Obama Says GOP Debt Ceiling Demands Are an Assault on U.S. ‘Constitutional Structure’
The Blaze ^ | Sep. 15, 2013 | Oliver Darcy

President Barack Obama said in an interview which aired on Sunday that he “will not negotiate” on the debt ceiling with the GOP.

“What I haven’t been willing to negotiate, and I will not negotiate, is on the debt ceiling,” Obama told ABC News’ George Stephanopoulos in an interview on “This Week.”

The comments come on the eve of another fiscal showdown, where House Republicans, seeking to defund and delay the implementation of the president’s landmark healthcare law, hope to negotiate concessions from the White House.

“If we continue to set a precedent in which a president … is in a situation in which each time the United States is called upon to pay its bills, the other party can simply sit there and say, ‘Well, we’re not going to put – pay the bills unless you give us … what we want,’ that changes the constitutional structure of this government entirely,” Obama said.

Obama said he is drawing a red line.

“What has never happened in the past was the notion that in exchange for fulfilling the full faith and credit of the United States, that we are wiping away let’s say major legislation like the health care bill,” he said.

“Never in history have we used just making sure that the U.S. government is paying its bills as a lever to radically cut government at the kind of scale that they’re talking about,” he added.

NEVER in History have we SPENT so much money on vote-buying/pandering to a voterbase that we put this Nation in debt for generations to come, with NO WAY POSSIBLE TO PAY FOR IT EXCEPT BY MORE BORROWING!

Cutting government because we can’t spend unlimited amounts is unconstitutional for sure. A President should be able to do what he wants without the constraints of reality.

It will come crashing down. They understand that but won't admit it.

There is a point where even their vaunted ability to create money will not get them out of their spending madness.

Nowhere near as Constitution-assaulting as running a federal government five years without a budget, dumbass.

Is this the kind of mushy headed constitutional law they teach at Harvard?

If so, The Obamadork’s leftist professors must be absolutely overjoyed with their success.

why should he negotiate? he doesn’t care about the debt ceiling... and hasn’t since he fedgov stopped updating our national debt on may 17th... about $50billion short of the ‘ceiling’

here’s a tip for those clueless republicrats...

a ‘ceiling’ is only a ceiling ... if you cannot exceed it, cannot ignore it, and cannot avoid it.

next time, put some teeth in the bill to insure its implemented

Obama has a CONSTITUTIONAL right to overspend!

And he would know - ‘cause he’s a Constitutional scholar, they say.

Good one.

Who would know better than Obama what is in the US Constitution?

After all, he is a Harvard schooled lawyer and a constitutional professor, or so we have been told.

The school records and diploma are being held in a secure location along with his real birth certificate and his real social security card.

“...So, how is saying, “no more debt; we’re sick and tired of debt” an assault on the Constitution?...”

Because the Tea Party said the one word to him that nobody else ever said to him in his whole Affirmative Action-based career:

They said “No.”

"There is scarce a king in a hundred who would not,
if he could, follow the example of Pharaoh -
get first all the people's money, then their lands,
and then make them and their children servants forever.

It will be said that we do not propose to establish kings.
I know it.
But there is a natural inclination in mankind to kingly government.
It sometimes relieves them from aristocratic domination.
They had rather have one tyrant than 500.
It gives more the appearance of equality among citizens, and that they like.
I am apprehensive - therefore - perhaps too apprehensive -
that the government of these States may in future times end in a monarchy
[not called a monarchy but an executive with monarchial powers].
But this catastrophe, I think, may long be delayed,
if in our proposed system we do not sow the seeds of contention,
faction and tumult, by making our posts of honor places of profit.
If we do, I fear that, though we employ at first a number
and not a single person,
the number will in time be set aside,
it will only nourish the fetus of a king
(as the honorable gentleman from Virginia very aptly expressed it),
and a king will the sooner be set over us."

-- Benjamin Franklin

Great words from Franklin.

Places of profit describes nationally elected seats with too many of our Senators and Reps and High appointive offices coming away from them very wealthy or with connections that enable them to become very wealthy.

RE :”Since they’re in the driver’s seat on spending, all that have to do is TO DO what they’ll do.”

Technically a shutdown does not cut Obama-care as it is exempt,
so to actually do that they have to somehow get Reid to pass a defund bill and then Obama to sign it.

The question then becomes : Who does a shutdown hurt more (Obama or GOP) ? Or better : which side thinks they will be hurt the worst?

That will tell us who will cave.

Defunding ObamaCare does not repeal it.

Funding the remainder of government except ObamaCare does not repeal it.

Only repealing it will repeal it, and that won’t happen until we have a majority conservative House, a super-majority conservative Senate, and a conservative president.

And that won’t happen some crisis causes America to see it is being led into serfdom.

How do you fund all of America? Start them with middle expectations and keep lowering the payments until they’re low expectations, and them lead them to serfdom.

Who cares if they all have part time jobs, if they accept it?

Who cares if food stamp lobster becomes food stamp beans and rice, if they all accept it.

Who cares if a welfare apartment becomes a welfare hovel, if they all accept it?

The ancestors lived in hovels, ate beans, and worked for a pittance.

Nothing genetic will keep them from doing so.

Only something of the spirit.

It seems to be if you don’t have a budget, you can’t direct what monies get spent where.

IMO, the entire Congress is derelict in their duties for not passing a budget in 5 years, where is the outrage?

DC needs to be flushed, save for a few.
