An Alaska-based military policeman will serve 16 years in prison and will be dishonorably discharged for selling secrets to an FBI undercover agent who he believed was a Russian spy, a panel of eight military members has decided.

Spec. William Colton Millay of Owensboro, Ky., pleaded guilty last month to attempted espionage and other counts. He was sentenced Monday.

Military prosecutors painted him as a white supremacist who was fed up with the Army and the United States, and was willing to sell secrets to an enemy agent, even if that would cost fellow soldiers their lives.

Defense attorneys said Millay was emotionally stunted, was only seeking attention and was a candidate for rehabilitation.

Monday's proceedings were like a mini-trial conducted in front of the sentencing panel, with both sides calling two witnesses.

The Government has ordered 1.6 Billion bullets.

Would it be too hard on them to sacrifice about a dozen for this traitors execution?

"...who he believed was a Russian spy..."

The guy is an idiot also. The "Russians" don't buy secrets anymore. They get them all free from EU middlemen.
Now the Chinese...well...that's another story...

During a more honorable time in America, this guy would have been executed for treason without delay.

Sell secrets? Hell, just listen to the lame stream media and you can get all the free information you want. Odumbo’s crew often blurts stuff that most people don’t even realize are “secrets”.

My guess is that he was identified through monitoring (emails, internet, etc.) as a white supremacist, and THEN stung. IOW, they wanted to get him, and the FBI plant approached this guy first. It is ludicrous to believe that an MP had any worthwhile information in the first place, and highly unlikely he’d have had the intiative to approach someone he thought was Russian.

I call BS.

The traitor confessed. He contacted a Russian publisher and the Russian embassy *before* the FBI set up the sting. His attorney put up essentially no defense. He is very lucky to get only 16 years.

“He is very lucky to get only 16 years.”

I agree. He also received a Dishonorable Discharge, reduction in grade to E-1, and forfeiture of all pay and allowances. I can't remember where I read it, but once I read that all pay and allowances forfeited as a result of a Courts-Martial are used to fund the Old Soldiers Home.
