I agree. We’ve (not we the people, but our Congress and Presidents) have exported our jobs and imported poverty. The USA could deal with a 10-15% underclass but not a 40% which is where we are headed. I blame it on those who made treaties and failed to enforce laws.

When manufacturing jobs were plentiful, and were used to make the products we Americans used, our economy hummed along pretty good and Americans paid taxes that fed the system, and that kept us out of trouble debt wise too.

Computers and internet not only made modern trade and outsourcing possible but it also made automation like at grocery stores possible. Companies here can email their components in China and its very easy for Chinese to learn to read and write English.

In fact the computer itself killed millions of jobs replacing paper forms hand filled out.

I am skeptical that a Trump like protectionism would have worked.,

Obama scammed many of the public that government spending on green energy would create jobs that couldn't be exported,
Those jobs left here too and they took the bailed out GM jobs with them .

How did Germany become such a powerful exporter?

We know it wasn’t by invading, occupying and rebuilding poor undeveloped Muslim hellholes.

I agree with you on Germany.

USA is policeman of and for the world, but the only problem in that scenario is only we get to pay the bill. Guns and-or butter are still competing economic variables in an economy.

If we are protecting all of these advanced economies by absurdly tryng to impose democracies in hell holes, why are not we sending the world the bill?

When big business patriotically served America I stood firmly as a conservative and corporatist. In today’s globalist corporate world where big business serves only themselves with the cheapest labor and essentially work against national sovereignty, conservative and global corporatist are no longer aligned.
