Full title: Rude Awakening for Federal Way Woman Who Got Shout-Out From President Cant Afford Obamacare Policy After All
Recognized by President: Jessica Sanford of Federal Way.
OLYMPIA, Nov. 17.Jessica Sanford, the Federal Way woman who got a shout-out from President Obama last month with her fan letter for the Affordable Care Act, got a rather rude awakening last week. Turns out she doesnt qualify for a tax credit after all.
At least thats what the letter said that she got from the state. Now she says her dream of affordable health insurance has gone poof. She cant afford it. Shell have to go without. Im really terribly embarrassed, she says. It has completely turned around on me. I mean, completely.
Chalk it up to a bollixed-up state website that apparently still has major problems. Originally it said Sanford and her child would get a whopping tax credit that would reduce their total premium to $169 a month. Now the state is telling her it goofed twice and she has to pay full ticket.
Obama related Sanfords story in remarks from the Rose Garden last Oct. 21: I recently received a letter from a woman named Jessica Sanford in Washington state, and heres what she wrote. I am a single mom, no child support, self-employed, and I havent had health insurance for 15 years because it is too expensive. My son has ADHD and requires regular doctor visits, and his meds alone cost $250 a month. I have had an ongoing tendinitis problem due to my line of work that I havent had treated. Now, finally, we get to have coverage because of the ACA for $169 a month. I was crying the other day when I signed up. So much stress lifted.

Well, that’s what she gets for kissing the Fuhrer’s ass. Sniveling little boot licker.
For some reason I don't think she's being truthfull.......
Ritilin (sp?) is provided free by the state castrators.
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA SNORT HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA SNORT
ResultsThat's $400 per month after the subsidy. I'm very surprised her budget is so tight she can't afford $400 a month on $49K per year.
The information below is about subsidized exchange coverage. Note that subsidies are only available for people purchasing coverage on their own in the exchange (not through an employer). Depending on your state's eligibility criteria, you or some members of your family may qualify for Medicaid.
- Household income in 2014:
- 316% of poverty level
- Maximum % of income you have to pay for the premium, if eligible for a subsidy:
- Health Insurance premium in 2014 (for a silver plan, before tax credit):
- $5,755 per year
- You could receive a government tax credit subsidy of up to:
- $1,100 per year
(which covers 19% of the overall premium)
- Amount you pay for the premium:
- $4,655 per year
(which equals 9.5% of your household income and covers 81% of the overall premium)
And this is just the sign-up-for-a-policy issue .... wait until she has to deal with them on actual health care and hopefully, it won't be a life/death issue. Some people (libs/progs/Dems) never learn ..... this Obamabot still believes in the ACA and says "I am a big Obama fan".
Some people never learn. This doofus is one of them.
Uh-oh! She thinks she going to have to pay a penalty of $95. Wait until she finds out her penalty is $500. The penalty is $95 or 1% of her salary, which on her $50,000 salary is $500.
Where is the child’s father? When morality goes, the nation is doomed.
$400/ month for what? If the deductible is high, then it could be likely that continuing to pay cash out of pocket is preferred to cash out of pocket plus $400/month down the toilet.
Come to think of it the Kaiser calc is for the Silver plan. She signed up for a Gold plan (lower co-payments and deductibles). Maybe that's some significantly higher number.
Hmmm...maybe ADHD is inherited.
Stupid is as stupid does.
“Stupid is as stupid does”
Nietzsche once wrote:
God is dead. God remains dead. And we have killed him. Yet his shadow still looms. How shall we comfort ourselves, the murderers of all murderers? What was holiest and mightiest of all that the world has yet owned has bled to death under our knives: who will wipe this blood off us? What water is there for us to clean ourselves? What festivals of atonement, what sacred games shall we have to invent? Is not the greatness of this deed too great for us? Must we ourselves not become gods simply to appear worthy of it?By that he meant that nobody believes in God any more. So we inflate people like Obama and regard them as living gods. Just because people have lost faith in traditional religions doesn't mean they have no belief system. It actually means they'll believe in anything.
Jessica Sanford is the poster girl for what is wrong with America. Seeking it all, the single mom has nothing. She is in the long haul, a dysfunctional societal drag
I don’t know if she was arrested for anything...but....GUILTY!
Great analysis but $400.00 per month is a lot of money when these fools expect healthcare for free.
this is the famed “Julia” by another name. First off child no spouse, strike one. Believeing anything his excellency says, strike two. Believing the government is here to help you, strik three.
BTW, the article goes on to say her son is covered now by Medicaid for $30 a month. She is complaining because she was forced to put him on medicaid before the calculations for a credit based on income and dependents which removed him from not having medical insurance, he had medicaid. Now she has to pay for insurance without benefit of a credit. So ya see, here we have another person who believed this was going to be “free” insurance and who cannot get by on a 50K income as a self employed court reporter...too bad. Meanwhile, she does not yet know she will have to fork over $500 fine for not having insurance if she goes that way, ah, the government givith and the government taketh away more!
Be nice, that is $400 that cannot go for the Volvo.
ah, yes....single parenthood. the promise of economic well-being fostered by the dimocrats.
guess she’s another who is for everyone having health care as long as she doesn’t have to pay for it....guess this includes her own.
