Editorial: Ted Cruz and the ‘birther’ issue
Dallas News ^ | Aug 19, 2013 | Edtitorial

Posted on 09/02/2013 4:25:59 PM PDT by Jim Robinson

Is he a natural-born citizen or isn’t he? The question has been a nagging part of Barack Obama’s life ever since his first presidential campaign. No amount of birth certificates and sworn statements from state officials in Hawaii, his birthplace, seemed capable of putting the issue to rest. The “birther” movement continues pressing the question even today, five years after Obama’s election to the presidency.

The question nags anew, but this time Texas Republican Sen. Ted Cruz is the focus because he was born in Canada to an American mother and Cuban father. By law, his mother’s U.S. citizenship automatically confers natural citizenship to Cruz, just as — for those who continue to doubt the location of Obama’s birth — the citizenship of Obama’s American mother conferred it to him.

When it became a hot-button issue in 2008, Democrats countered that Obama’s GOP opponent, Sen. John McCain of Arizona, was born to American parents at a U.S. military installation in the Panama Canal Zone. The implication being that if Republicans wanted to play the birther game, Democrats could, too.

This is such a nonissue, regardless of whether the candidate is Republican or Democrat. Nevertheless, narrow-minded individuals, including some prominent personalities such as billionaire former presidential contender Donald Trump, are doggedly trying to concoct controversy and introduce doubt where there should be none.

These men have been natural U.S. citizens from birth and have every right to seek the nation’s highest office. Article II of the Constitution sets out three eligibility requirements to be president: that the person be at least 35 years old, a resident within the United States for 14 years and a “natural-born citizen.”

If Obama is Legitimate

Ted Cruz is legitimate.

IMO neither of them is, but what’s good for the goose——

Who or what would challenge Ted if he ran ?

(Seems like mostly scab-picker Republicans.)

When you come here and tell me something that something is not true, when you don't know yet, it bothers me.

As of the 25th of August, Cruz wasn't even sure. The Dallas paper said he did have duel citizenship. Perhaps it will turn out that he doesn't, but if Cruz doesn't even know, you don't know.

What's your source? Here we are at least two years before the real campaigning begins, and we already have folks trying to shut down the conversation regarding candidates. Haven't we seen enough of how divisive that gets? How many people must we lose, before we pull our heads out and allow reasoned debate on matters like this? Why in the world would be begin at this point to shut down discussion of this?

Sarah’s ordeals might... for all we know... be how the Lord has been preparing her for a REAL thrust at the Presidency. In the Lord’s plan, trials are meant for good, not for harm; though Satan is involved, God has Satan on a chain. They are well-controlled, well-orchestrated occasions to stop and consider... how can the Lord be better glorified here? If Sarah did that, then she is better prepared now.

I don't know him personally, so I don't know if I like him or not. But I hired him to be my senator because of his resume.

Like has nothing to do with it, for me.

His name is not Barrack Hussein Obama. And that’s another thing he wants to hide.

As for the Dallas Morning birdcage liner, I don’t think I’ll trust their opinion on anything constitutional.

There are finer points of the law that say otherwise. The devil is in the details.

I thought I would see some sort of bon mot about rednecks and Christmas lights.

Well, rednecks do think it’s Christmas all year long so it’s apropos. Jesus doesn’t complain about a perpetual birthday party.

You're right, of course - it still sticks in my craw that this kind of issue only works against the Right and not the Left.

At least on FR, we have a multitude of people who will speak the truth and stand up for it. As to the media - they're a lost cause.

Jim I very much like what I’ve seen of Cruz. I could easily vote for him at this point.

Beyond those differences that you mentioned, it is evident that Cruz has a loyalty to this nation that Obama is incapable of adopting.

Cruz didn’t attend a Madrassa, he didn’t hang out with extreme anti-U. S. Leftists, he didn’t surround himself in college with anti-U. S. radicals, bomb tossers, and the likes of Louis Farrakan.

While Obama was getting fake kudos for no achievements, Cruz was doing the things you pointed out. Those were very positive things. They demonstrated that he has a firm grip on how this nation was intended to be run, and he knows how to work the system to advantage.

I do want to hear more about his ‘natural born’ status. In the not to distant future, I think that question will be answered for me. I expect it to be. I just bristle at the idea we need to be so thin skinned, when a guy of great character comes along, who can defend himself on these issues.

Cruz is the real deal. We don’t need to be fearful like he’s made of porcelain and will crack. He’s going to go through a lot more than a few honest FReepers will ask of him.

What is your source? You did see that question right?

Cruz doesn’t know himself, but you profess to know.

Please provide your source.

Thanks, Jim. I couldn't agree with you more.

Ted Cruz is smart, conscientious and patriotic. This makes him a natural born enemy of the left and the media, as can be seen in their relentless birther attacks.

There is no crime that could ever become cause for removing Obama. NO CRIME!

He has pigmentation immunity.
