Who is funding the efforts to get ex-felons registered to vote in Virginia? Apparently its the George Soros-funded Tides Foundation. The foundation has long supported felony rights restoration by writing large checks to groups that work with states to register former felons. In the past, the foundation set up the Civic Participation Fund, which was aimed at aiding social-change organizations focused in new-majority communities that need money, and need it fast, the Tides website says. The fund, formerly known as the Voter Action Fund, granted more than $8 million to advocacy groups working to address the legal, procedural, and technological barriers to electoral participation. Two groups that have received funding from Tides Advancement Project and the Virginia New Majority are working with Virginia officials to restore felons voting rights, according to documents provided by the D.C.-based Capital Research Center, a nonprofit that focuses on the politics behind nonprofit operations. The groups also are working to register the newly enfranchised voters by November, when Virginians will select a new governor, lieutenant governor and attorney general. House of Delegates seats are also up for grabs.

Soros of course
What does Soros really want and why?
The purpose of prison was that a guy committed a crime, and then paid for it with prison time. I could understand the logic of denying him or her the right to vote while in prison. But once you leave prison? And the silly side of this is that he can pack and leave the state...moving to a state where he’s got the right, and thirty years into the future....return to his original state to find that he loses his right to vote upon establishing a residence. If this makes sense, then he ought to lose the right to pay taxes as well.
Obama had something to do with them.
I have no problem with this; including the fact that Soros is funding it.
If a felon has done his time, he/she should be able to vote, own a firearm, etc.
Some supposed conservatives just love the notion of punishing a person for life. If somebody is that dangerous, they should be in jail or dead.
Just remember: this Nation was settled by Puritans - and their descendants are still trying to govern every aspect of life.
Well, once we can be jailed as felons for our political views, the purpose will be “reeducation” so we can be returned to society vote the “correct” way.
I agree with the other posters. Where is the incentive to get your life straight, if you are still being punished in several ways? Wouldn’t that make one rather bitter and angry? Hard to find a job because you have a record, and can’t vote or own a gun? Just on principle it doesn’t make sense and is wrong, you do your time, then you rejoin society. Justice should be swift and fair (not months or years before a court date) and once it’s over you are a free man again.
Someone else said about taxes- if you can’t vote (only because of felony record), how can you be taxed? How is that a constitutional law?
Of course felons who did their time have a right to vote. The problem is that Soros is actively collecting and registering these voters obviously for his own purposes.
These are the same people who go to retirement homes and buy votes, hundreds at a time. Of senior citizens have a right to vote, but their votes are being made by other people via absentee ballot, and there is no way to verify or even complain about it.
“Of course felons who did their time have a right to vote. “
Maybe in the moral or ethical sense, but a felon’s right to vote has to be restored by the Commonwealth before he or she can vote in The Old Dominion.

This isn’t an issue of societal rights, it’s an issue of voter fraud. The felons data is collected, and voting is done for them via absentee ballot, or manipulated by providing cell phones, breakfast etc. for early voting, for candidate of their choice. It is one of the reasons there were so many duplicate votes in the last election. There is no way to check or verify votes.
In South Florida, and all over the country, managers/owners of nursing homes sell the votes of their clients, even dead ones. If I’m not mistaken, they pay as much as $100 per vote. They have all the seniors information. Not sure exactly how it works, but the only reason the schemes were found in So. Fl, is because crooks turned informants told police, or a relative found out. Nothing is ever done about it. This is what they intend to do with the felons, they may have more willing participants, but with the incentives they give them (cell phones etc.), it amounts to voter fraud.

I was an employee of a state mental health hospital for 10 years and repeatedly saw the employees take absentee ballots to the patients. They’d say “Do you like Bill Clinton?” They’d respond “UHH< UHH, UHH..” “OK, then! I’ll record your vote.” If you would ask them “Would you like to eat poop?” you would get the same response “UH, UH, UH...” but they didn’t serve them. I reported this but nothing was ever done. That meant over sixty five thousand votes for the Democrat.
65k votes from mental health patients in one state, 1.7 million bed ridden seniors in nursing homes across the country, and over 4 million ex felons. The government has data on all of them, not a difficult task to herd them together for voting efforts.
That’s why I would not be in favor of an automatic restoration of voting rights following the release from prison.
...”What does Soros really want and why?”...
He is so old, one would think he would be worrying about where he will spend eternity.
The number of mental health patients residing in facilitated care is actually close to a million, almost 2 million people in nursing homes, and 4 million ex felons, that’s a lot of potential voter fraud. This is why so many dead people end up voting. They have personal data for voting purposes, but don’t get updates to purge records, if say an ex con gets shot and dies.
When I personally delivered my elderly in laws absentee ballots to my precinct, they wouldn’t accept them. Why were my elderly in laws, who are disabled, denied their voting rights?
Obama won the last election by 4 M votes.
This makes great sense to me. I have great respect for the nation's Constitution and due process.
The 5th Amendment includes this protected right ... nor be deprived of life, liberty, or property, without due process of law;
Due process, and only due process, allows the state to deny a convicted individual his rights. Once a convicted individual has paid his debt to society his rights should be restored.