The actual premium pricing I have seen has been significantly higher than what the Kaiser calculator predicts. Their estimates may not always be accurate.
Be nice, that is $400 that cannot go for the Volt.
Nicely done guys. Seconds apart.
Whatever the actual premium, I believe people who get subsidies will get enough to knock it down to a standard rate, for a given income level, family size and age group. People who aren't eligible for subsidies get sticker shock. Upper middle income families that buy their own insurance are in for rate shock.
But she also probably has to pay for the $250 per month of ADHD medication under that plan, since the deductible won't be reached. So the monthly cash flow out is $650 per month before any other medical costs, which she will also have to pay out of pocket, except for the zero cost checkups, vaccinations, etc.
Also, as a self employed person she has to pay all of the FICA and Medicare out of her income. So instead of seeing a 7.65% tax rate, she pays 15.3% off the top directly to the federal government. That's another $625 per month, $312 more than somebody who is not self-employed pays.
Finally, for all its problems, Medicaid is usually a generous insurance program from the user's point of view with low or zero deductibles and copays. So Medicaid is way more appealing than a typical ACA insurance plan. The next bad effect we'll see will be people who adjust their income to stay under the thresholds which cause them to lose their subsidized or free plans.
-——$250 per month of ADHD medication——
She could also stop the meds and be mother. She’s made her kid a druggie. A little conscientious mothering might go a long way to reversing the kid’s supposed problems
Mom needs to take away the X-Box and hand the kid a basketball. For less than the $250/month she's spending on meds, she could enroll him in a YMCA program after school.
Regarding my 3YO grandson, the entire family (parents and all 4 grandparents) is in agreement that we will not allow any diagnosis of ADD. When he comes to our house (usually 1-2 days a week), he never naps, because he's having too much fun. He gets plenty of physical activity, thanks to his 11YO uncle and his Opa. lol - He keeps me young, too.
My son just completed football, in two weeks basketball season starts. With sports and Boy Scouts, we're doing our best to maintain a high level of activity.
“Four days after President Obama made his address, the state health exchange publicly revealed a grevious error its tax-credit calculations were all wrong. The state had been submitting monthly income information to the federal data hub, but the federal computers were expecting an annual figure. Suppose a person claimed an income of $50,000 a year the tax credit was based on an income of $4,166 a year. The higher the income, the bigger the error. Brokers say they caught the mistake right off the bat and tried flagging it to the states attention, but for some reason it took the state three weeks to acknowledge it. So everyone who purchased a subsidized health insurance policy through the Washington state exchange prior to Oct. 23 was quoted too low a rate. The mistake involved 4,600 policies covering 8,000 people Sanfords policy was one of them.”
In King County, WA average rents for a 2 bedroom apartment are $1200 a month. After taxes, she probaby clears $3k. That doesn’t leave a lot of money to pay for power, water, maybe a car paymnet, and raise a growing kid. $400 a month would be a big hit.
That is true, and when they see how limited their coverage is in many areas they will be stunned. Apparently many of the large insurance providers have established new coverage networks with far fewer providers, and they don't provide any out of network coverage. When those upper middle income families realize that they can't send their children to specialty hospitals, or go to someplace like Cedars Sinai when one of them needs brain surgery, they'll be furious.
Don’t count on it...
“She says she wants to make it clear she has no beef with Obama and Obamacare. She still believes in the Affordable Care Act. I dont want this to be a political thing, she says. I dont want to be bashing the president. I dont want to be bashing the ACA. I dont want to come across as saying that. I am a big Obama fan.”
Schadenfreude, schadenfreude, lovely schadenfreude....oh what fun it is to watch a lib in schadenfreude....
This is your brain when dead:
“I dont want to come across as saying that. I am a big Obama fan.
This is your brain when it is functioning:
Cannot we get this guy impeached and convicted quickly.
“big Obama fan”...that is why there is little chance of taking this country back anytime soon. They have been hypnotized.
Failure- there’s your ‘Federal Way’.
ADD (or ADHD), absent dad disorder...
New definition of a conservative:
A conservative is a former liberal who had their excellent, affordable health insurance cancelled and then found out they couldn’t afford to buy an Obamacare policy because they didn’t qualify for subsidies.
In other words, a conservative is a former liberal mugged by Obamacare.
The true believers can't be swayed. But the liberals and moderates who previously went eeny, meeny, miny, moe at the polling booth are gonna get riled up. And that might be enough for a GOP senate majority in 2014.
I ran that through the translator and this is what came out.
"Please don't audit me.Please don't audit me.Please don't audit me.Please don't audit me.Please don't audit me.Please don't audit me.Please don't audit me.Please don't audit me.Please don't audit me.Please don't audit me.Please don't audit me.Please don't audit me."
Too late: self-employed individuals are at risk for audit. If she's saying her income is $49K, it's likely that it's actually $60K, if not higher.
Heh. I got “maybe he’ll bring me flowers!”
You have to do these things or it is a major mess come tax time. And an audit is much worse.
And, during this first year, without employers being involved, there is no way for the government to document your actual income.
Accordingly, the income entry is on the "Honor System"...
Looking back on my past thru today's glasses, I could easily have been diagnosed as having ADHD starting in the 5th grade...
Due to family issues, my straight A's up to that point began to decline but at least I wasn't subjected to being drugged out of my teenage years......
