No one could see this coming.

Iowa is giving people who are blind permits that will allow them to purchase guns or to carry firearms in public, the Des Moines Register reports. The permits are legal, as Iowa law does not deny anyone the right to carry a weapon based on physical disability. But, the paper reports, the dilemma comes for law enforcement officials who are trying to ensure public safety.

Advocates for the disabled are split over the decision.

Blind people can just walk into a store, buy a bicycle or even a moped, and ride/drive off in it.

I haven’t heard any stories about blind moped riders hurting anybody, nor about blind gun owners misusing a firearm.

We have to assume that adult law abiding citizens will use their sense, or we would be compelled to install a nanny state/dictatorship.

"Legally blind" doesn't mean absence of sight.

The Social Security administration defines "legally blind" as 20/200 or less.

The Blind’s hearing tends to be very accurate, like a bat’s. If I were a criminal, I would be fearful of a blind person with a gun.

Being legally blind doesn’t necessarily mean you have total loss of vision. Most blind people are labeled as low-vision.

Also a number of people such as myself are legally blind without glasses (driving restriction - count finger only), but with glasses or contacts can see at 20/20 acuity.

Seriously, I’d be more concerned if they gave blind people driver’s licenses.

When was the last time we heard of a blind CCW holder, or any CCW holder for that matter, blasting away at random on Main Street.
That's the image the libs have of gun owners.
Being blind or almost blind does not negate your right to defend yourself against invaders or robbers.

Good people owning guns, regardless of ability, is not a threat to public safety.
Libs, for all their talk of equality, don't really trust regular folks. Why is that?
