Why is a spending bill originating in the Senate?

It's so cute how you think the Constitution matters anymore. Now citizen, please, for your own good, be silent and pay your taxes. Kathy and Julia need your support.

What’s another 6 billion on top of 88 trillion (that’s trillion with a T) that isn’t reported properly. We are at least 88 trillion in debt already...

“This is all borrowed — every penny of it,” Sen. Jeff Sessions, R-Ala., told Fox News.

And THIS bill is different from the other UNFUNDED HUNDREDS of OTHERS passed through the years - as well as UNFUNDED 0bamacare?

Our leaders are insane! I secede from The Union! From here on out, the 1.2 square miles I own is my own country! Flag to follow!

I thought not extending these benefits was the ONLY concession we GOT from the Government Shutdown?

Aarrgghhhh!!!!!!!!!!

They can always raise taxes later when it reaches a crisis, then again, and again, like Maryland does.

bums who won't take a job after two years

Valid arguments on both sides of this issue. But, one of the attitudes that continue to perplex me are attitudes like your statement.

Many of these unemployed are older generation individuals who have burned through any savings and who are unable to find work, simply because in many areas of this country, there are no jobs. In other locations, the limited jobs available are going to younger workers.

Your statement makes it sound as if things are just fine in the Obama economy and it's these unemployed who just want something for nothing, as if these unemployed aren't victims at all. I'm fairly sure nothing is further from the truth.

The hostility being expressed by some here and elsewhere is misdirected. Instead of blaming the unemployed, why are so few identifying the real cause of a terrible jobs market and placing blame where it belongs...the resident at 1600 Pennsylvania Ave.

So if this is a spending Bill then how can it originate in the senate?

Good question, but I'm sure Dirty Harry has some ploy to make it legal in the court of the MSM.

People who were making 50k before might have truly never been worth that much and had a bump from the prior market.
In today's market where reality sets the pay scale it could be that 50k person was never worth that and can't find a anyone who will pay them more than 22k a year, so they refuse to work. They want to stay home and not work while waiting for the never appearing 50k job again.

IMO, they need to grow up and move on. You may have been a former government worker making 70k and could find you are actually hardly qualified to make minimum wage in the real world.

Time to name names:

“The measure, (was) sponsored by Republican Dean Heller of Nevada and Democrat Jack Reed of Rhode Island

Five Republicans joined Heller to support moving forward on the legislation — Susan Collins of Maine, Lisa Murkowski of Alaska, Kelly Ayotte of New Hampshire, Dan Coats of Indiana and Rob Portman of Ohio.”

Once again former Tea Party darling Kelly Ayotte shows her true RINO ideology.

Unemployment benefits have now morphed into a government entitlement.

They will never be curtailed.

Why is a spending bill originating in the Senate?

Because it would never get off the ground in the House, and that would deprive leftists of an issue to screech about in the hopes of diverting everyone's attention from Obamacare. All the media will report is that House Republicans are denying people who have collected two years of unemployment from getting another three months. A professional victimcrat makes for much more lurid soundbites and video than the truth does ("spending bills originate in the House, so this is all Harry Reid wasting time to put on a show").

Sorry, but if someone can’t find work after 2 YEARS, they belong on welfare, not collecting unemployment benefits.

That’s why we have a welfare system!

I think you are absolutely correct.

Interesting though that they can suddenly find a way to survive on $1200 a month (or whatever it is) collecting UE.

Now he is on TV (MSNBC showing it) praising the unemployed and explaining that they are victims, ‘working their tails off trying to get jobs’.

Does he take responsibility for the economic mess he created that caused all this unemployment? /s

There are people on SS that only get $600 a month, and they have troubles getting increases, but we can afford to enable formally over paid people for two years.

Democrats and some Republicans LOVE playing monopoly with the public treasury.

Sen. Lisa Murkowski, R-Alaska

Bingo.

As someone who is older and has been unemployed for over a year I thank you. It is very difficult as an older worker to find a job and for those who want to tell me to work at mcdonalds etc, let me tell you, mcdonalds isn't going to waste their time and money on me because they know as soon as the economy turns around I'm outta there and secondly, I speak English! There is an incredible amount of age discrimination, I've experienced it over the last year, can't prove it, my word against theirs but I can tell you it's blatantly obvious employers are not interested in older workers, they want the young so they can mold them, they want the young who don't know any better, they want the young who will take the BS.

People on unemployment are not making money hand over fist like some people believe. Here in MA you get half of what you were making and there is a limit....if you were making $500. a week you get $250.00 on unemployment BEFORE taxes, trying paying your bills on that....or if you were making over $1306.00 a week the max you can get from unemployment in MA is $653.00 a week BEFORE taxes....imagine a sales person making $100k a year = $1923 a week and here in MA that person would only get $653. a week, trying paying your bills on that and feeding your family, etc. In other states the formula is a lot different and the amounts are a lot smaller. And AFAIK no one is getting 99 weeks anymore, IIRC they did away with that.
