Several counties want to secede from Colorado

Several Colorado counties that strongly oppose increased regulation of the oil and gas industry say they want to form their own state.
They are planning on calling it North Colorado or Northern Colorado, reports CBS affiliate KCNC in Denver.
The counties are frustrated with the new agricultural and energy bills that have recently been signed into law.
"We really feel in northern and northeastern Colorado that we are ignored -- citizens' concerns are ignored, and we truly feel disenfranchised," Weld County Commissioner Sean Conway said.
Conway said the new laws don't support the interests of the northern part of the state, which is rich in agricultural history. Conway said that's why he and others are proposing to break away from Colorado to form a new state.
"This is not a stunt. This is a very serious deliberative discussion that's going on," he said. "There's a real feeling that a lot of folks who come from the urban areas don't appreciate the contribution that many Coloradans contribute."
Parts of Nebraska are also apparently interested in joining in on what would be a new state.
Conway says five of the current 50 states were created through a similar process. He says the proposal is "likely" to end up on a Colorado ballot this fall.
"The whole purpose of doing this is to preserve an agricultural way of life and to protect the energy sector, that we feel is very much under assault," Conway said.

States that refuse to utilize what is at their disposal should have to pay a substantial tax in imported fuels and materials.
Ain’t gonna happen. What it will do is increase the awareness of the lo-info types. I’m from Jefferson(Calif).
Just a few more and Obama’s number state visits will have been right on target.
I’d want to secede too with the pedophile-enabler in the House, and the gun-grabber in the governorship.
Won’t happen. If they were given some green-light....there at least fifteen other regions in the US that would demand the same right. The logic against it will be the Senate count. No one wants to mess with the mythical balance that we have currently. Even allowing the talk over Puerto Rico...is giving folks nervous feelings. Talk up Guam next?
They pretty much all have "pledged". The furniture in our govt buildings are nice and shiny.
Hey it's still the finest form of representative govt that Saudi oil money can buy!
Going back a bit further, in 1861, east Tennessee almost seceded from the rest of the state when Tennessee joined the Confederacy. (Most east Tennesseans were pro-Union, whereas most west Tennesseans were pro-Confederacy, and a slight majority of middle Tennesseans were pro-Confederacy also.) In fact, the western portion of Virginia did secede from the rest of the state, thereby forming the new state of West Virginia. So this hardly seems like a jaw-dropping idea...
Solution: Abolish compulsory socialist-entitlement K-12 schooling ( misnamed “Public Schooling”)
PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE see the Yuri Besmenov tapes. Our nation has already been “demoralized” and is ripe for “destablization”. Government compulsory schooling has been a MAJOR MAJOR MAJOR player in this demoralization.
The very source of our liberal/Marxist created problems stem from having compulsory, single-payer, godless, and socialist-entitlement schooling.
Our nation's children have been attending progressive single-payer, compulsory, and socialist-entitlement schooling since the mid-1800s to early 1900s. It only took one to three generations of this indoctrination to give the nation Woodrow Wilson and Franklin D. Roosevelt.
Progressives since th 1800s have **always** controlled teacher training and curriculum development. They have always been pushing at the edges of society's moral toleration. They have **always** been sympathetic to centralized government control of the lives of citizens. They welcomed communism and are joined at the hip with Marxism and Marxists.
While I like the idea, as long as the Dems control the State, it will never happen. The Dems know that state will be conservative and they dont want another state that will vote against their agenda.
Can you imagine if this happened? Many liberals in Alabama could say feel disenfranchised. It would be a mess!
Hmmm...thinking about the two counties here in Jersey where I live and spend most of my time. We could build a nice little border wall, with checkpoints on Rt. I-195 and the Garden State Parkway exits...
Wow. If they could pull that off sans kolorado’s approval, maybe kommiefornia could do likewise. I’d love to see northern kal (viz. the Sierras) become their own state that supports the 2nd Amendment and has reasonable taxes.
Not only won’t it happen, it can’t happen - the Constitution prohibits carving a new state out of another state. A constitutional amendment would have to happen first, and it won’t.
Aint noboby got time for that!
In DC on either side of the aisle.
Anything below Trenton...........
Thanks Sub-Driver.
I’ll correct my earlier post before someone does it for me - you CAN form a new state within an existing state, or from parts of more than one state, but ONLY of the state legislatures of any involved states approve AND if Congress approves. (Article IV, Section 3) But - again - that is not going to happen.
It only took 14 posts before you came up with the correct answer. Too bad, it is against the Constitution or we would have seen Washington split into two pieces long ago. Washington would benefit from spinning Seattle/Pugetopolis off, (preferably into the Straight of Juan De Fuca!)
Jeff Stone, supervisor of Riverside County, California, is trying to form “South California”. It would include all the southern counties EXCEPT for Los Angeles County. We all know it won’t happen though, and everyone on both sides of the debate knows why.
