House Republicans want the IRS to pay for targeting political groups and are pushing legislation that would cut the tax collecting agencys budget by $3 billion -- nearly a quarter of what it received last fiscal year.
The House Appropriations Committee is scheduled to start marking up the spending bill Wednesday.
While its unlikely that such a severe cut will pass both congressional chambers, it does give lawmakers another opportunity to verbally punish the agency for unfairly scrutinizing conservative groups applying for tax-exempt status.
The bill would place additional restrictions on spending at the IRS and prohibit employees from implementing the individual mandate in the Affordable Care Act commonly referred to as ObamaCare. It also bans conferences, the production of videos and curbs what lawmakers see as a number of abuses at the IRS.

Not too little; let’s just hope it’s not too late.
Here is some Republican kabuki theater to convince the masses they are an opposition party, by creating a noisy bill that will go nowhere.
The pubbies could make the bill go somewhere if they had a pair. Tell the Senate - it is a 25% cut or nothing. Nothing being no funding at all for the IRS....red
I’m afraid your correct. Like any organization, I am sure the IRS has many, many good people. Until the tax code is reformed, threats of cutting 25% is Kabuki theatre. Reform and oversight would be much more effective.
Cutting 24% is a good start, particularly if they can do it again next year.
I have an EVEN BETTER idea.
Let’s cut the other 76%, too.

They probably have some good people, but govt. overall is disproportionately Affirmative Action hires that do not have to work much to get their paycheck. The IRS is probably like all the others, minorities shuffling around, drinking coffee and surfing the Internet, while the actual work is done by contracted help.
That would require the Pubs to truly be an opposition political party. They are not, they are in league with the Dems and mostly just pretending.
Maybe citizens aren’t thrilled with the hundreds of thousands of dollars spent on IRS parties...
The budget should be cut by 100%. It’ll never happen. The irs is a great big welfare-disguised-as-work agency.
Won't surprise me if, by the time it's all said and done, the IRS budget grows 35% and the GOP tells us it was some sort of "necessary compromise."
With the IRS in charge of Obama’care,’ the United States of America will become totally controlled by corrupt politicians at the Federal level, IOW we will be a Communist State.
We need to create as much civil disobedience as legally possible, because our sorry RINOs will not Impeach Obama for violations of the US Constitution or Dereliction of Duty.
Communist Tyrant B. Hussein Obama has no intention of allowing the US Congress to interfere with Obamas selective implementation of the Anti-Trust violations of Obamacare.
Obama will use HIS Bureaus, HIS Executive Orders, and HIS Military to preserve, protect and defend Obamacare in order to insure the complete financial destruction of The United States of America, by Fundamentally changing the United States of America.
24% is a good start. It should be announced if there is another incident of a conservative group being targeted it will be ANOTHER 24% until compliance with the law is achieved.
Thanks grundle.
