Rush Limbaugh to the rescue for Irish horse and carriage drivers in Central Park
Irish Central ^ | January 4, 2014 | JAMES O'SHEA

Rush Limbaugh has come out swinging in defence of the heavily Irish horse and carriage industry in New York’s Central Park after new mayor Bill de Blasio promised to put them off the streets.

Over half the drivers of the 200 horses are Irish, but they are fighting a rearguard action against de Blasio, who had major support from animal rights groups.

De Blasio stated that one of his first acts would be to end the horse and carriage trade and replace it with electric car tours.

"We are going to quickly and aggressively move to make horse carriages no longer a part of the landscape in New York City... They are not humane. ... It's over."

Limbaugh, among others, scoffed at that.

What does BdN think is going to happen to these horses if they can’t earn their keep? They’ll soon be, well, horsemeat..

I have seen working horses in horrible condition

If they are well cared for and treated appropriately that is one thing

But if not, shut them down

Is there a “greener” form of transportation than a horse and carriage?

Wihelm..aka di blahsio’s whole manner is one of open tyranny isnt it,

ITS OVER.? such a brash contemptuous young punk

Electric CAR TOURS are his replacement? thats sure to be a major tourist draw!

I dont think I remember any other New York Mayor ever expressing any CONCERN over this non issue. Evidently Wilhelm feels the NEED to be at the very advance guard of locally based Neo Stalinism!

Probably 110% of these Irish horse drivers and a few of their dead relatives/friends, voted for Obozo and their current communist/lefty mayor.

I have zero sympathy for any NY City leftie, who voted for Obozo and their current communist/lefty mayor.

News for de Blasio: horses like people, and people like horses.

No doubt getting rid of all the dogs and cats in the city will be next.

Where’s his black leather jacket and beret? I’m having my doubts about his being down with the struggle.

I can’t speak for NYC, but I rode a carriage once in Charleston, SC. .

Highly regulated by the State. They can only work a few hours a day and get pampered like you wouldn’t believe. They are constantly monitored by State officials, and each individual ride must stop by a State-run checkpoint to log the name of the animals and then randomly draw a route they will travel.

I can only assume NY would be as tough, if not tougher on the operations

If one leaves a dropping, the horseman makes a call, and within minutes, a crew arrives to clean up the mess.

Lots of jobs will be lost, but the Mayors buds will get a shot at the prime Real Estate that the carriage houses and stables now sit on.

Man.. the looney mayor fund raising is starting briskly.

Next. Ban pets in NYC. Pollution not good for kitty cats, displaces rats.

The NYPD needs to get rid of their mounted patrols too then. They can ride around in electric cars.

The horses aren't a problem unless you feed them Beefarino.

"Is there a “greener” form of transportation than a horse and carriage?"

From what I've seen, horses don't fully burn all of the hay they consume.
