Warning If you, your kids or grand kids take pics from your phoneWATCH THIS: YOUTUBE: Smartphone pictures pose privacy risks
Paranoia runs deep.
They can probably turn on your camera without you knowing it too. If you don’t want it seen, never take the picture. If you don’t want something read, never write it down. If you don’t want something heard, never say it. Simple rules.
Just because you’re paranoid, it doesn’t mean they’re not out to get you..., or your children.
I knew the tagging of the image location was there, but I hadn’t considered how this could be used to harm individuals. I should have.
Just make sure the geotagging feature is turned off on your cell phone’s camera. I think it’s ridiculous that Facebook doesn’t automatically strip the location from the metadata of images posted on its site. They have always processed images to reduce resolution and file size. It’s just as easy to remove all metadata.

It’s pretty easy to find anyone these days. If you take a picture of someone at a given location, it doesn’t ensure they will be there.
ALL FREEPERS!
If you are not keeping up on the latest social network fads, and your kids use them, you are not protecting them.
My wife and I are behind the curve on Instagram, Facetime, twitter, etc. (there are a lot of them) and on an I-Pod, not even a smart phone. I recommend that all parents routinely “Audit” their children’s social network activity and accounts. It’s usually not our children that you should worry about. It’s their friends and contacts and what they post and send that would mortify you if you knew your kids had access to them. Worse, you would be surprised at how many creeps are out there that seek out gradeschool girls (This has happened to my very mature 12 year old daughter once).
We have a rule in our house. There is no right of privacy for children in our house. We “give” you privacy as we see fit. We have all access and passwords to all devices (which are very few - e-mail and I-pod only). And we audit them weekly. My daughter has not done anything objectionable yet that I am aware of. But she has been grounded twice for not telling us when a contact “misbehave”. In one case she commented on something she had no business having access too.
This is just the safety side of things. You should see the cyber bullying these kids to to each other.
Gen-Xers and Boomers beware. Don’t fall behind on these technologies. It’s for the sake of your kids to give them guidance.

This is how PC security tycoon John McAfee was caught and arrested. You'd think that someone who started a company that made antivirus and internet security software would have been more aware of the security risks of cell phone cameras.

Not if the NSA tells them to keep it.
Thanks
I was skeptical of this so I went to my free email and pulled off a couple of my iphone pics I sent (sent items email) to a friend and yes under ‘properties>details’ there is definitely a GPS location. It also identifies the phone as from Iphone 5 and the date.
And there is a control there that allows me to ‘remove properties and personal information’.
Have to keep this in mind good to know.
The pictures I been posting online I have no problem with that info being on there.
And I dont post any personal info online including personal pictures anyway (like my house etc) but its still good to know.
If the NSA wants the medadata, Facebook could keep that separately without posting it online. Alternatively, they could encrypt the metadata so only the NSA could read it.
Thanks for the info.
Indeed. And in simpler times it was "Never write a letter and never destroy one." - Cardinal Richelieu.
On iphone settings>location services you can turn off the GPS position going to any phone app or function including the camera so that GPS position never gets onto the photos.
Who needs that info on pictures anyway?
That’s undoubtedly true. The problem is, all you have to do is find one location that they do frequent, for there to be a problem.
I used to wonder how these guys knew which room a kid slept in. Now I know. Frankly I’m not sure they narrow it down by that much, but it sure does give you cause to be concerned.
Yes you would wouldn’t you.
