Syria hails 'historic American retreat' as Obama hesitates

Syria hailed an "historic American retreat" on Sunday, mockingly accusing President Barack Obama of hesitation and confusion after he delayed a military strike to consult Congress.

"Obama announced yesterday, directly or through implication, the beginning of the historic American retreat," Syria's official al-Thawra newspaper said in a front-page editorial.

Syria's deputy foreign minister Faisal Mekdad accused Obama of indecision. "It is clear there was a sense of hesitation and disappointment in what was said by President Barack Obama yesterday. And it is also clear there was a sense of confusion as well," he told reporters in Damascus.

It’s coming to our senses the way our founding fathers envisaged. Only a formal declaration of war will unite the nation in this effort. This is necessary.

Putin asked him to pull down his pants to see if he had any b*lls, when he did, he didn’t.

Now he will blame it on congress.

If pubs are smart, they will leave him holding onto whatever bag(s) he might have. Leave him twisting in the wind.

Amateur hour.

Bashar al-Assad can now claim to be the first leader to force America to back down. He will be a hero in the Middle East

So true. Is Obama after a stalemate between Syrian forces, Assad and the rebels, in order to attain a negotiated settlement, as was suggested
by one the Sunday panels? It is confusing that it’s debilitating for the US and Obama, for sure.

Don’t count on it. Lindsey and McCain are running around beating the war drums. The GOP is not that smart.

Beyond that, and most importantly, we have no business interfering in Syria. The rebels are worse than the regime. They would use us today to gain power and harm us tomorrow because that is their nature.

Claim might even be held by an 11 year old.

What a joke is 0bama. Gets mocked by everyone, including Assad's 11 year old son on Twitter.

Honestly, I think what may lead to Obama taking unilateral action without the Congressional approval will NOT be the use of chemical weapons, but the taunts of Assad’s brat. I think Obama is really that petty.

This is just more of the peace and love Obama promised us from other nations, as they realized how much more respect we had for them, post Hawk George Bush.

Obama is an utter fool, and those who voted for him are even bigger fools.

Now even some on the left are abhorred by what they see.

Obama handlers should have keep OBL “alive and living in Syria”. It would have made this “war” so much easier.

But getting OBL was the trump card that took Obama’s forged birth certificate off the front pages.

And now he’s left with 9s.

Every day Obama and his enablers kill more children, American children, with the over-the-counter chemical weapons that are designed to do nothing else but murder children, than were allegedly used by terrorists to kill Syrians.

It's 'Back To The Future' and Marty McFly's being called chicken. In the end even Marty learned not to 'hothead it' when someone called him a chicken.

There aren't enough ways for me to say 'so what'...

The Sauds want this war to expand so the U.S. will take out Iran for them... with our money and blood.

My take is we should let these people fight their own wars - kill each other if they can't make peace - and let Allah sort them out... (as Palin would say..)

We don't have a dog in this fight.

If we lost the war and bankrupted our country in the process these people would be cheering. If we won, they would still hate us. There's no win. As for the hundreds who died over there? It's sad, but hundreds died in Chicago last year - and thousands in car accidents. We have issues in our own country.

From Wikipedia ... Big Stick ideology

The letter in which Roosevelt first used his now famous phrase Big Stick ideology, Big Stick diplomacy, or Big Stick policy refers to U.S. President Theodore Roosevelt’s foreign policy: "speak softly, and carry a big stick." Roosevelt attributed the term to a West African proverb, "Speak softly and carry a big stick; you will go far," but the claim that it originated in West Africa has been disputed.[1] The idea of negotiating peacefully, simultaneously threatening with the "big stick", or the military, ties in heavily with the idea of Realpolitik, which implies a pursuit of political power that resembles Machiavellian ideals.[2] Roosevelt first used the phrase in a speech at the Minnesota State Fair on September 2, 1901,[3] four days before the assassination of President William McKinley who died eight days later, which subsequently thrust Roosevelt into the presidency ... Roosevelt described his style of foreign policy as "the exercise of intelligent forethought and of decisive action sufficiently far in advance of any likely crisis".

In short ... Obama is most definitely not a Teddy Roosevelt and consequently ... America suffers.

Today obama is being mocked, not because he did not start another war, but because he was itching to.

Jug ears could have easily saved face by coming out and saying that we are unsure of who used the Chemical weapons.

Instead, like the phony video story, he and his weird regime keeps pushing and promoting their view that Assad did it.

Yes I agree - but why did Obama beat the drums of war, only to backdown at the last minute? It all seems so ill thought through. Its clear to me Obama was prepared to ignore congress completely when he thought a strike was needed, now he is only using it for a face-saving way out when he changed his childish mind.

This more about the mishandling if this from the outset. He’s boxed himself in too many times, and his vacillating makes him look weak and feckless. The take away from this is that he is a horrible leader, not whether he attacked or not.
