SC Sen. Graham in toughest re-election of career
AP ^ | 9/23/2013 | JEFFREY COLLINS

Posted on 09/23/2013 2:02:10 AM PDT by markomalley

Sen. Lindsey Graham is showing no signs of changing how he operates as he faces the biggest challenge of his political career.

Willing to buck the public tide in South Carolina, Graham has backed military action against Syria, an immigration overhaul that sets a path to citizenship for some in the U.S. illegally and President Barack Obama's Supreme Court nominees.

"I'm conservative, but I do not mind one bit working with the other side to build my country up," he says in speeches to conservatives. "I'm a Ronald Reagan Republican."

His three Republican challengers are coming at him from the right, arguing that he's not conservative enough. They're also noting that the 58-year-old lawyer has been in some political office since 1993 and shows no sign of stepping down soon unless he gets voted out.

"Sarah's" track record on picking the right horse the most conservative if you will, has been pretty good.

Of those running in the primary against Linsey, I am curious as to who she will endorse, that is what I want to know and soon so we and or I can send them a few buckaroo's....

Runt Paul is nothing but a Liberaltarian attempting to sell their platform to republicans.People need to open their eyes and see that little turd for what he is.

“We need a Republican Party that looks more like the rest of America if we want to win,” Paul told reporters on Saturday afternoon, previewing the speech he would deliver over dinner that evening. “To me, that means people with ties, without ties. With tattoos, without tattoos. Working class, business class. Black, white and brown.”

http://www.mlive.com/politics/index.ssf/2013/09/rand_paul_tops_presidential_st.html#incart_river

What Paul really means is dope, queers, abortion, illegals, and every other left wing moonbat idea.

He has always been a libertarian and so are most Americans.

I am conservative but also don't care what you do in your bedroom {with adults}, believe that marriage is between one man and one woman, but don't care if adult queers want to live together, carry a gun, but don't care that someone else doesn't.

When most people examine their own positions they will find that they are fairly libertarian {not totally radical like John Stossel}.

That is fine, but I’ll never vote to elect that to set policy for the entire country.

THAT is the problem, they want the rest of the country to conform to and accept them. Never gonna happen. There is a reason Liberaltarians never get elected to anything.

I hope she endorses Lee Brite. He is a state senator and has a solid record. Don’t much care for Mace. Her only claim to fame is being the first woman in the Citadel and a business owner. Big deal. She tries to get headlines by saying something outrageous. She is snarky but it is off by a beat or two.

Perhaps Sarah will endorse Lee Bright, which is fine by me; he's MY State Senator from MY district. But your opinions of Nancy Mace seem to be fueled by information from the Graham camp.

You're confusing Shannon Faulkner, first female admitted to The Citadel, with Nancy Mace, the first female to graduate from The Citadel, Magna Cum Laude at that. If you were to read her book, I believe you would develope a different and better view of her than you presently have.

Does one have to have a "claim to fame" before being elected U. S. Senator in South Carolina. If so, why?

I call BS on your saying she tries to get headlines by saying something outrageous. Like what?

And "snarky but off by a beat or two" describes many people but not Nancy Mace, a quick wit. Again, an example please.

You only help the Graham team when you denigrate ANY of the current challengers to benefit another challenger, such as you have in your post.

Delusional. Hey, Lindsey, you've just proven, you have the judgment of a drunk who blows .37. The other side does NOT want to build the country up. They want to tear it down. And you are blind to this. So, you end up helping tear down the country. What do you think "immigration reform" is about. At best, Lindsey, you are a dupe. But it far more likely that you are a fraud, a liar and a creep.

Actually its easier than that. Just nominate people who are not “loony right” in their thinking. Good solid conservatives who have a decent track record, have been adequately vetted, and know what they can and cannot say. Akin, Angle and O’Donnell actually outed themselves. They didn’t need any help from so-called Phony-Cons.

Either you are a Graham minion, and/or you have inside information regarding a fix that's in, or you're just blowing off.

Conservatives in S.C. hope Linseed feels as overconfident as you do.

