I keep hoping this really IS a hoax. Certainly one of our best and most under rated actors.

He came of as conservative to me. I know for sure he was not a crazy arse liberal. Definitely one of the best! And one of my favorites. I am sorry he felt so much pain he went this route of injecting heroin

His death will be dissected to the max because he was so brilliant. Why, what, how and then who and what to blame.

In chruch this morning there was a prayer request for a mother with cancer.

I could care less about a self indulgent person who plays make believe for a living. Sorry.

You have nothing to apologize for there. He was a dope fiend. I feel sorry for his wife and kids.

I certainly don’t have anything against those in the acting field, as I’ve met many (albeit old-timers) who were really fine people. On the other hand, those so self-absorbed and self-indulgent to bring about their own filthy dope-addled demise... yeah, my well of sympathy runs pretty darned dry.

Ha!
Do you remember the “This is your brain...this is your brain on dope. Get the picture?” Commercial? The one with the frying pan and the eggs?

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Philip_Seymour_Hoffman#Personal_life

“Hoffman was not raised with a deep commitment to any denomination.[4][5][6] Hoffman’s parents divorced when he was nine years old.”

Another modern American “success” story.

Looked like 65 when he died...(credit to Jim Carroll)

See The Big Lebowski - one of best films ever done.

Wikipedia has taken note and has updated the date of death.

Good actor. Like many of the most creative, they seem to have tortured souls. Can’t seem to ever be happy...

I heard the same tales and the faggotery that went with it. I could not believe self destructive behavior that exists in the actor community.

I am going to put on my tin foil hat here and say that I think it is creepy that there was a death hoax just prior to his real death. Same thing happened with Paul Walker. There was a death hoax prior to him really dying.

Sorry, never heard of him. Only seen two of his films, Scent of a Woman and Twister, and don’t remember him.

This is truly a loss, Hoffman was a gifted actor. My best friend saw Hoffman years ago on Broadway in Eugene O’Neill’s “Long Day’s Journey into the Night” with Brian Dennehy and Vanessa Redgrave. She raved about Hoffman’s performance for months. May he RIP.

“Fame, fortune and addictions don’t mix well. “

Because of the fame, they make the news.

There are plenty of mind altering substance addicted accountants, teachers, postmen, etc.

Just not so much in the news.

Creative arts and substance use seem to go together. About 1 in 10 drinkers become alcoholics.

Ever stop to consider the Hollywood figures that do NOT have substance problems, reported in the news. A long list; the 9 in 10.
