C-Span putting Benghazi on C-SPAN3
5/8/13 | mazda77

Posted on 05/08/2013 4:17:55 AM PDT by mazda77

I just sent the following to viewer@c-apan.org

With all due respect, does your organization, paid for by our tax dollars, honestly think the South Korean Presidents speech is more important than the Benghazi hearings? HONESTLY!?

Put her on 3 and elevate the hearings to either C-Span or C-Span2 where most people are able to see it on their televisions. Of utmost concern, is your access to the bandwidth necessary to eliminate cutouts and drop-offs. DirecTV only has 1 and 2 on their lineup and from what I am told is the case for most other cable providers, without having to buy additional premium services.

Put the hearings where the most people can watch them, easily!

If true, it’s pretty lousy. I don’t have access to CSPAN 3. Like most folks, my cable deal is fairly limited with just one hundred channels.

Might be time for people to just demand CSPAN shut down. They can’t be fair and objective about this mess.

I understand your point, but you CAN watch it at http://www.c-span.org/Live-Video/C-SPAN3/ if you have a decent net connection.

The point is limiting viewer access.

I appreciate the outrage, but a couple points. One: C-SPAN gets no tax dollars. It is paid for by cable TV operators.

Two: C-SPAN is obligated to cover the House whenever it is in session. The same with the Senate on C-SPAN 2.

They created C-SPAN3 to be able to show important hearings like this one when Congress was in session. They will likely show it on the other C-SPANS later in the day.

Fox News has said they will broadcast the hearing.

C-span is a leftist operation, run by leftists, do you expect them to not do what leftists do?

I wrote; “Of utmost concern, is your access to the bandwidth necessary to eliminate cutouts and drop-offs.”

Are my concerns that the same problems the NRA had would also not be experienced trying to view it online or streaming? In addition to limiting the access, could they also be accomplishing the same with constant buffering which then makes it unwatchable?

I remember watching the Watergate hearings in 1973. I think it was just about this time of year, too, so it is almost exactly 40 years ago. But the three networks preempted their schedules to broadcast the hearings live. That was before cable so no CNN, C-SPAN or any of that. If you turned on the TV or radio or looked at a newspaper it was Watergate. After Nixon’s big landslide victory in 1972 the media were salivating at the opportunity presented by this emerging scandal. The misdeeds of the Nixon crew were trivial compared to the Benghazi mess. We will see if the media coverage of Benghazi is trivial compared to coverage of Watergate.

And cable providers get their revenue from where? Our revenues are then sent to support C-SPAN because of what broadcast license?

Sounds like that argument that politicians single out those corporations which they must tax more. Corporations don’t pay taxes, they just collect them before forwarding them off to the government.

Same thing here. I will guarantee you there is a tax somewhere in your cable bill that goes to support C-SPAN.