Just shows to go you that Northern Californians view conservatism differently than Northern South Carolinians.

As a longtime member of FR, you should well know by now that, as evidenced on FR during those times, Akin and O'Donnell were hammered by and NOT supported by THE NATIONAL REPUBLICAN PARTY financially or any way. And Sharon Angle against Harry Reid? Gimma a break. Fix was in BIG TIME and you should be aware of that by now.

I would say, by virtue of this one post, YOU have outted yourself as a solid mainline Republican, perhaps with a very slight conservative leaning, or a Northern California Democrat at heart. And we know who you mean by "the loony right".

“Grahamnesty can be defeated.....as long as we don’t have the sissy PhonyCon Liberals try to Akin the conservative candidate. “

Not true!. And FWIW, my family has roots in Nevada and we have had very good connections that show to our satisfaction that Sharron Angle was, in point of fact, financed by people close to Harry Reid because they knew she would be the easiest to beat. Her record in the Nevada State Legislature shows that she was almost always a disruptive force that made progress more difficult. You simply can’t be known as someone who can’t work with anyone to get anything done. As for Akin and O’Donnell, you don’t have to be a Mensa to know that they were going to self-destruct. It isn’t so much about their core beliefs, it’s about some of the “fringe” ideas that each of them have, that turn the voters against them. Just what is a Northern South Carolinian? Is that the same as a Southern North Carolinian? Inquiring minds want to know. I just hope that you want Linda Graham gone as bad as I do.

That which you put in quotations is not my quote. Never posted it.

A Northern South Carolinian is someone who lives in the Northern or Upstate part of South Carolina. Term was used this one and only time to to indicate that I, as you mentioned on your FR About page, live in the Northern part of my State. Why did you mention Northern California as your home instead of just California. Nevermind; don’t really care.

I am convinced you are a liberal in conservative’s clothing, expecially after this attempt at insulting me with your superior knowledge of events and personalities. Whatever you are, conservative isn’t it.

Lindsey would be so much happier if he would just switch parties. Most of his imagined problems would then disappear. And SC just might keep him on anyway, as they did Ernest F. Hollings for many decades.

Just like you claim to be a “Northern South Carolinian, so to do I claim to be a Northern Californian. Most people here who live north of the mountains that keep the smog in the Los Angeles Basin don’t want to have anything to do with that part of the state that lies to the south. As far as your “determination” that I am not a conservative is concerned, I refer you to the John Wayne Quote; “Life is hard, and it’s harder if you are stupid” Fits you to a tee!

Still, your idea of being a conservative is recognizably different from our idea of American conservatism here in the Palmetto State, where we actually are working to deny Senator Graham another term. Your superior and high-minded posts have outted your true inclinations for now, whatever you were at one time in the past.

Can’t argue with you on that mission. But I guess where we differ is that you seem to think that “whack jobs” like Akin make good legislators. Our Nevada family initially supported Angle, despite her somewhat poor legislative record in the Nevada Legislature. But then she started opening her mouth (a la Akin) with pronouncements that outed her as someone divorced from reality, and she did herself in with the voters. It just isn’t enough to “have the right conservative credentials” because in Nevada, you have to win Clark County and it doesn’t have the tolerance for people like Sharron. So we are putting up with Harry Reid for another SIX YEARS. Do you honestly believe that having Sharron make that happen is a “good thing” because she was “the right” candidate? Yeah, Lowden and Tarkanian were “not as conservative” as Angle, but either would have been manifestly better than Harry. so if that thought process “brands” me as something other than a conservative in you book, I plead guilty.

Your posts to me are just dishonest and disingenuous. You attribute quotes to me when I've not said or written them. One case is the statement you made above. I've never said anything of the sort and I've not referred to Akin, O'Donnell, or Angle as whack jobs, as you do repeatedly.

As I originally posted, your Northern California-inflenced brand of American conservatism, apparently, is nothing at all like the South Carolina kind. Not at all. Most of the intellectually superior stuff you've written to me duplicates the Dems talking points from the past and present. We differ on virtually everything you've posted. So, one of us should just...Move On.
