Eric Cantor calls for GOP unity
Politico ^ | December 7, 2013 | JAMES HOHMANN

Posted on 12/08/2013 5:41:24 AM PST by Timber Rattler

House Majority Leader Eric Cantor pleaded for Republican unity here Saturday as he prodded his party to offer more solutions that make voters feel like they have their backs on “kitchen table” issues.

The congressman, who represents a district around Richmond, told about 500 party activists during a lunch at The Homestead resort that the GOP does not need to compromise its core principles.

“If we want to win, we must begin to offer solutions to the problems that people face every day,” he said. “We have not done this recently and it has allowed the Democrats to take power, it has allowed them to pursue their politics of partisan division, and even worse … it has allowed them to enact their leftist agenda.”

(snip)

“If we show them we’re with them, we can win elections,” he said.

No matter how much The Party of Government tried to rewrite the American political lexicon — “kitchen table” issues will always trace back to the problems exacerbated by too many taxes, and too many laws.

“If we want to win, we must begin to offer solutions to the problems that people face every day,”

The only solution I want is less government. It is real simple. Cut spending. Cut taxes (actually fix the tax code with a Fair Tax or Flat Tax) Cut agencies. Cut regulations. Do those things and a sleeping giant will be unleashed.

Mike Lee and Rand Paul have both been on this same message - conservative/libertarian populism. It hits on the basic themes Democrats use and turns them against Dems. I mean they’ve made everything worse. This is a winning strategy.

“If we want to win, we must begin to offer solutions to the problems that people face every day,” .......

If the repubs keep doing what theyhave been doing and expecting different results, all is lost. Repubs MUST grow some ganodes and go back to being conservatives. Most importanly, if the current repubs cannot see the forest for the trees, the voters will show them at the next election.

(I wish they would read FreeRepublic and get the message the people are sending, they certainly are NOT getting it from the media.)

Second off, they have balls: see first off.

Third off, the problem with the US Government is not the Dumbocraps. It is the Republicans = fake opposition.

GOP, hah. They are listening to their top 100 donors on the Immigration crap. Hope the GOP can win with 100 votes. I will only vote for Tea Party endorsed candidates this time.

Hopefully the McCainiacs and others of the same ilk are on the way out. Even my Sen Rubio has piped down on the Immigration. Cruz hurt Rubio's chances for a Pres run. I'd bet dollars to donuts that Rubio was promised a VP slot if he was part of the Gang of 8 that listened to the Gang of 100. Rubio should have stayed out of that crap as we all knew his Immigration story and he should have been thankful he was elected to a Senate seat.

The "clear principles" the Republicans need to focus on are defending the constitution of the US and defending our borders and ending the invasion of the US. They could also consider fullfilling the campaign promises they make to sucker constitutional conservatives into voting for them.

These has-beens are delusional.

here is one way to help the base and there are many many more like it.

Close the damn border like you said you would. this would help the voter like this:

Prevent ID theft by foreigners
Stop smuggling
help prevent terrorist from coming over the border
Lower the cost of medical care for border states
Reduce the risk of third world disease from getting into the USA
Reduce crime from criminals who break the laws to get here
Reduce unemployment by removing criminals who take our jobs

And the list goes on and on. Problem is these hacks won't listen to the conservative base which offers real solutions for the voters.

If the GOP-e stuck to their traditional conservative principles, there would have been no need for the TEA Party (Taxed Enough Already) which has given the GOP-e such heartburn.

Let's review:

OUR CORE PRINCIPLES (TEA Party)

FISCAL RESPONSIBILITY means not overspending, and not burdening our children and grandchildren with our bills. In the words of Thomas Jefferson: “the principle of spending money to be paid by posterity [is] swindling futurity on a large scale.” A more fiscally responsible government will take fewer taxes from our paychecks.

CONSTITUTIONALLY LIMITED GOVERNMENT means power resides with the people and not with the government. Governing should be done at the most local level possible where it can be held accountable. America’s founders believed that government power should be limited, enumerated, and constrained by our Constitution. Tea Party Patriots agree. The American people make this country great, not our government.

FREE MARKET ECONOMICS made America an economic superpower that for at least two centuries provided subsequent generations of Americans more opportunities and higher standards of living. An erosion of our free markets through government intervention is at the heart of America’s current economic decline, stagnating jobs, and spiraling debt and deficits. Failures in government programs and government-controlled financial markets helped spark the worst financial crisis since the Great Depression. Further government interventions and takeovers have made this Great Recession longer and deeper. A renewed focus on free markets will lead to a more vibrant economy creating jobs and higher standards of living for future generations.

The GOP-e has abandoned these traditional conservative principles and aligned itself with the ILL-ANNOY model of "The Combine", that is, above all else, protect centralized power regardless of party affiliation, go along to get along, and crossing the aisle is a one-way street of compromising your principles and allowing your opponent to define you.

The GOP needs to be purged of the compromisers.

To have unity you need a common goal. People who call themselves republican don’t have one. The people who run the party believe in a large activist Federal Government. That is undeniable. 3/4 of the people who support the party do not.

Where’s the unity supposed to come from?

“If we want to win, we must begin to offer solutions to the problems that people face every day,

Right there, fundamental disagreement with that. There will be NO SOLUTIONS to ANYTHING from Washington D.C. If that's the coure idea of the Republican party then I am no Republican.

We need a party that takes as it's motto Reagan's declaration "The Federal Government isn't the answer, it's the problem".

I think America is ready to listen to that again.
