Expert warns terrorists may be setting wildfires across American West
Washington Examiner ^ | June 16, 2013 | MARK TAPSCOTT

Dr. Rachel Ehrenfeld of the New York-based American Center for Democracy's Economic Warfare Institute warns that last July "al-Qaeda's English-language online magazine, Inspire, published an article called 'It Is of Your Freedom to Ignite a Firebomb,' which featured instructions on how to build an incendiary bomb to light forests on fire.

"A few months later, Russia's security (FSB) chief, Aleksandr Bortnikov warned, 'al-Qaeda was complicit in recent forest fires in Europe' as part of the terrorists' 'strategy of a thousand cuts.' Bortnikov spoke of 'extremist sites [that] contained detailed instructions of waging the forest jihad and stressed that such a method had proved itself effective as it inflicted both physical and moral damage, needed little training or investment and it was extremely hard for police to find and apprehend the arsonists.'

“Tea Party folks with Bic lighters?”

Nah, not a Bic lighter... “fire and brimstone”.

Didn’t work for the Japanese, but that was back in the day when we didn’t have 15 newspapers waiting to blab about every development in the war.

With so much forest we should let it burn, there is no way to mitigate that much woodland.

Sure there is, but not the way government does it. In just one instance, there is enough fuel in "our" national forests to provide electrical power for over 100 million Americans. Portable gasifiers are being developed right now for that purpose.

People can clear their properties but that does little when a fire 1/4 mile or 1/2 away is throwing embers onto windows and roofs.

Around here it can be two miles. It's doable, and believe me, the land around here is plenty rugged. As to roofs, tile works fine. So does steel. Screen the gutters or keep them clean. As to windows, besides tempered and annealed glass, ever heard of storm shutters? I have 1-1/2" standpipes all over on gravity feed. Sheesh.

Give me an hour with a chainsaw, a drip torch, and a hose and my house will be fine (the slopes below it are 150% too). You see, I manage the fuel. You can tell the difference between my property and everything around it from GoogleEarth at five miles in altitude. There is space between the trees here, with lush native groundcovers. The brush gets topped and thinned periodically. It's doable.

Might as well live in a city where everything is cleared too. I bet your house looks like some around here: The suburb look. No trees and a manicured lawn.

Might be accidental, might be arson. My daughter lives in Black Forest and she says it's been dry as a popcorn fart in Black Forest for a long, long time.

It doesn't take but one, small spark.

The heat from fires also causes structures to explode with the heat. It is amazing to watch that happen, but houses explode into flames. Face it: If you live in the woods the woods some day will burn and so will your house. I live in a heavily wooded forest in the Rockies and we plan for total destruction. We will have everything out of the house we want to keep and the rest is to rebuild. Expecting to beat Mother Nature is simply childish fantasy.

It's not, idiot.

Nope. Dead wrong again. I have been told by several experts in the field that our property is the finest native plant restoration in the Western United States. It is home to 361 species of vascular plants, a project that has spanned some 25 years. It has woodlands of several types, chaparral, conifer forest, and Santa Cruz Sandhill habitat. There are university professors in restoration ecology, botany, geology, and forestry who have driven hundreds of miles just to see it.

Screw you, idiot. I work way too hard to deserve comments like that from someone who knows NOTHING of my 13 year posting history here.

And of course, in some forest fires, such as in Greece a couple years back, we could literally watch realtime sats following new flame points pop up.

In circlements.

Around human settlements.

In Israel, the palestinians have been bragging of the death toll.

In Indonesia, they literally burned the whole country to the ground.

What does “may” be setting fires mean? The expert should just put in a call to NSA for certainty. They assure me that they are right on top of the terrorists.

I swear this begins to look more like 1984 every day.

All “news” are passed by the white hive to make sure a lot of people don’t know the collusion and/or incompetence is cleansed and responsibility is attributed to anyone but their ilk.

The only tool available to control the damage a fire can do is to manage the fuel.”

How about changing the fuel to jihadists - enhanced with a little gasoline ?

Let’s do that out in the sands, maybe outside Vegas for a nice fire show.
