George Zimmerman 'hoped recording of Trayvon Martin fight would exonerate him'
The London Telegraph ^ | July 2, 2013 | Jon Swaine, New York

George Zimmerman, the neighbourhood watch captain accused of murdering Trayvon Martin, was "elated" that their fight might have been recorded on video, as he believed it would exonerate him, a court has heard.

Mr Zimmerman was shocked to learn that he had killed Trayvon Martin and told police that it was "always wrong to kill someone" according to his Roman Catholic faith, detectives told the jury in his trial.

Mr Zimmerman, 29, is charged with the second-degree murder of Trayvon, a black 17-year-old returning from the supermarket to a house he was visiting in Mr Zimmerman's gated estate, in February 2012.

A 44-day delay last year before the arrest of Mr Zimmerman, who is half-Peruvian, led to allegations of police racism, protests around the US and an intervention from President Barack Obama.

Mr Zimmerman, who says he was following Trayvon as he suspected him of preparing to commit a crime, denies murder and claims that he shot the teenager in self-defence after being violently attacked.

A recording of a police interview played to the court showed Detective Chris Serino telling him: "There's a possibility that whatever happened between you and him is caught on videotape." "I prayed to God that someone videotaped it," said Mr Zimmerman, "or the neighborhood had put up a video camera that I didn't know about".

Detective Serino told the court that the defendant seemed "very elated" at the prospect. "Either he was telling the truth or he was a complete pathological liar," he said, adding that he did in fact believe him....

Most of this looks to be pointing towards the defense's version. And why do we have to hear the more important facts from the foreign press?

When Trayvon’s father first heard the recording of the scream, he said, “That’s not Trayvon’s voice.”

Detective Chris Serino telling him: "There's a possibility that whatever happened between you and him is caught on videotape."

A reminder that it's SOP for cops to just make up whatever lies they want.

...it was "always wrong to kill someone" according to his Roman Catholic faith,...i

I'm not a translator and don't know the Hebrew language. So can anybody explain why English Roman Catholic Bible versions used the kill sense of Hebrew word (ratsach) in 5th Commandment when other senses of that Hebrew word clearly indicate murder?

Yup,I heard that.IMO it’s huge.Talking to the cops without a lawyer present? How many of those actually guilty of murder...or any serious crime...do that? Only an innocent person does that.Only an innocent person expresses hope that photos/videos of an incident were taken to prove his innocence.

But we don't know how smart...how brave...or how unbiased the jurors are.We *do* know that the prosecution wanted a mirror image of the OJ jury.Did they get what they wanted? Time will tell.

I wonder if there is any NSA recording of this fight. Ain’t they snooping the streets and phones and internet? I guess if Obdinga had anything to support his son Trayvon it would be all over the compliant press by now. Maybe the forgery press will manufacture something to nail Zimmerman. Oh! They already tried that.

Because.... they can't be audited by the IRS ?

guilty people, on hearing they were recorded, do not say thank god somebody recorded what happened. all the witnesses agreeing with zimmerman’s account of what happened show he’s not a pathological liar, so his expression was one of an guy telling the truth.

I think we all agree that if George Zimmerman is exonerated, as he should be, that the blacks will riot.

Now here is my question, if George Zimmerman is found guilty, which would really be a travesty of justice, will Hispanics riot?

I think it would just go to show how biased America is against Hispanics, and that they just need to be made citizens already. /sarc (But you KNOW someone will bring that up).

I am trying to figure out the credibility of the people involved.
1. Trayvon’s future step brother calls him and Trayvon says he is on his way home. Future step brother calls Trayvon again and does not get an answer; but does not seemed concerned because he never tried to contact him again or anyone else. At least that we know of.
2. Friend RJ is on the phone with Trayvon and says Trayvon is concerned and she hears a hard breathing man approaching him, hears a bump and wet grass and the phone cuts out. When asked why she didn’t do anything when she couldn’t reach Trayvon again; her response was he said he would call me back or I would call him back. That is two different stories.
3. Dad and girlfriend come home and Trayvon is not there. No concern again? Finally about 8:30am the next day Dad calls to file a missing persons report and says he last saw Trayvon at about 8:30pm the night before; Trayvon does not know anyone in the area. Then he does an interview with People magazine and says he thought he was with a nephew at the movies? In the taped recording he said Trayvon didn’t know anyone in the area.
If your 17 year old was not home when they should be, wouldn’t you make as many calls as needed to find out where they are?

George has told the same story over and over again with very little differences.

The one thing that I am not clear on however, is the fact that GZ says he had TM face down with his hands spread out on the ground. But have also heard that TM was found face down with his hands beneath him. Not sure how his hands would be beneath him if GZ was restraining him with hands spread out.

Could TM position changed when the officer lifted him up to look for the bullets exit? Not sure.

Any insight on this?

“Not sure how his hands would be beneath him if GZ was restraining him with hands spread out.”

I think it was in the testimony to Sernio that Z says he restrained him, then the guy with the flashlight came up. Z thought it was the cops (who he called) and got up off of Martin as he figured the “cop” would deal with him. And then I think a real cop did show up in a minute or two.

I’m guessing Z restrained Martin and after a little bit realized that he wasn’t putting up a struggle, trying to flee, etc. so got up to let the “cop” deal with it. And then, after seeing it wasn’t a cop, but also seeing that Martin wasn’t going anywhere - didn’t restrain him further. But Martin still had enough in him to pull his hands to his chest wound. Speculation I know. Not sure I would phrase it like this to the jury. No matter how much of a punk - the actions and thoughts going through someone as they die makes even me a bit sympathetic to them to a certain degree.

I agree but “a possibility” isnt a lie. You can find personal cameras in almost every neighborhood and almost everyone has a camera phone so there indeed was “a possibility” during that time in the investigation.

This Serino is a real piece of work.

Even after a full year of listening to the NEN call he still testified that GZ was told not to follow while he was still in the car — even though he was there at the reenactment when GZ told them specifically that he was at the T when told that.

And then he says that there was evidence that he followed him afterwards. When asked to name the evidence he says the location of the altercation. What???

And this was the lead investigator. A year later and he still can’t get his facts straight.

No. I expect random beat-downs (AKA "The Knock-out Game") will become gradually more prevalent as the feral youts come to understand they cannot be defended against. Areas of oppressive gun control laws will be hardest hit.

I’m confused a little about this reenactment. Did they show it unedited, or did they just show bits and pieces? It’s not a very good reenactment it if just the Cliff’s Notes version.

Semantics. Serino knew of no video, but told Zimmerman there was “a possibility” in order to elicit a response. That’s a lie, a kind one can expect in a police “interview.”

Hispanics will not, IMO. Those blacks who are itching to riot, will do so in celebration.

The King James Bible has "Thou shalt not kill" (Exodus 20.13; Deuteronomy 5.17). That is a Protestant translation.

The Septuagint renders the Hebrew with ou phoneuseis--(phoneuo is translated as "murder," "kill," "slay").
