Graham's Hawkish Posture Confronts War-Weary Voters in South Carolina

Senator weighs pushing for unpopular missile strike as his re-election opponents wait in the wings.

As one of the leading advocates for bipartisan immigration reform, Sen. Lindsey Graham, R-S.C., had already firmly affixed himself to one cause deeply unpopular with conservatives heading into a re-election year.

[POLL: Most Americans Oppose Military Strike in Syria]

Now as a war-weary Congress weighs a military strike in Syria, he finds himself championing another policy that risks antagonizing the base.

...

Next to Sen. John McCain, there's no more forceful and visible advocate for a muscular response...

Nonetheless, as he seeks a third term in 2014, Graham appears fully cognizant of the risks of his hawkish posture.

"My problem is I'm trying to explain to the American people why Syria matters while my commander-in-chief is AWOL,"

In NJ, we lost neighbors and fellow church-goers to the attacks on 9/11.

My relatives in SC lost neighbors and church members who went to fight in Afghanistan and Iraq.

Let the Muslims fight it out among themselves. To take side with any of them is to lose - lose influence, lives and honor.

The way to defend ourselves against Muslims is to close them out of our land.

Whenever I see a congresscritter behaving irrationally, that is going against the principles upon which he was elected, I wonder about the blackmail angle. I have concluded the congress system is hopelessly corrupt. It just happens all the time. That is why the only thing that will save us is a 12 year term limit. The power of the incumbency is so very strong.

Homosexuality might indeed be generalized as a form of dissimulating or brazenly empowering scandals.

Lindsay is learning well from his big boy expert Obama.

Funny thing is they are homophobes who will also dissimulate their most atrocious crimes and abuses against fellow homos.

It s a sad folly taking the nation by the throat, blind obedience, end justify Means obedience, giving them a chance to be in power n good if only we let them....

I hear that some representatives are getting mail and calls that are 95% against any actions regarding Syria.

Yep, just like when only blackz can call blacks ngg+ , only homoz have he right to abuse other homos calling them sluts whores or whatever.

They hide their atrocities And abuses on fellow partners Cruz hey are so called fellow partners. This is no excuse, this is mental illness. A hetero calling them f@GS is less offensive but informative in the end.

These people’s charm school is quite sick.

They love the Islam loophole. These fools don’t get that the homosexual Islam loophole is an algorithm to hide abuse of power that will be used against them.

GrAham is he essence of cowardice, intellectual and moral.

Well Linda, if your commander in chief is awol, why would you have any trust at all with him as commander in chief in charge of a larger war?

Little twit makes no sense.

Can someone tell me how many men and women from South Carolina march to war on this schmuck’s insistence? Why do I think SC provides a hell of a lot of soldiers for these crazy wars.

The problem with voting in SC is that Dems can vote in the primary’s as they are open. This has driven me to near madness over the years I have lived here. Believe me, the Dems want Gaynasty back into run against their guy. I can’t tell you how many conservatives I have spoken to that say if Gaynasty gets back in as the Repube nominee, they will vote against him and vote Democratic. Why not, same difference.

Graham knows he can spout this nonsense all he wants because when election time comes around, SC voters will just reelect him again anyway. Same with McCain and AZ voters.

Too many Republicans have run up the white flag. It’s time to leave the party, since the only choice we seem have left is the company we keep in our train ride to hell.

These comments will seriously depress Dem voter enthusiasm for Graham. He needs them to carry his fruity behind over the finish line.

I think both Graham and Tom Cotton have totally fumbled Syria. We shall see if it takes them down.

Is there going to be a debate for the SC primary for US Senator?

I certainly hope so. In fact, I hope there are three or more. Somebody up thread suggested maybe Gov. Hailey could "suggest" debate(s). That might work.

I've sent linda several strongly worded emails daring her to grow a pair and defend her record before her constituents in town halls and in debates. Don't forget, we're a year away from the election. There's plenty of time. And I'm sure linda will soon start charging like the RINO she is towards the right.

Here's linda. She's all dressed up, ready to go take out the bad guys in Syria and elsewhere. I'm sure Juan will lend a hand.

If Lindsey won’t debate, I hope his challengers take a trick from Clint Eastwood and put an empty chair in his place.
