If You Think Communism Is Bad For People, Check Out What It Did To The Environment

(And it's not a coincidence or accident of history)

When pressed by Twitter critics earlier this month over the horrendous human rights record of his chosen ideology, Jesse “#FULLCOMMUNISM” Myerson struck back with this tweet:

'Jesse A. Myerson @JAMyerson

If I have to answer for Soviet gulags, these market/capital twits have to answer for climate collapse, the greatest genocide in history.

8:44 PM - 3 Jan 2014'

In addition to being an advocate for an ideology directly responsible for tens of millions of non-war deaths and untold human misery, Myerson has revealed himself as something of an ignoramus concerning communism’s shocking record on environmental issues. Not only a blight on the human condition, communism’s impact on the planet’s ecology has proven consistently ghastly.

When the Berlin Wall came down and the Iron Curtain was finally lifted to expose the inner workings of communism to Western eyes, one of the more shocking discoveries was the nightmarish scale of environmental destruction. The statistics for East Germany alone tell a horrific tale: at the time of its reunification with West Germany an estimated 42 percent of moving water and 24 percent of still waters were so polluted that they could not be used to process drinking water, almost half of the country’s lakes were considered dead or dying and unable to sustain fish or other forms of life, and only one-third of industrial sewage along with half of domestic sewage received treatment.

An estimated 44 percent of East German forests were damaged by acid rain — little surprise given that the country produced proportionally more sulphur dioxide, carbon dioxide, and coal dust than any other in the world.

For many years now, I've been explaining to young communists-in-training (college grads with biology/ecology degrees) that their beloved statist ideology has been responsible for MASSIVE environmental destruction across the world.

They look at me like I'm some sort of an odd talking rock...

Chernobyl is not the best example of communist mismanagement, thus it has influenced a Soviet collapse much harder than the Afghan-Soviet War, contrary to popular belief.
The plant explosion was a result of exact bonehead actions of exact bonehead persons and it has nothing to do with political system.
As for a clean-up operation, it puts modern Japan to shame, so much was done by the Soviets to reduce fallout and minimize effects.

If you want a real example of awful communist crime against nature look as Aral Sea.

The greatest lie in history is not the “greatest genocide”; if you want that, Myerson, look towards Mao.

And you still have to answer for Soviet gulags. So get ready.

Ah, it’s great to be a pawn while there’s a hot market for pawns.

Big lies like that are best answered by laughing at them, not by drawing yourself up to your full worldly height and getting all huffy. They don’t deserve the dignity of being gotten huffy at.

I read Myerson’s ridiculous Rolling Stone article about a week ago, and his claim about communism being good for the environment is just as absurd.

The book “The Truth About Chernobyl” describes the actions of many heroic people, who knew that they were going to die while fighting the disaster. I wonder if anyone has ever made a film from that book. It was chilling, and very real.

I believe that there are effectively many “dead zones” over there. Ironically, Wikipedia mentions that the plant and city that produces so much platinum and palladium for catalytic converters, also puts out about 1% of the entire planet’s sulfur dioxide emissions. The plume of dead trees can be seen east of the city from space.

Agreed - it was the result of inept and unqualified managers only good at “org chart engineering” - which IMO is a worldwide problem!

Communism is hedonistic pollution politics, basically. Materialism and abortion is like the fig tree occupying unfruitful real estate. If it does not produce good fruits only to eventually die, why not cut it now.
