Divorce Corp. Details the Injustices of Family Court
SF Weekly ^ | Tue., Jan. 21 2014 | Adrian Rodriguez

What if you had to pay for justice? What if you couldn't afford it? Would you be left with lawlessness, clutched in the grip of oppression? The makers of the independent documentary film Divorce Corp. seem to think so, as they charge the family court system with being "a dark corner of the judicial system where fiefdoms and tyrants still thrive..."

First-time writer and director Joseph Sorge experienced the complexities of the family law system -- observing the injustices practiced in the family courts. Through his research he discovered that divorce affects nearly 50 percent of American households and 41 percent of first-time marriages end in divorce.

In his film, Sorge provides a reminder of the chaos that comes with divorce. Here at SF Weekly we remember the broken system when it comes to abusive parents who are awarded custody of their children because of flawed methods of investigating accusations of abuse. And this docu-drama shines a light on how family court uses children as leverage for profit and how the system has become a $50 billion-a-year industry.

Celebrity Dr. Drew Pinsky narrates the film as it tours the family court system with interviews with divorce attorneys, divorce mediators, judges and litigants. The film was initially released in select theaters across the U.S. on January 10, and is currently available for special screenings, and will be released on DVD and Blu-Ray in February. The book, by the same title, is available for purchase now.

Check out the trailer and tell us what you think.

There is one thing I think we can all agree on after watching the trailer: Divorce is ugly.

Divorce is ugly.

And Divorce Court is HEAVILY biased against men.

Reason #2343 why men are not marrying anymore.

Considering this is the far-left SF Weekly, and considering how women routinely make charges of abuse to gain leverage in divorce proceedings, I'm going to guess they are upset that occasionally the accusations are shown to be not credible and the woman loses.

I have seen cases where the mother was a drug ho and the guy at least a worker bee who maybe likes beer too much on the weekends (and promises to not do so with the kid).

The women get the kid, and the child support -- which she uses for drugs, even in the face of overwhelming evidence.

IF there's ever been a wrongly-named "Court", it's "Family Court"!

I hear ya. Mine has dragged out over two years now for no other reason than she wants to be spiteful and the “system” is allowing it.

Yup. And the fact that conservatives continue to flak for state licensed marriage is stunning to me. The state will soon define “marriage” as involving 3 men, two women, and a mule named Bob. And for some reason conservatives want to preserve and expand this practice?

There is an alternative to state licensed marriage: do the religious sacrament. And skip the state license.

I think it’s actually biased against anyone not on board with the liberal agenda. That’s usually more likely to be the father, but not always.

I’ve seen horrible cases of bias and injustice against mothers, too. If the judge doesn’t like you, you lose.

In divorce court, everyone loses but the lawyers.

My ex used it to finish her law degree, and become fully self supporting.

That’s probably what’s going to end up happening. Pope Leo XIII warned about the danger of the state defining marriage 130 years ago. If you would have explained state sanctioned ‘gay marriage’ to him his miter would have spun off his head. Hard to imagine what impossibilities the state will be calling marriages in another 130 years.

Any man who has been through the extortive circus called “the family court system” fully understands why Darren Mack went off on Judge Chuck Weller. The system is designed to destroy men, reward women and make lawyers and the courts very very wealthy. It’s a giant scam and none of the agents of the system could give two sh*ts or a damn about what the process does to the people involved.

Yu-huh. My uncle got hosed by wife#1.

The bright side to gay marriage is that homos will now get to experience the joys of divorce court. I guess the richer one is “the man”?

I asked the “married” gays I know once: “If you two decide to call it quits, which one of you is going to get f***ed over worse?”

No answer.
