“The Eurasian Beaver is hareier than it’s American cousin”

Well sure. It is the custom there to leave legs and pits unshaven.

I wondered about that, too. How could there be a legitimately introduced animal and no accompanying announcement to those in the wildlife science community?

So, if it is not an introduced beaver, then, as you say, perhaps the animal was not actually hunted to extinction. It could be that their numbers were just extremely low.

The case of that woodpecker comes to mind. I am thinking it was the Ivory-billed, but I may have the wrong name. Anyway, it was thought to be extinct because of loss of habitat, until about 6-7 years ago, IIRC, when a knowledgeable person spotted one in Virginia.

This sounds like wonderful news. I hope it is a native and not an introduced one.

"There isn’t supposed to be a single wolverine where my friend was, yet there it was."

I'm ranch raised. The summer range was in the northern sierra nevada/cascade mountains. We had wolverines there up to about up to about 20 years ago. They were few and far between but there are both badgers and wolverines up in that high country.

The second possibility is that the animal was never extinct. To believe that means that no one has seen a beaver in the UK in the last 500 years even though there were still breeding pairs in their waterways. Sorry, that does not hold water either.

It says first caught on camera not first seen in 500 years. Like Bigfoot and Loch Ness monster, many people see them, few get them on film.

Barbara Boxer goes into a bar with a possum on her head. The bartender says’ “what the hell is that ugly thing?” The possum says, “I don’t know, it started out as a pimple on my butt.”

Cock Up Your Beaver

When first my brave Johnie lad came to this town,
He had a blue bonnet that wanted the crown,
But now he has gotten a hat and a feather -
Hey, brave Johnie lad, cock up your beaver!

Cock up your beaver, and cock it fu' sprush!
We'll over the border and gie them a brush:
There's somebody there we'll teach better behavior -
Hey, brave Johnie lad, cock up your beaver!

Robert Burns, 1792

I will bookmark this. It’s as good an explanation as I’ve come across in 22 years.

That doesn’t work. As a nation we keep electing and reelecting idiots to congress and president. That is recycling and look where it has gotten us. I have begun a new campaign of littering and just abandoning broken things where they broke.

Oh, don’t be a spoilsport and bring logic and reason to FR.

I believe there may still be a great auroch grazing away in some English forest.
