The Quebec province in Canada has adopted a new Charter of Quebec Values, prohibiting skullcaps and other religious garments to be worn during public service. According to the charter, employees in the public service system -including doctors, nurses, teachers, and government officials will not be allowed to wear any religious symbols or garments while working, including a Star of David, cross, kippot, burqa or turban.
According to Ynet, leaders in the Jewish community, including Lawyer and Political advisor Eric Maldoff who lead the delegation and Jewish Federation president David Cape, met with Bernard Dranville, the Canadian minister responsible for the charter, to express their opposition and outrage at the initiative.
Quebec Premier Pauline Marois, leader of the separatist party, is in favor of the initiative according to a report in the National Post, and believes it will help to preserve the French language and Quebec values.
In order to be put into effect, the Charter of Quebec Values will have to pass legislation and a vote during the upcoming elections this fall. Many are also waiting to see as to the stance of the federal Canadian government on the charters initiative.

This charter bans "all religious symbols" not just Jewish. The title was extraordinarly misleading.
And some of the Pharisees in the crowd said to him, Teacher, rebuke your disciples.
He answered, I tell you, if these were silent, the very stones would cry out.
Big religious tattoos are exempt
coz you can`t “wear” a tattoo.
Catholics don`t “wear” ashes on their foreheads.
You can shave your head in the form of a cross, Star of David, etc. cos you can`t “wear” your hair.
Are Hot Cross buns allowed?
Soon they will ban “angry” because you look “cross”.
You could put gold crosses in your teeth cos you don`t “wear” your teeth.
Nice misleading headline.
>>It is incredible the power of headlines and how little people on FR read the actual article.<<
That’s where the term ‘low information voters’ comes from. They’re in too much of a hurry to read the article and learn the whole story.
I think that it is the same Judaism that was “a threat to German identity” in the 1930s and to the Soviet State for decades.
The really perverse thing is that all over the world - including, astonishingly, the USA - people have accepted the idea of “religious freedom” to mean the government’s banning of its expression, practice or discussion.
To preserve”French values” the Guru suggests a pin shaped like a weasel waving a white flag.
