house. It's a great time-waster. lol.

The movie quickly died and now can be found on any sharing site. Most of the people on the file sharing sites don’t even like it.

You are badly mistaken.

http://www.empcommission.org/docs/empc_exec_rpt.pdf

And to the naysayers - you don’t have to wipe out the “whole electrical grid” or anything remotely close to it. Let’s just say you scramble the brains of 10% of the ATM machines, or make it impossible for 10% of credit card transactions to be validated. Think about how many cars are going to be backed-up at gas stations, how quickly people are going to panic with even that level of inconvenience after what happened with Katrina and Sandy.

EMP itself isn’t the killer, it’s what will happen in a developed nation afterward. What we do to each other.

Yes, read “One Second After” rather than watch crap like Red Dawn.

While the early atom bombs and EMP effects were significant, although the electronics and technology were of a primitive state, comparatively speaking) rarity and stage of development that they were far less susceptible to EMP, research since then has focused on those incidental effects, and learned to concentrate on the EMP effect itself.

As the world of electronics has become like water to us, yet at the same time almost designed to be susceptible to EMP effects, the world has been working on how to extract the EMP effect from the building and people destroying effect of the nuclear weapons.

There is a lot of disagreement about how much of an effect, but we know that it will be significant, we know that many nations are developing weapons based on the effect, and that America itself is making big advances in that area of technological warfare, which is strong evidence that EMP must be real.

In fact we know that it is real, we just don’t know the variables of the weapons, delivery, various electrical systems and at what level, distance, etc. and so on.

“Haha. Weirdly, I watched this last night. A little better than people gave it credit for.”

I will have to agree. One of my neighbors here in L.A. was on the second unit of that production co. here in L.A. and he gave me a copy of the BR. It’s actually better than I anticipated and recommend it.

I still do not believe that the coverage is anything like that map.

Field density is very hard to project and there is no reliable data to support the article.

It may be that 500 miles is an overstate.

Very few electronics today would be effected by an emp. It was an extremely rare event when they tested the first bombs. And now it would be even rarer.Just plain old scare tactics.

You are very new here. I will go easy on you. What?

Ok lets say it only knocks out only half the radius shown. In the right metropolitan corridor. I again ask you how long before first responders are over whelmed and the area becomes Hell on earth?

“10% of the ATM machines”

OK that is more like it. The damage will not be predictable. Depends on pulse duration, peak impulse, height above ground. And it is a point emitter and distance and incidence to ground will vary with at each point. The idea that you have a cone of destruction that covers 1/3 of the US is nonsense.

Yes, large cities near the pulse source would be a nightmare.
