Former President George W. Bush returned to The Tonight Show with Jay Leno Tuesday night to talk about his life away from the spotlight and bid farewell to his favorite late-night host.
Looking trim in a grey suit and red polka-dot die, a beaming Mr Bush, 67, told Mr Leno, who is being replaced by Jimmy Fallon in February, that he wanted to see him before he heads 'out to pasture.’
Since leaving office in 2009, Mr Bush has kept a low profile and has been reluctant to publicly discuss the policies of his successor, President Barack Obama.
During Tuesday’s interview on The Tonight Show, Mr Bush reiterated his position, saying that it is not good for the country when a former president criticizes the decisions of his successor.
However, the Republican could not pass up on the opportunity to get in a gentle jab at Mr Obama, a Democrat.
When Mr Leno pointed out that nowadays, late-night comedians are busy making fun of the embattled president, Bush said with a chuckle: ‘Better him than me.’
The 43rd president of the United States went on to explain that he does not miss being at the helm of the nation, adding that ‘eight years is plenty.’

The Leno painting is the best of the Bush paintings I’ve seen so far. It captures Leno pretty well. Any painting by a former president becomes a collector’s item, and - of course - I wouldn’t mind having one, either.

Actually that’s two things and I am certain there are hundreds if not thousands more.
Agreed. But there is something special about the Leno portrait. It’s a caricature embellished. And it’s a happy painting.
W is following in the footsteps of Eisenhower, and that’s not bad either. Better than running around making trouble like Carter and Clinton.
Of course, when “The Won” visits, he’ll give Jay an iPod with all his speeches...

He is painting! That is important and looks as if he has lost the fear of the paint, which causes most people to give up painting.

Dubya was great last night. Leno tried to bait him a couple times but he wouldn’t take it. His class is in such contrast to ‘The Won’. Dubya zinged Leno a couple of times in good humor. Laura was, as usual a beautiful lady and loving companion. It was a pleasure to watch how happy they are together in their good works after eight years in the White House. The crowd was great too.
I occasionally dip into Mad and it’s sad to see how badly the artwork has fallen. The 60s and 70s had the best artists. Mort Drucker & Don Martin. Wow!

One thing for certain and plain to see, the man loves his country.
Obama will surely follow up by appearing on Leno to give him a portrait of himself and signed by himself (in proxy).
They hate W, because he represents mid-westerner heartland values. The moment he was elected, they berated his Texas accent, customs and manners. Oh yes, don't forget the eurotrash piling on too. They were always horrified that we didn't follow their feudal caste system.
The mid-west still holds the values that make our country great. If you have some spare time, drive through Texas, Oklahoma, Kansas, the Dakotas and the other states in the region and rediscover friendly honest people.
We, as a country, would do well looking for our next leaders from that region.
GWB has a GOOD and HONEST heart and although I disagreed with much of what he did I never for a moment doubted his sincerity, love of country and that he really BELIEVED in what he was doing and that it was good for the nation.
Once in a while I see mad in the magazine section at my local store and take a look. I’d say the art is about the same as before, but it has become very one-sided politically, with a lot of crude, unfunny stuff about Palin and conservatives in general. One thing I DID find amusing was a story they did about cover art that they never used. One was titled “We support the right of gays to marry,” coupled with a drawing of David Hyde Pierce (Niles, from the old “Frasier” show), who is gay in real life, and Ellen DeGeneres, standing together at the altar.
Mad has always been left-wing. The art has degenerated.
