Almost immediately after Obamacare passed, I started pushing the idea of cutting off the funds for it in the House. It got a little traction at the time and I went so far as to ask all four of the GOP’s top leaders in the House if they’d support cutting off the funds for Obamacare.
Here’s what they had to say back in July of 2010.
We are going to fight to repeal this government takeover of health care and start over with solutions that focus first on lowering costs. Cutting off funding for ObamaCare is absolutely something I support. For example, I would support moving as soon as possible to deny any funding for the estimated 16,500 IRS employees that will be needed to implement ObamaCare. House Republicans will continue to stand with the American people against this unconstitutional government takeover of health care. John Boehner
Yes, without question. Republicans will use every tool available to us to repeal the harmful law. Even in the minority, House Republicans have forced votes to immediately repeal some of the most egregious provisions of the law, including a vote to repeal the individual mandate. Eric Cantor
Congress holds the power of the purse, and yes, I will support all efforts to cut off funding for ObamaCare. The Democrats government takeover of health care will kill jobs, infringe on individual liberty, and it fails to contain costs. Mike Pence
If we are successful in repealing ObamaCare and Im going to work my heart out to repeal it that would automatically by definition cut off the increased, out-of-control spending in the Obama-Pelosi health care bill. As House Republicans constantly told President Obama and Speaker Pelosi We need to start over. Once were back at Square One the way things were before ObamaCare we can begin a better process focused on smaller reforms that can gain bipartisan support -medical liability reform, enabling small businesses to pool together to purchase health insurance, allowing insurance to be purchased across state lines, etc. Cathy McMorris Rodgers
At the time, I noted Cathy McMorris Rodgers “punted” on the question, but when I ran into her at at the 2010 Smart Girl Summit in September of that year, she personally told me that despite her somewhat ambiguous answer, she was very much in favor of defunding Obamacare.

Today, Mike Pence is the Governor of Indiana, but John Boehner is the Speaker of the House, Eric Cantor is the Majority Leader, Cathy McMorris Rogers is the Republican Conference Chairman and conservatives across the country are calling on them to fulfill the promises they made back in 2010. The effort is almost certainly doomed to failure in the Senate, where weak leadership and a less conservative caucus will make it very difficult for the GOP to hang in for the long haul. However, if the GOP leadership is united in favor of the tactic, it could conceivably work in the House.
In 2010, John Boehner, Eric Cantor and Cathy McMorris Rogers said they’d stand tall if this day ever came. Now, we’re going to get to see if they meant what they said.
Negotiating themselves out of obumbler care was the tip off that they have no intention of defunding.
I have been a supporter of the republicans since Dwight Eisenhower.
Never ever again will they get one penny from me.
Neither of those cuts Obama-care funding unless Obama signs a budget without it, because O-care funding is classified like SS and medicare.
Actually shutting down is a way to change the subject away from Obama-care since there is no defense budget for FY14 so the troops pay stops.
So troops stop getting paid and Obama-care money keeps rolling. This is why nothing will happen/.
Mona Charen was on Bill Bennett this morning screeching uncharacteristically that the media won’t like a shut down and why can’t all the smart republicans with ideas get together and talk about coming up with an alternative to BO Care
Crazy
I hope your Doctor accepts medicaid.
John Boehner in 2012 basically said ObamaCare is the law of the land and will be funded.
***********
Whatever John Boehner says is meaningless. A talking parrot says more of substance than Boehner.
All four leaders are liars.

The GOP elites are controlled by Wall Street and multinational corporations who fund the political campaigns of the leadership and many Congresscritters. Obamacare, and the single payer government healthcare system to follow, is the vehicle through which these corporations will ultimately offload the expense of employee healthcare on the federal government.
In the 1980’s and 1990’s corporations shifted their defined benefit pension plans to 401K savings plans, thereby eliminating most of the cost of funding pensions.
From the 1990’s (Bush I) to the present they have encouraged politicians of both parties to allow a flood of cheap labor into the country to hold down wages.
From the 1990’s (Bush I) to the present they’ve successfully persuaded Congress and the President to pursue “free” trade policies, eliminating tariffs and quotas, which have allowed them to move domestic manufacturing outside the US in an effort to lower costs.
Now they want to eliminate the cost providing employee healthcare costs. Obamacare was rammed through Congress by the Democrats. While talking a good game, the Republicans take no action in Congress to defund it because their masters don’t want it defunded.
When something in Washington doesn’t seem to make sense, follow the money trail to determine who benefits.
When our elected leaders exempt themselves from the laws they pass, they are no longer public servants but instead are Rulers.
With the GOP “leadership”, the word “pledged” is a synonym for Bill Clinton’s “is”.
Doesn’t Mona Charen look down her nose at constitutionalists?
Just curiosity....but why are you mentioning Rush?
We think alike.
Add to your list the flooding the labor market by any means, to include removing all gender-based rules bringing millions of low wage female workers into the market.
Doubling the labor pool is doubling the labor pool. Econ 101 says it will drive wages down.
Well I can tell you she sure did this morning in this case
She wants the GOP to get together and talk
I had to turn it off. It was outrageously out of touch and also denigrating and condescending to those who are putting forth a real effort
She was citing funding for public school, so, what do I expect?
Anyone who has not given up on public school is out of touch to begin with
As the saying goes: That was then. This is now.
